Saw Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. It was OK, just OK.

Saw The Town. It's not Heat, but it lives up to the inevitable (and indeed invited- there's no way that film wasn't a touchstone on set) comparisons quite well. Good tension in both the action and the drama and Rebecca Hall gives the film real heart (Ben Affleck's just Ben Affleck... but he holds his own in a film full of good turns. Though his future is clearly as a director).

watched notting hill, don't shoot me I was pissed and had been for a romantic meal with my girl, we got home and threw it on, it reminded me why I like Rhys Ifans so much, his character is so good in this film and it has a good vision for us mortal men to land the "megan fox" or "Jessica Alba" of our world. Anyway had much fun, although I didn't think I would watch it a second time, I am glad I did. 5 spoons of crunchy cheesecake out of 7

Netflixed "The Reader". A wonderfully acted but ultimately stupid story. Seriously, who would take the rap for mass murder just because they were ashamed of being illiterate? I give it 4 out of 10 torrid love scenes.

Just watched Pans Labyrinth. Holy crap that film is hardcore. I thought that it was supposed to be semi-kid friendly. It is not. I wasn't really paying attention to the film, then suddenly I look up as the evil captain guy just smashed some random peasants face to mush. Holy crap. And that child eating eyes on the hands monster, fuck every thing about that, I am going to have nightmares about that tonight.

I'm still not sure whether or not the fairy tale stuff actually happened or if it was all just in the girls head.

Need to watch that film again some day.

If you liked Pan's Labyrinth Apt, you might want to check out some of his earlier movies. The Devil's Backbone is similar in that it is set during the same time period as PL and also uses the fears of a child's fertile imagination.

Watched two films this weekend.

Aliens vs Monsters (or is that Monsters vs Aliens?) Good fun. The manuscript was pathetic but it had a lot of fun scenes and dialogue. Worth a watch.

And then, while I was watching the commercials I saw that the next movie was some drama called "The Soloist". Yawn I thought. Then I saw the commercial for it, typical story about some poor down on his luck genious that gets discovered by some well meaning character, who tries to help him back on his feet, yaddida. But it was starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Fox which I found bizarre because that sort of indicated that this was a big film, and yet I've never heard of it before.

Well, I can honestly say that I was blown away by the film. It was indeed your typical story of the down on the luck genius and the do-gooder, but the characters were fucking spot on, and the subject, the thousands of homeless druggies and mentally ill on the streets of America, was a tragic and thought provoking subject.

I honestly think this is probably the best film I've ever watched with Robert Downey Jr. That goes for Jamie Fox too for that matter (never seen Ray). Robert Downey Jr. has a tendency to be very over the top but it almost seemed like they underplayed the characters, there was non of the typical hollywood craziness in there. Just the real life craziness.

And yet when I look it up on IMDB I see that it's only gotten nominations from two obscure movie award shows and the film bombed at the box office. What the hell?!

Go watch this film people. It's a small, not that impressive movie production dealing with a great subject and it's based on a real story.

Clash of the Titans was what I expected, an easy watch, lots of action and some good scenes. I expected it to be shizer though, I expected it to be so bad with such bad acting it would make me cringe, my girlfriend got up halfway through and went to make tea, I just stuck with it, if I expected it to be so bad and having seen the original many moons ago I think it did deserve around 50%, 1) in comparison to original and 2) it met my expectations.

I'm afraid i must concur with Macros here, and express my dismay at your rating of Clash. I went in with extremely low expectations and found it didn't even meet them. For a movie that had money, and a respectable cast, it in no way made me think "Epic". The old version might be cheesy as hell, and have some special effects which seem laughable nowadays, but it at least made you think that the hero was on an epic quest.

I'd only go so far as 4 clockwork owls out of 10 (and one had a broken wing!)

35%, we are talking 15% here. I agree with you, I would never have went the cinema to watch it as I knew it would be that bad. I hereby change my rating and compare it with another of its genre..

there isn't a film that would get 8 out of 10 in this type of genre, maybe watchmen but that is a comic book film rather than a high fantasy type of film.

inkheart 6/10 as I have watched it twice and I like the idea
