I had the thought that Justin Lin would probably do an amazing DCU film. He might be the Space Jam 2 director now though.

I have weird opinions about Superman and most of the super heroes though. I view Superman as a jerk for sitting on the Krypton tech that could cure thousands of illnesses, build strong disaster proof housing and reshape the world to be physically safer, potentially reduce energy dependence on dictatorships/bad regimes, and possibly allow interstellar exploration.

And the guy sits on it all to pretend to be a nothing burger journalist. He's doing something that deserves worse criticism than the common Batman/Bruce Wayne critique.

The DC line of comics would be pretty boring if Supes just rolled out his Supertech, solved all the world's problems, and then kicked back with a Superbeer, no?

And as a burger journalist, Superman would know the best place to eat while he drinks that Superbeer

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

He'd certainly have enough spare time to fire up the Supergrill and make his own Superburgers, no?

...unless Kryptonian BBQ was one of things that destroyed Krypton.... i wonder if that's a subplot on the new tv show...

Pssht, heat vision-ing a SuperBurger probably only takes a couple minutes, tops.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

But heat vision doesn't give it that all important Supercharcoal flavor.

Does this do anything for you guys? Hey, it has Neil Young in it and he's Canadian. So that should put some lead in your pencil. Maybe a little?

Also, let's not forget that Krypton's Supertech, in large part led to its own downfall, not just socially but structurally/geographically after the wars that spawned from the genetics/med tech.

So perhaps Superman is just being circumspect...he could give out Kryptonian tech, but it could very easily lead to the downfall of earth as well.

Ah, but the rolling out of such tech so quickly without turning the entire planet into a dictatorship akin to Darkseid's is a tension that can be. CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series deals well with the slow diffuse of advanced tech into a world not ready for it.

The suspicion, envy, and mania of Luthor would be ten times worse if Superman took over Star Labs and used that to build something like Stark Industries or a benevolent LexCorps.

Superman would basically be drawn into geopolitical stuff constantly to prevent exploitation and enslavement. He would also have to figure out how to fight the rising crop of new villains with advanced tech similar to his own.

And billions would be saved from death, illness, and misery. That's the crux of all this - by not doing this, Superman is letting billions suffer needlessly.

If the character mainly cares about saving people, then he should save the shit out of billions.

Otherwise, just go man/pterosaur hybrid and embrace the weirdness. Don't give me fuzzy "save everybody" ethos that isn't lived up to.

I mean, this is an extreme view of a cape and tights superhero. Shrug.

I love when discussions reveal the moebius strip nature of this simulacrum we call "life".

Finally saw Thor: Ragnarok. Roared with laughter most of the way through it, great film. Top spots for me go to Taiki Waititi but I knew I'd love him anyway and the Valkyrie girl she was ace. Jeff Goldblum also outstanding.

Heck, everyone was ace. Want to watch Wilderpeople again.

Roxanne Roxanne -- (on Netflix) music biopic of Roxanne Shanté that avoids a ton of music biopic cliches. I really liked it. The lead (Chanté Adams) is new to me (and this might be her debut?) but she's pretty great. It doesn't span decades, it doesn't go dot-to-dot through all her songs, and it focuses largely on life as lived over the course of a few years. I'm not saying it's a perfect movie or anything, but I found it extremely refreshing for a biopic. Also it has Mahershala Ali and Nia Long in it and they both kill it, especially Nia.

They've really been saturating various programming with these little snippets. They really must want people to see this movie. Ya think?

Said there was supposed to be a teenage Groot in this. I didn't see him. Do you guys?

Watched pacific rim 2 earlier. Surprisingly enjoyable.

I remember not liking the first one much. The premise was stupid (still is) and I thought the film took it self too seriously.

This second film is more young adult and really feels like a gundam anime for a western audience.

The story was filled with cliches and dumb tropes but the plot was also pretty tight. Not a lot of fluff and, unlike the first film, the cast were likeable enough.

A thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi action film.

Have you guys ever been out with your mates on a Friday night, getting totally shit faced? I mean totally tying one on and then stumbling home, hitting the fridge and grabbing a to go box of last night's Chinese Lo mein and scarfing that down to try and soak up any alcohol left your stomach and then crashing on the couch and passing out with the television on one of the shittier premium channels(TMC or Cinemax) only to then wake up a few ours later at like 2 or 3 am in the morning only to discover possibly the shittiest movie you've ever seen? Like so shitty you have to watch it in your half still drunk / half brain rousing from sleeping state. Well I have.

And behold that movie is: Fight Valley. It is so baaaaaaaaaad. It's filled with former and current UFC women's MMA fighters - Meisha Tate, Holly Holm, Cris "Cyborg". Holy shit the acting is bad. And the plot is stupid. I still watched the rest of it in the state of mind I was in though.
