There are some cool action movies coming out of Korea. Check out Oldboy, Attack the Gas Station, and My Wife is a Gangster if you can find them.

6ixtynin9 is a decent low budget black comedy from Thailand.

Constantine is OK. It has a cool look. I think Prophecy was better but I can't remember.

Twilight Samurai is good if you like Samurai dramas. The action is sparse.

Kung Fu Hustle, Stephen Chow's new movie, looks amazing. I can't find a place to rent it (it's a region 3 dvd), and it's not released in US theaters yet.

Mind Game is supposed to be a very trippy anime movie that combines live action and animation. And if you like anime the best active series are probably Samurai Champloo (from the director of Cowboy Bebop) and Beck (it's about a Japanese rock band.)

Also, Elfen Lied just finished and if you like ultraviolence, cool animation with bright colors, and fantasy/science fiction story lines it looks like a must see.

I Heart Huckabees is very funny if you like out there comedies like Being John Malkovich and Rushmore...

I haven't seen a flick in theaters in ages. Anything good coming out this weekend? I think I might go see "SkyCaptain" some time.

"Anyway, the movie Brother is really good. It's about a Japanese gangster (Takeshi Kitano: the teacher in Battle Royale) who comes to the US. Rent it!"

Sounds promising. I thought he was great in Battle Royale. BTW, i saw BR2 up for rent, but i am sceptical since its not based on a book. Anyone seen it?

@Cyandor: I saw a few episodes of Sol Bianca, Twelve Kingdoms, and Texhnolyze.

Twelve Kingdoms sucks: It's everything I hate about anime which probably means that tons of people will like it i.e. childish melodrama, lackluster characters, boring dialogue, excessive fantasy elements because nothing else of interest is going on...

Texhnolyze is too slow for me, but the dark, gritty, realism and the visceral imagery were very cool. It starts to make sense after episode 3, but there isn't enough going on for me to deal with the deliberate pace.

I saw a few episodes of Ghost in the Shell SAC, and I didn't think it was hard to follow at all. If anything it was too simplistic and too vanilla. Top notch animation though.

Sol Bianca has awesome animation, except the backgrounds are sometimes too static...Slightly cheesy and definately mindless but the animation is really good and there is constant action. Worth a rent but not something to own...

I wouldn't wait more than 10 minutes for any live action comic movie. They don't translate well. Take Spawn for example. HORRIBLE MOVIE. The animated series, on the other hand, is incredible.

The best live action comic movies are the Crow and the Blade movies. I can take or leave the rest except for maybe the first Superman.

Saw Resident Evil: Apocalypse. What a pile of unmitigated crap. It wasnt a horror movie, it didnt have the feel of the game, it wasnt even very good when it comes to action.

It was just bad.

Also saw Shark Tale. Expected something like shrek. The fact that will smith was in it, shoulda clued me in that it wouldnt be half as good... which it wasnt. The shark mafia was great until it started getting all soft (de niro, jack black and scorcese Posted Image). The rest was very forgettable.

The third Matrix was horrible. The second one was alright and the first was the best. Posted Image

As for whoever told you Blade 2 sucked... they don't know what they are talking about. I haven't met one person who didn't like the movie. In fact, I liked it better than the first one and I really liked the first one. Hopefully the third one isn't a letdown. To be honest I'm not very hyped up about it. Ryan Reynolds is in it... oooooooooooookay.

Bit of a movie binge lately, soooooo,,,,

De-Lovely: While the format of the movie left me bored at times, the set/costume work was brilliant, and the complex relationship between Cole and Linda really does come thru.

Bourne Supremacy: If you're one of the twelve or so people still alive who, like me, read the three original Bourne books, it's a little jarring to realize about seven minutes in that the book has been chucked utterly, but that said, fun movie. Tight plot. Great actions scenes. Sometimes run a little long, but enough eye candy to keep my attention.

Harry Potter 3: Everyone who shouted 'Expecto Patronam' along with Harry should be subject to lobotomy. Good fun, but other than the three kids, supporting cast got really cut short.

Spidey 2: Yes, it was better than 1. Less cheezy and more impact than Aunt May's umbrella to the back of the head.

Chronicles of Riddick: I didn't see, because it was out of the theaters in like 2 weeks. Did anyone see this? Was it really that bad?
