They didnt have crossbows ANYWHERE in england at the time as far as i know. And the same goes for trebuchets (or whatever that was supposed to be) and stir ups for that matter.

I saw narnia and no, it does not ram the religious allegory down your throat. And it has children that can act! Not LOTR but definitely worth a looksee (though given that this is a fantasy forum i guess i dont have to say that).

Gotta love the fawn.

No the Picts had kept the crossbow alive and in use in scotland (not england true) from the roman times, there is now a fair bit of evidence for it, which is why their research was absolutely useless. Trebuchets definately not, what were they thinking.

Regarding historic fumbles it will never get worse than "Gladiator".
Looking at army equipment one gets shivers, and seeing the Roman army (known for their field battles) making a stand in woods and FLAMING them to cloak a cavalry attack through burning forest you consider to leave - screaming loudly.

I don't disagree about King Arthur's flaws. But I still think the movie's fun. I stand by my right to have enjoyed it. :)

But you have no right to enjoy it. this is democracy at its finest. The majority think it is terrible, and so you have the choice to either conform or burn..

Saw Doom.

And for a cheesy action flick it was pretty good actually. Oh yeah the whole DNA thing and the wrestling matches were silly and the fact that there was no hell in doom was beyond gay but apart from that.

I was grinning from ear to ear during the whole first person sequence.

Of course it couldve been a whole lot better. But it was never boring...

I saw Narnia today. Very good representation of the book, on the whole, though the "Lucy is such a cutie" thing wore off after about 5 minutes. The other kids were fairly annoying as well, but Aslan was done well, and the Centaur dude with two swrods was pretty awesome!

I too caught Narnia today....man, that sounds like I caught VD or something....

Anyways, it was decent. Didn't blow my socks off or anything but it was fine enough. My biggest complaint is the music. There was no catchy, recognizable theme or for that matter, any memorable music at all. All grand, sweeping orchestra stuff but very generic.

As for King Arthur, they were trying to put a spin on it that is likely....Arthur was Roman (descended from them or not).....Crossbows were in use, but not by the picts. I believe it was cambrian celts (as the Picts would not have had much access to Roman weapons being above the wall and all.). As for Trebuchets.....ou gotta remember that the Roman's were in Britain for about 200 years and they did use heavy weapons called "bastillae", Roman seige engines, which were in essence Trebuchets, or the precursor to....and when the Romans abandoned Britain in the 4th century to go home to Rome to fight off invasions by the Visigoths, they would not have taken all that with them. No point really. So there would have been leftover caches of these in Roman forts all over britain. So the weapons are not what I took issue with in King Arthur....but rather the story was LAME...and they made Bishop Germanus bad....who was, by all historical accounts of the man, a great general, and an even greater bishop.

Saw march of the penguins. One thing i learned... dont be a penguin.

And yeah... attributing human emotions to birds with a brain the size of a walnut wasnt exactly the most scientific thing to do... but DAMN baby penguins are CUTE!

Anyway if you like nature documentaries or penguins take a look, but its really not THAT good.

I was really hoping that King Arthur would turn out similar to Jack Whyte's A Dream of Eagles series of books, and it did share some things in common, but it was a disappointment on that level. Whyte's Bishop Germanus was waaay better. Anyway, I still enjoyed the movie.

Oh, and the worst thing about Bishop Germanus was getting a scabby old Italian (nothing against Italians) who doesn't speak a word of English to play him. I'm sorry, but scabby old Italians as Romans doesn't work for me. It's a movie, and everyone know that only Brits may portray Romans in movies (or other English speakers imitating Brits).

Well if you're looking for a bag guy in a movie then look no further than a Brit.

And if you're looking for an atypical Brit look for... Hugh Grant. I suppose it's better than thinking we all sound like we're from EastEnders as my Aussie work colleagues seem to imagine. Guvvner...

And I have to second Jarhead it does look very good... I think Jake Gyllenhaal (sp) is an excellent actor...

Huuuuuu Rahhhh

PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN!!!2!!!

Quick! someone make a time portal! need 2 c movie. Bad! The trailer was awesome, I was laughing through even that!

Jarhead sounds pretty good 2. I like war movies, historical or modern. You always get every range of emotion in those battle situations. always gives way to excellent acting.

Btw has anyone watched equilibrium? Its one of the most kick ass movies I've ever seen. action sequences really smooth and fairly decent plot 2.
