Hot Tub Time Machine is okay for a few laughs, Zanth. Not a ton, but it's worth renting a DVD.

Barely.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It is what it is. It's there for entertainment purposes only, with the plot seemingly secondary to set-piece comedy sketches. That being said, those set-piece comedy scenes delivered for me, but it's attempt to try to build an overall plot around them, well. Its just not all that good. Funny, still though, especially towards the end.

I'd give it a 5 out of 10. Not awful, but not good.

Dude, if you thought Grown Ups was awesome, chances are you'll love Hot Tub Time Machine. There's lots of laughs to be had. I'd rate it a bit higher than HD. Maybe a 7.5/10. It's doesn't take itself seriously at all, and it doesn't expect its audience to either. It's worth a watch.

Hot Tub Time Machine is your average, run of the mill, American comedy. If you like that sort of stuff, you'll probably like this one as well. If you have taste, you'll hate it.

I have taste. I'm just not a slave to the popular opinion.

Zanth have you seen the Sorcerors Apprentice yet? It's not getting that great reviews, but I still want to see it for the action and flash. I love Nicholas Cage and Alfred Molina, I can't wait to see what craziness they get up to with their characters.

Neither am I. That's why I gave Hot Tub Time Machine a glowing review.

I just finally saw the A Team movie. Oh my god! Died and gone to heaven. It is brilliant, balls to the wall action. Totally ridiculous, I can't even remember the plot. Hannibal's line "Overkill is underrated" sums the whole thing up perfectly. I missed Dirk Bennedict and Dwight Schultz's cameo's though, booooooo. With this, Predators and The Expendables coming out, it's the best movie summer in ages :p

There's actually a pretty decent comedy out on DVD called Mystery Team about these three guys who used to be the town's kid detectives (a la Encyclopedia Brown) and have never grown out of it. It's definitely a gimmick and seems a little thin at first, but a lot of good laughs are drawn out of it as they take on an actual murder mystery to prove they're still relevant.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Just watched Valhalla Rising which is a very strange, brutal little film. Mads Mikkelsen's character is on screen for the vast majority of the film's running time and says absolutely nothing. He does rather graphically kill several people though...

It was quite obviously made on a shoestring budget but manages to make a virtue of that by being very minimalist and bleak and using the desolate Scottish landscape to full advantage. It was a bit slow at times but this, for me, didn't cause it to drag as it only added to the gloomy and doom-laden atmosphere. To some extent it is rather enamoured of its own portentiousness and it does come across as a bit self important and self indulgent at times. But I still felt that it is definitely a film that is worth seeing and very far from the ordinary. Though not, I'd imagine, to everyone's taste.

Once again I find myself having critical things to say about a film I do like. I guess I must hate this one too... :p

[Edit - it would appear I can't spell or type or write a coherent sentence at the moment.]

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I have this on DVD though I haven't got around to watching it yet. Your review makes it sound better to my ears. :p

I saw that at Hetan's place before the BBQ. Overall it was surprisingly enjoyable and made great use of the film's landscape. Although I also had Morgy explaining viking history to me throughout so it made a bit more sense. I'm impressed with the lead actor's ability to play the role (mostly) silent, I was initially very worried it would make for a dull movie and was pleasantly surprised.

There was also some pretty spectacular gore.

Watched Grown Ups recently. It was okay. The plot seemed more of a set-up for their one-liners than an actual story, which was disappointing. Still, it was rather funny and as it was a (recent) Sandler movie I wasn't expecting much.

Watched Primer this weekend. It's a small budget flick (made in 2004, by the way) about a couple of guys who inadvertently create a time-machine. It is well shot, and easy to watch. It is, however, confusing. Well done film that kept my attention, if only because the entire time I was thinking "what the fuck is going on?" It eventually delivers a conclusion, with other mysteries created and left fairly confusingly solved along the way.

All together, it is worth at least a watch as it puts your mind to a test as to figuring out the film as it is taking place. No matter what it is both dense and shallow, depending upon how much you care. In the end it delivers the moral and ethical questions that are usual normal question time-travel flicks have been based on for the past century.

It is hard to describe this film, actually. I've changed this review around quite a bit already.

Watch it and judge for yourself, I guess.

6.5 out of 10.

Would if I could be, but unfortunately I like romantic comedies far too much to take up that mantle.
