Not being a comic fanboy at all, to present the other point of view from Apt, I found X3 adequately entertaining. Seriously, it's like watching a movie made from a favourite book. Take LOTR. They made Legolas into a nancy pancy fairy, made Sam and Frodo more gay than they were in the books and portrayed Aragorn into the Emo king. I can say that because their characters were quite different in the book and I think it's a sin what they did with a few of them. If I'd never read the books at all however, I would have thought that the movies stand on their own quite well.

I've never picked up an xmen comic, much less know any of the story. So, not constantly caring what they did with characters and storylines and history I found it very watchable and fairly entertaining. You gotta face it. The movies almost never follow the comic plotlines because hollywood is a pile of wussy crap and won't touch the coolest (and usually the most gritty) plot elements with a ten foot pole.

Just don't go see the next comic book movie. The only reason they keep making them is that every single one is a massive moneymaker. If all the fanboys got together for the next xmen/spiderman/whatever-superhero movie and boycotted the thing entirely, holywood might smarten up and hire a writing team that doesn't suck balls. They produce these piles of shit mainly because they can. If somebody told you that you could sell a product that people were guaranteed to buy, and that you'd make millions on every sale regardless of the product's quality...wouldn't you do it?

Not if I was a marvel fan :(

It just bothers me that these films a produced with the help of Marvel consultants. I mean Stan Lee approves these films for christ sake. You'd think some old Marvel writer would see a copy of the proposed screenplay and go "Wait a minute. That's a really crappy story idea. Why not just use this old one here." Then track down the hollywood screenwriters that made the original manuscript and shoot them... a lot... with big guns... to ensure they don't ever make such a crap manuscript again.

AHA! So X-men 3 is only shit if you're a comic fanboy. Makes a lot more sense now:)

(not read Apt's rant but)

X-Men 3 is a really badly made movie. To put it into context, I am not a comic fanboy but X-Men was my favourite cartoon when I was a kid (I have no clue how faithfully that followed the comics...), I like 1 and 2 but I hated 3. It's really badly edited (I'm not such a movie buff that I would ever usually notice editing). For a non-comic fanboy, the storyline is entertaining enough but it just didn't fit together in a way that pulled the viewer. All of the plot lines that give X-Men any relevance (like Rogue deciding about having the cure, or the dude with the wings) was skimmed so you didn't care about any of the characters. Vinnie Jones was just cringeworthy and I was really confused about what happened to the Prof at the end. The end fight was really rubbish when it could have been brilliant. They tried to fit too much into the film and the result was a huge half-assed plot.

Plus, Wolverine's pants being indestructible around the groinal region was simply a crime against womanity :(

How about just going to see good movies - regardless of whether or not they come from comic book sources?

There's varying degrees of good: there's at least The Deer Hunter good, Armageddon good, The Lion King good, and PBS documentary good.

Well, Cyclops and Superman don't necessarily fail all the time. For example, Cyclops pretty much comprehensively kicks Wolverine's ass.

He also has the secondary mutation of being irresistible to psychic chicks.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

He isn't, a lot yes, no where near all anymore.

He does it because he gets paid an obscene amount of cash for it. From what I understand, he never sees the scripts, and would have absolutley no say over the movie itself. He just wanted to try and appear in every major marvel film being made. I might be able to find the article on it, but it would have been from at least 5 years ago.

No, I just left out the pages where he says how they're all alive, just unconscious, and how Black's powers will return. And also all the hypocritical crying Black does.

If you want my personal choice for an epic Superman story, go get Superman: Red Son, an alternate history comic where Soviet Russia crashes Superman. Best Lex Luthor ever.

Now, back to the [linet]show[/linet] movies!

Well, a bit more comics:

Superman has a personal force field around himself - which is why he's fine but his cape is always getting shredded - and attacks of sufficient force can penetrate it, eg. Doomsday or Darkseid.

Stan Lee has zero say in what happens in comics - see Spiderman's Brand New [linet]Fucking Retarded Idea Designed to Rehash Plotlines That Were Tired And Samey In The 70's[/linet] Day - and will basically say yes to whatever idea the Marvel guys have. Also I really want Quesada (main guy at Marvel) to stop having ideas.

Peter Parker 2 is pants. Really pants.

My favourite Wolverine comic is the one where the Punisher shoots off his face, shoots him in the balls, and then parks a steamroller on him.

OK I'm done.

New Punisher movie? It's not the same crap as the latest one is it? Because that was foul.

Dolph Lundgren was a much better Punisher.

I call retcon bullshit. As I said, I haven't read many comics, but even I know this isn't how it used to be. It may be how it is now, but not back in the day.

Well a forcefield would make more sense than Superman simply being indestructible.
