Finally got a chance to see DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and really, really enjoyed it. As someone who really loved RISE...this movie takes the best bits of that first one and amps them up to twelve. Matt Reeves proves that CLOVERFIELD wasn't some fluke success...as his directing chops are WELL suited to this series. Andy Serkis deserves every damned award out there for his mocap performance. Nothing short of stunning. The special effects in this are a masterpiece. the apes look so real you forget they are CGI...and thats the mark of top shelf graphics. Just an all around intense and entertaining flick.

It reads that it takes place after Ridleys forthcoming PROMETHEUS 2, not ALIEN 2.

Look at QuickTidal ducking the review of Jupiter Ascending.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Saw Jupiter Ascending. Loved it! Few minor issues about bits of the character development/plot but nothing that ruined it for me. It was a big beautiful film that had superb action sequences and wonderfully designed worlds/spaceships/weapons etc.

Nah, I saw that, just can't comment til I've seen it. I heard it's a mix of The Fifith Element and Zardoz....and I love both of those films...goofy as they both are. So we'll see.

I wonder how another Alien movie will work as Sigourney Weaver looks scarier than the xenomorphs these days.
No Touchy.

Saw KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE tonight. Lots of fun, Matthew Vaughn firing on all cylinders, basically a modern day classic British 1960's spy flick that embraces the goofiness and knows the world it's playing in. Great stuff!

No you didn't read that right.

It's post Prometheus 2.

Watched Jupiter Ascending today. What a magnificently ridiculous film. It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, and in a lot of respects it's a bit shit, but (despite the fucking 3D being even more distracting than usual, I think because the backgrounds were so busy) I enjoyed it.

Channing Tatum's character and his gravity boots are fucking cool.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Kid-free weekend so will be KINGSMAN tonight, then JUPITER ASCENDING tomorrow!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Saw it in 2D so I dunno about that but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

That's a great and concise review.

Magnificently ridiculous is definitely that movie.

Superbly ridiculous is the Fifth Element?

KINGSMAN recalled the first KICK-ASS movie for me. Not a terribly original concept, but executed with such batshit panache you have to like it. I give it 8 grateful Scandinavian princesses out of 10.

Mmmmmm, Scandinavian Princess. She was yum.

Also, credits track by Iggy Azalea and Ellie Goulding (Heavy Crown) is pretty awesome.

I have learned of the existence of a movie called, I believe, 'Alientampon', by some German film company. I had the misfortune of watching the trailer. For something that dumb it looks better made than fucking Sharknado.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I believe first-finders rights say that you must now watch it in full and report back.

Finally saw The Wind Rises, and fortunately it's another opportunity to use my patented Malazan board hashtag #WTHQT. It's not the best Ghibli by any means, as it's in some ways a fairly conventional biopic (however fictionalized), but it does the smart thing in focusing on a few periods instead of doing a sweeping birth-to-death story. Also it's unrelentingly romantic, and visually as gorgeous as anything Miyazaki has done.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
