I too saw 2012. It was OK but I didn't really like any of the characters and no-one seemed that concerned that

Apparently David Twohy has finished the script for the third Riddick movie and they are scouting locations in New Zealand.

The Chronicles of Riddick sucked, but in a bizzare way is still watchable. I'm hoping this returns to the form of Pitch Black, which whilst smaller in scope and ambition, was far more enjoyable. Unfortunatley as Riddick is now Jesus to a galactic empire of undead badasses, I seriously doubt it.

Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.

Oh god no. I was kind of hoping that the series would die so Pitch Black would stay watchable. *crosses fingers* It had better be a lot more 'space ships invade planet and are shot at by gorgeous CGI anti-err...space weapons' than "Necromongers." Cause, damn. I think that word ruined the movie.

Yeh, the Necromongers were a bit poo. Nothing was ever explained properly about their underverse thingy ( or whatever it was called) and how they came about. What exactly were they injected with ? Meh, half way through i'd stopped giving a shit and just wanted Vin to get all stabby stabby, which in fairness he did.

Pitch Black was more generic and pinched ideas from all over the shop, making it familiar and easy to connect with. Riddick was Twohy's attempt to create a new space opera and in that respect it failed. I mean when the Necros invaded that planet there was a perfect opportunity for a mambo space battle but,.... ppffffttt.... like a disappointing fart it was all build up and no pay off. The editing was bad and as a result a pretty decent cast ( Dame Judi Dench, Thandie Newton, Colm Feore sp?, Karl Urban) was left to chew on a script that appears to have been hacked to pieces.

I haven't really read much about the new flick but if it carries on from the last movie I can't really see where it's going to end up. I mean Riddick doesn't strike me as the emperor type, nor the kind of guy to sit aroung getting all whiney about his lost love. Maybe it will be a prequel "Riddick- The Early Years", based in some shithole prison a bit like the game, where we can get back to enjoying the simpler things in life like killing someone with a teacup.

That as they say was awesome, but Riddickulous Posted Image

Wait. They were injected with something? I though they were just some wacked out cult. Also, that guy who has a wife. the hell????

I actually thought the whole planetary invasion was handled pretty well. I mean, not every little podunk planet is going to be able to call up a hundred spaceships and whatnot to defend themselves in some epic battle of endor slug fest.

However, the whole 'there is one guy and M' fighting the... I can't say it. I'm using dragon speech right now, and trying to say that word without cracking up is utterly impossible.

Take two:

Yes, the whole one guy and M fighting against this huge army, who seem to be entirely unopposed, seemed really anti-opera to me. Even if they were somehow slapped down by some kind of black hole boomerang of doom or whatever, there should have at least been some mention of whatever government or whoever was kind of 'in charge'. Maybe they will have some sort of insane fall of ymir or battle of endor or whatever fight in the new movie.

I remember reading a broad overview of the plot once that the writer guy posted somewhere, but I forget what it had in specific. There was something about Riddick going into the underverse? with the army to do 'something'. It was pretty terrible. I hope he falls under the sway of the Chaos Gods and launches a Black Crusade against Terra.

Yeh but surely for cinematic purposes they should have picked a planet that had more than sharp sticks and rocks to defend themselves with ? I didn't really need to be reminded or have it reinforced that the N*"!?@*'s were an all conquering galactic empire who steal lollipops from kids.

I agree that M's role as a prescient guff of wind sidekick to Vin was a bit silly, probably doesn't get brought up at dinner at the Dench household too much.

So he's going into the underverse then ? Why do I have a horrible feeling that it will have something to do with going to reclaim the other half of his ladyfriend's soul, or some other "I want her back" bollocks....

Still probably go and see it though.

well, the planet did have guns and fighters and soldiers. They were just incompetent and had about thirty seconds of combined screen time for whatever reason. I just realized that I sound like I'm defending why things happened in this movie. I really don't mean to, I'm just argumentative at heart.

And what was with the whole halberd/staff thing? Future = lightning guns, shields and robots. Not staves.

Me too. Some things you have to see first hand to understand just how bad a good idea can become.

Riddick movies are such a bad idea. Pitch Black was brilliant because Riddick was a badass criminal with questionable morals when it came to helping the other characters. And it was a great monster movie. It didn't need anymore than that!

I totally disagree with Mezla, they aren't a bad idea. The Chronicles was poorly executed, but the universe has loads of potential. Pitch Black was a good film, if they go back to a story more like that, less complex then it could work. If anyone has read the David Gunn books, Riddick would be good as a Sven type character and it would fit in with his badass ways.

They would have been better without Vin Diesel, him and his growly tough guy voice. It's comical and ruins any attempt to take those movies seriously.

I was just thinking the exact same, thats the one role he was really good for... and i can't really imagine anyone else who'd do as well.
