So does Phoenix give a good performance, then? I hate biopics where the "performances" are nothing more than impersionations (anyone see Ali?)...

@ Sonnyboy - "Ali"...two hours of my life I'll never get back. Seriously, what was the point of that whole 10-minute long bit of him jogging and those kids chanting "Ali Bumaye" over and over again?

Anyway, back to "Walk the Line." Yeah, Phoenix does give a good performance. Not great (I think the Oscar buzz for the film is a bit much - OTOH, this year's movies have generally sucked so maybe it does deserve an Oscar by comparison) but it's good and like I said, he avoids trying to do an impersonation. Again, though, if you don't like Johnny Cash's music, I wouldn't go or you'll be bored...
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

No, I'm a huge fan, so I've been looking forward to the movie. Biopics = Oscarbait, though.

As for Ali, Will Smith's "performance" was the least of that film's problems. It was hard to tell if he was acting or reenacting, because 95% of the film seemed to be just reenactments of Ali footage we've already seen a million times.

You mean there's people out there who still make fight scenes without CG and/or wires? Wow. Note to self: Watch Ong Bak.

I have only heard good things about Ong Bak. I have been meaning to watch it for a long time.

I saw Dream Catcher last night. Quite silly horror, but good fun, I thought.

Went to see Doom the other day... what can I say that it’s mildly entertaining, amusing for wrong reasons as terrible dialog and the acting well that’s just none existent. Being really honest though it is rubbish, I would not recommend going to see this as £7.00 is not worth it and too be honest just wait till it comes out on video or even TV.

Best line –
The Rock picks up the BFG, stares at in awe…
“Big F*^cking Gun!!”
“Ahh SH*!!!”

Oscar winning moment…NOT!!

As mentioned in the worst movie of the year thread, the best part of Doom was their use of the 24th chromosome.. I chuckled every time they talked about how it created superpowers and was infectious :)

Well, you should not have expected anything from a DOOM movie! I haven't seen it yet, but I want to. I like the Rock as an action star. You have to take each movie as what it is. And Karl Urban's in DOOM, right? Eomer! And the mullet guy from The Chronicles of Riddick!

Still.. the 24 chromosome thingy is pretty hilarious.

I enjoy bad movies, and this movie didn't pretend to be great as movies such as Alexander and King Arthur did, still, it was truly bad^^

I heard that there were some bits in it that were pretty true to the game and even one section in the first person perspective?

Are those no good as well? Or too few?

I think the Rock is actually hilarious in doom for all the right reasons. He doesn' take himself seriously at all and the film is the same.

There is one part in the film when he's talking down to some no-mark and he starts twitching his face like he used to do in his wrestling days and a stupid silence lasts for a good 10 secs or so.

The first person perspective bit was quite cool actually, a lot like the game and even the chainsaw makes an appearance!

I was hoping for Rock Bottom or even the People's Elbow in his fight scene with Karl Urban but alas no it wasn't to be. Still for an entertaining albeit terribly acted and scripted movie then doom is sunday evening fare.

If ya smell what the Rock is cooking... The most electrifying man in sport's entertainment. FACT

Although Rosamund Pike is fit as, and she appears to be smuggling a couple of peanuts for most of the film

Saw Harry Potter last night. I must say those films do get better each time. I agree with everyone who say that Voldemort and Mad Eyed Moody were the best. I think the problem with the film is that they have so much to keep in, but they have to keep the time down. Therefore, the scenes were very short and snappy, and too much was missing. If they had done one where they had both films within a couple of months of each other they could have made it loads better.
Dumbledore sucks. He isn't anything like the dumbledore of the books, and he just gets annoying.

This was easily the worst of the 4 films made so far, terrible doesn't even do it justice. The scenes were anything but short and snappy, in fact there was so much garbage in there i felt like joining he who shall not be named and killing off that irritating twat who plays Harry.

I agree Dumbledore was so bad it made me want to hurt myself. Having caught Chamber of Secrets briefly on Saturday Richard Harris was much better. What the hell was his bloody accent about?

Flight Plan was a remake of the lady vanishes only without Cybil Shepherd and Angela Lansbury, oh and any semblance of a good storyline and interesting characters.

This year has been pretty bad for films I reckon and the religious godfest that is Narnia will only disappoint too...

Ah, King Arthur. I didn't mind that movie, actually. What I hated about it was the promotion "This is the TRUE story!" Because that's just stupid. Really really really ignorant. Thanks again, Bruckheimer.

And the final battle stuff didn't make any sense. But if you take it as a B-action movie, it's not too bad. It's just a shame that they tried so hard to make you think it was better than it was.

King Arthur was on my "worst of 2004" list last year, and it deserved it so very very much.
Just to list up the dumbest parts of it:
1) The wall was built because the Romans were unable to expand further into scotland. Explain then, the logic of a Roman mansion inhabited by high ranking 'nobles', located three days north of the wall!!
2) The wall had like ten romans guarding it all in all. Why then did the Germans or whatever they were attack at that precise point? And if they wanted to invade England, why didn't they just land south of the wall in the first place?
3) They spent the first half of the movie introducing the knights, and then they consequently ignored them for the rest of the movie.
4) You've got to admitt the frozen lake scene was pretty dumb.

@sonnyboy - The most anoying part of the movie was just that it tried so hard to be epic it was sad. Those movies are the worst there is in my opinion. If a movie is bad but makes no pretence of being great - like doom - then it's usualy just amusing. I love commando for instance :)

As to Doom, I had great fun watching it, but that does not change the fact it was dumb :p
And also, in the actuall game, the monsters came from hell. This was excluded from the movie because it could make the right wing christian fundamentalists of the US feel sad...

@Fool - the first person part was good, but there could have been more of them.. And the Rock never actually used the BFG for anything worthwhile!!!

Just Friends, was a pretty funny movie. Facial expressions were kickin'.
King Kong is going to be interesting.

King Arthur really thought that they had made the real King Arthur with the film they had found out about some russian horse men that had come to england under the romans and these must be king arthurs knights. Thne they forgot about history. Saxons with crossbows and the woads (what was with that any way? Call them celts or picts not woads!). The picts were the ones who historically had crossbows and the longbows were held by the saxons.

And the landing in scotland and marching east to reach the mountains. The only way to march east from the sea in scotland and reach mountains is to have landed on the west coast of scotland this means they would have had to cross the north sea right round scotland to reach there. Why would they not have done that when they could cross the channel. Come on that was just useless geography and history combined to make a rediculous historical film, but it was a good laugh in the end especially as it made no sense.

Went to go and see Keeping Mum yesterday. Very amusing in parts, if a little predictable. Good clean fun:)
