Sounds like Alfonso Cuaron is in "deep talks" to direct at least one of the new HARRY POTTEr spinoff trilogy FANTASTIC BEASTS & WHERE TO FIND THEM...which would be an ideal choice! Considering that Cuaron made my second fave direction of the whole HP series (I prefer David Yates Films5-8 over Cuaron's), this is great news!

Thor: The Dark World - pretty fucking awesome! Great ending sequence! I loved it!

Star Trek Into Darkness - Sherlock Holmes being all devious and badass was fun. Kirk's main skill seems to be getting his ass kicked by people repeatedly. Great visuals overall, but ENOUGH WITH THE FUCKING LENS FLARES ALREADY, JJ!

Abrams apologized for the Lens Flare after ST: INTO DARKNESS was released, saying he realized it needed toning down. IIRC SUPER 8 being an homage to 70's flicks he had toned it right down...so I hope that same reverence for the screen is what he brings to Ep VII.

The person who REALLY should be reigned in on that front now is Len Wiseman. The TOTAL RECALL reboot is so full of lens flare that you can hardly see what the fuck is going on. This is not an exaggeration.

I like lens flare when it is used well (see the DOCTOR WHO Xmas special with Amy and Rory called A CHRISTMAS CAROL)...it uses a minimal amount of it to great effect.

The fifth one is still my favourite, but I love both of them (I also re-watched 6 a week or so ago). I love the balance both find between being dedicated to the family of characters and the care with which it crafts its mythos in line with previous ones, and the utter, utter preposterousness of everything else about them.

Don't bother, 4 is awful. The worst of the series (2 is also bad, but its sense of humour saves it from total terribleness, and 3 is pulled up by the bootstraps by the awesome driving scenes. Plus it's got Sonny Chiba).

4's not TOO bad, it's just not on par with 5 or 6. they have REALLY hit their stride with the format in 5 & 6. 4 has got its moments though.

3 has a lead who didn't know what he was doing (here's hoping he's got it down better for 7), but the rest of it is cream, especially the driving seuqences.

2 is pretty rough, but introduces Roman...which is a great thing.

But yeah, this series is really Universal's big franchise and I hope they are able to keep it as good as the last two have been. As far as 7 goes, it's going to make absolute shitbuckets of money rain down from the sky on Universal...if only due to it being Paul Walker's final bow in the franchise. Even non-fans will see it in theatre. I sense a CASINO ROYALE box office madhouse surprise in FF7 to be honest.
