It tries to be a few things, and in reaching in various directions, it fails on all fronts.
A few decent performances I guess. But overall, I want my time and money back

Just saw ARRIVAL. Was much better than i thought it would be. Really enjoyed it, despite some minor quibbles. I like that it had the contact scenes be a process too rather than "I'll just connect my mac to the alien ship and upload something". Loved the sound design too. Very effective.

It's that brutal that you would think it was scripted... what their poor mother must have gone through, not worth thinking about.

It's why the after clips were so special.

It was similar to Hacksaw Ridge for me...

I've never wanted to see the real life after clips so much as I have with both Lion and Hacksaw Ridge.

After I watched both films I instantly went online to research the stories.

Yeah, I've got HIDDEN FIGURES on my list and I hear nothing but good things about it. And ARRIVAL was amazing.

LA LA LAND is the one film I'm worried about watching as there is so much hype, I feel like I'll be very let down.

The only people that seem to talk well about La La Land are critics. I know a fair few people who have seen it and all have said it was crap.

Very good film, I know fuck about Jazz beyond that mostly it makes little musical sense to me. I thought Simmons was superb as the borderline maniacal teacher and Miles teller puts in a good performance too

Finally saw Straight Outta Compton. Very well done. Ice Cube's son looks so much like his dad. Movie does a good job of touching on most of what was happening around NWA and each member as they left to start solo careers during that time. Nothing revelatory about what the movie portrayed, but it was a lot of fun nevertheless. I give it 4 F the Police out of 5.
