yea i thought shaun of the dead was funny in a weird, british way. saw white noise yesterday, and other than a few shock horror parts it wasnt that effective as a scary movie, just kinda weird. rent it

Okay saw a few good ones in the past week:

Collateral - Great movie! Yet another solid movie by Michael Mann (Heat, Last of the Mohicans). Jamie Foxx was awesome in this movie and that was the first movie I've seen Jada Pinkett Smith in a movies besides the Matrix. Good to see she can actually act. Anyway I really liked the story line in this.

School of Rock - Not too bad. Nothing to write home about, though. Black carried the movie.

And... *drum roll*

Basic Instinct! I hadn't seen the entire movie before. Only certain... scenes... involving... interrogation... *ahem* Anyway I liked it. I'm a huge fan of those hard boiled detective movies and if the main character gets told by the chief to go on vacation or gets suspended for 48 hours then the movie has my seal of approval Posted Image

Speaking of Redford...I saw The Sting and Quiz Show again recently. Amazing Movies! Any other year Quiz Show would have won best picture and it would have been a solid choice in 1994. However, it was up against Forest Gump (winner), Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pulp Fiction, and The Shawshank Redemption...

Forgot to mention that I watched Van Helsing a few days ago. Went in expecting crap and wasn't disappointed. Way too many special effects. Also, is it just me or did Beckinsale not look as hot as she did in Underworld? It must be the leather...

i just found alexander to be bland when i saw it yesterday, decent acting, just a n overall bland movie. and the battle scenes were just terrible. confused, it was impossible to get a feel for the whole battle, and if your trying to show alexander as a military genius (which he was), then DONT make him look like a dumbass with no grasp of strategy in every battle.

also saw the chronicles of riddick which started out interesting, but soon devolved into a piece of ****

The Butterfly Effect was awful. Stupendous number of illogical bits (if he's destroying his brain every time he time travels, how comes he's AOK at the end. He should be dead no?

Not an original bone in it's body, basically Donnie Darko and The Time Machine being robbed egregiously. And the tiny little villain is ridiculous. I didn't buy the menace. However, it did have Ethan Suplee of Mallrats...

3/10

Anyway, movies I've seen recently.

Remains of the Day - Fantastically acted character drama, slow moving but intriguing. 9/10
Shadowlands - Amazing film, moving, well-acted, emotional, funny. I loved it. 10/10
Kids - Shockingly realistic and all the more revolting for it. A film people should see, but not enjoy. 7.5/10
The Naked Gun - Comedic brilliance. 9/10
Requiem for a Dream - Intense, harrowing stuff. A work of genius, not for the faint of heart. 9.5/10
Pi - Also by the director of Requiem. Very original, clever flick. 8/10

@rlfcl - Yeah, been waiting for that one for a looong time. I remember a few years back Michael Mann was slated to direct it. But now that Troy and Alexander have been released and are horrible (I of course am just going by the reviews so far) will there ever be another Gladiator-type movie?

I cringed when I heard on the radio today that the bloated "sword and sandals" epics have been done to death. Hollywood has barely scratched the surface. I'm worried since Troy didn't do well and if Alexander doesn't do well Hollywood is going to shy away from these epics.

Best western? Good god... I gotta go with the Leone spaghetti westerns. Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West. Godly bunch.

Don't forget Unforgiven and The Wild Bunch.

FLCL is so ****ing weird, I'm having trouble screwing up the courage to watch them... I'm going to view Last Exile in a bit though.

Saw Equilibrium and BubbaHotep the other day. Equilibrium is totally derivative of every dystopia ever written, but it's reasonably fun to watch. BubbaHotep has Bruce Campbell. Awww yeeeah...

Liked Triplets very quirky, subtle humour. It was a bit dull though.

I saw Spiderman 2 and thought it was amazing. So much better than the first one mainly due to Doc Ock being a helluva lot better than the Green Goblin.

I watched Seven for the first time in aaages the other night. It's a good film and no mistake. Then i saw Ocean's Eleven last night. I thought it was pretty average, if not cack, certainly nothing special. But then George Clooney SERIOUSLY annoys the sh1t out of me with everything he does so it had to be something special to impress me.
