Re-watched two old comedies:

40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN...which still completely holds up and makes me howl.

ROAD TRIP...which doesn't hold up much at all. The jokes are a lot of "that time and that place", Stifler is just playing Stifler, DJ Qualls never got out of the rut he built himself with that role, and Breckin Meyer being on the soundtrack with his weird noughties band...just reminds you that Breckin Meyer can't sing or craft lyrics.

Oh, and I threw on THE PHANTOM MENACE bluray last night, and I keep noticing just how much better it CAN be if Lucas had just made the Gungan's and Nemoidian's speak in a crafted language with subtitles. Honestly, that would make scenes with cringe-dialogue SOOOOO much better. Drop a half hour out of the Podrace as well, and you've got a tight, entertaining Star Wars movie. Perhaps my viewing experience is now tempered by the excellence in THE CLONE WARS and REBELS....but the prequels (which I NEVER hated) are improved just by knowing the things I know about certain characters and trajectories....and by the little brain-canon fixes that they need made to them.

OLD SCHOOL and virtually anything Will Farrel did in the 90s/00s remain timeliness classics.

I never hated TPM, thinly veiled racist sterotypes aside.

I like ATOC for the opening chase sequence, and from about the midway point to the end it's pretty good...and I LOVE REVENGE...it's my fave of the three.

Come at me bro!

:p

Oh please... that chase sequence incorporates every utterly overused chase trope from the last three decades... the lost weapon, the jump from vehicle to vehicle... for fucks sake someone killed the badguy just as he was about to explain the whole thing. And the fx... THE FIFTH ELEMENT did it better like two decades before. I suppose you also enjoyed Obiwan fighting Daddy Fett for thirty minutes? :(

Revenge... you're lying. I know you're lying. Even if you're not lying, on some inner level you're lying to yourself and then lying.

I'm not. I'm really not. I've seen it umpteen times, and love it every time.

Yes! Let the hate flow through you!

I like Padme dress up and lightsaber fights, so I enjoy both as well.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I saw Fate of the Furious. This franchise is the best.

Just finished Fantastic Beast for 1st time. That movie was really fun. Better then any of thePotter ones! I loved the wizard/G men hybrid. Why is Depp in this? Is this just a typical expanded cameo or will is a 2nd gonna happen? I hope so after watching that. I think that was Booger from Revenge of the Nerds.

They have 5 films planned. And Depp's Grindelvald character is the big bad for the whole series.

And the cast Jude Law as young Dumbledore the other day (since his story intertwined with Grindy)

Isn't Grindelwald one of the founders of Hogwartz? Or am I think about the Bank in Diagon Alley?

No. Slytherin, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Griffindor.

Grindewald was who Dumbledore fell in love with, had the Deathstick/Eldar Wand, Magic-Hitler, and fought with Dumbledore and his brother which resulted in his sister's death.

I think I am going to see if my movie hoarding buddy has bought a copy of Fantastic Beasts yet. I assume it's out on DVD?

It is. Or at least, it should be, considering it's been plastered all over the online stores I use plus it's available for digital purchase on YouTube/Xbox Live/etc.

The latest offering from DC Animation is out for rental, TEEN TITANS: THE JUDAS CONTRACT....now maybe it's because I'm a huge TT fan (maybe even moreso than the Justice League)...but this is one of their most excellent films to date! I mean, it helps that this is literally one of (if not THE) most seminal TEEN TITANS stories they've adapted...but the tone and style if perfect, the dialogue is excellent. Just all around a fantastic watch. If you like the DC Animated output (and most people do) this won't lead you astray.

Important questions:
1) how do they dodge around Deathstroke making the sex with a fifteen year old Terra? and,
2) does Jericho have the 'fro?

They don't dodge it. They pretty much just let it be what it was...although they never get into Terra's actual age specifically...so I think the intent is to pass it off as "not so different in their ages if we don't mention it".

I thought Leto's joker was great. It was just ruined by the writing. They had him saying stuff and doing stuff that lacked what ever secret sauce that makes Joker scary. He came off more like the "just another gangster leader in Gotham" persona that some of the cartoons implement, instead of the larger than life psycho we saw in Nolan's Batman.

Ironically, I think the love story between Joker and Quinn in the film, was actually the best part. Those two would go through fire and hell to be with each other.
