I watched Kubo and the Two Strings today.
It was incredibly well made. The voice acting, animation, score, and plot were great. The only complaint I had was that there was not enough buildup before the story got going, and I think that's simply me liking the slice of life beginning too much.
I was so sad when the movie ended.

This movie is 100% worth watching. Gorgeous, emotionally moving, soulful, and superbly handled.
The voice acting is wonderful and I think it's going to win best animated film, even with Inside Out being strong in its own right. Stellar movie.
My one complaint is that the conclusion of the antagonist's arc is a bit too twee. That's it. Nothing else.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

The Nice Guys: the plot ain't exactly Chinatown, but it's decent enough and the movie is very funny very often.

Watched creed last night
It was ok, better in some respects than the Rockys, but rocky 1&2 still trump it for me.

Watched Maleficent there tonight.
I knew nothing about it going in beyond knowing the character name from the old disney cartoon.
pleasantly surprised. Jolie turned in a magnificent performance (I await worrys take on this word play)

We just watched this too.. someone at work recommended it. My daughter has watched Sleeping Beauty long enough to see all the crossover stuff - she did point out that in Maleficent Aurora was only asleep for what seemed like a few hours though!
Good film, unexpectedly so.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I think it's pretty good wordplay, all in all.
I went and saw Don't Breathe. Pretty tight little thriller, nice and tense throughout.

So as not to remind people that BW2 exists, I imagine.

Agreed. And the new one apparently investigates what happened to the original trio.
The filmmakers originally wanted to do a historical prequel film as a 3rd one that showed all the stuff that happened with the witch in the past, her initial incarnation, the possession of the 1940's serial killer guy ect. That never materialized...but I recall thinking it would have been a good idea....and certainly better than the nonsense that the studio spewed out for BW2.
I'm not on board with a new film that seems to follow a lot of the same beats as the first...but it COULD be decent if they tie it into the first well.
But the first film succeeded in a bigger way as a result of one of (if not THE) first successful viral marketing movie campaigns. I saw it at a sneak screening two weeks before it came out and none of us had any idea if it was real or fake. That made it that much scarier to us.

Blair witch was awesome. It was truly groundbreaking and has been ripped offs many times that it seems a parody of itself.
The second wasn't at all on the same level, but for a standard horror movie it wasn't bad. It looked worse compared to the greatness of the first.
That being said, I don't know that we need another. The found footage genre is mostly dead to me, and it needs to be found footage. The prequel idea sounds better honestly.

The original Blair Witch was groundbreaking in some respects (and not just how much money it made versus how much it cost to make). I remember it was marketed as actual found footage. That paired with the nascent world wide web and how that could be exploited. It might very well be one of the first "viral marketing" campaigns.
More importantly for me though, the movie touched on some of my childhood experiences. Specifically, riding bikes with my brother and friends back into some deep woods and told prior that a witch lived back there. So the movie had my attention right out of the gate based on that experience (don't we all have a "ghost story" from our childhood that we were told was real?)
The movie is good for one view though. The shaky camera and the annoying Heather Donahue acting makes additional viewing detract from the initial "a witch lives out in these woods" vibe and instead magnifies how mediocre the movie really.
I refuse to comment on how horrible the sequel was. It sucked, that's all that needs to be said.
[EDIT] Oh, I guess I should comment on what I feel about he upcoming Blair Witch. Well, I don't really care, and probably will only watch when I'm bored flipping through channels when it is released to the SyFy network or some similar channel. And then will probably only watch bits, unless it captures my attention.

Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish
Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Second huntsman film.
Charlize Theron plays a cold hearted maniacal bitch perfectly.
Emily Blunt did a solid enough job too.
I found Hemsworth and his lady's accents irritating. Outside of that entertaining enough, passed two hours on the ferry

Just Watched Bats v Supes. It's not that bad really. First 90mins with them sniffing about each other was quite good. Final 30mins were pretty meh. Loved how Lexcorp was like the Facebook or Google offices, it made me giggle.
Now Aliens is on TV. I may have 3 different versions on dvd but I'll still watch it on TV.
