I know i have put up picks of them on set and what not but cant find it.
Anyways..thought i would start a thread on this upocoming feature.

It is apparently a "dynamic new portrayal of Conan Doyle’s famous characters, “Sherlock Holmes” sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country."

So a fighting sherlock holmes??...might be...interesting.

For those of you that dont know its the seemingly back on track Guy Ritchie's new film.
Staring Downey Jnr as Sherlock and Jude Law as watson

Fighting Sherlock Holmes? Really. They might aswell give the role of Watson to Jackie Chan while they're at it... :p

I heard that they're going to portray him as having a gay relationship with Watson. That's going to be interesting.

Whatever's left of Conan Doyle will be spinning in his grave..
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Downey Jr. doesn't fit my image of Holmes at all....Holmes was tall, beak-nosed, had a languid manner about him. Downey is short, and usually plays snarky, silver-tongued characters (well, not in Tropic Thunder, but you know..)

And that's not a deerstalker cap he's wearing in that poster!

Ah well, Hollywood has no qualms about tarnishing treasured literary figures....

Well, it sounds like they are interpreting the characters, not following the books strictly. There's a rumor that Sherlock Holmes has a relationship with Watson and according to Dkt there'll be plenty of fighting in the film. Sounds like they are going the way of "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "Van Helsing" and giving classical characters a new spin.

I'm guessing the bad guy will be Moriarty. Can't wait to see who will be playing him.

iirc, it's canon that Holmes can scrap. I remember him being an accomplished boxer I think, if not a martial artist as well. It wasn't a focal point of the story, but it was mentioned that he could resort to fisticuffs when necessary.

Yes, 'giving them a new spin'...or, you know, using the characters in name only, ignoring anything that doesn't fit in with their modernized script.

Watson and Holmes gay? I'm pretty sure Watson was married....

I don't remember him being much of a fighter (could be I've just never read about it), more a man of refined taste, suave, unflappable.

I do remember him being a master of disguise. I hope they use that bit at least.

They should just make a Pendergast movie if they want a modern twist....

I knew it! confirmed by wiki, Holmes was a skilled amateur boxer, he also practiced martial arts.

Holmes is also reckoned a formidable fist-fighter, though his prowess is only reported second-hand. In The Sign of Four, Holmes introduces himself to the prize-fighter McMurdo as "the amateur who fought three rounds with you at Alison's rooms on the night of your benefit four years back." McMurdo responds by saying, "Ah, you're one that has wasted your gifts, you have! You might have aimed high, if you had joined the fancy." In "The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist", Holmes gets the better of Woodley with a straight left; in "The Adventure of the Empty House", Holmes remarks how a criminal named Matthews had knocked out Holmes's left canine tooth at Charing Cross Station.

In "The Adventure of the Empty House", Holmes recounts to Watson how he used martial arts to overcome Professor Moriarty and fling his adversary to his death at the Reichenbach Falls. He states: "I have some knowledge, however, of baritsu, or the Japanese system of wrestling, which has more than once been very useful to me."

"Baritsu" was a drafting error on the author's part who meant to refer to the real martial art of Bartitsu. Despite this, for a while at least, it still acquired some notoriety all of its own.

Well, Holmes has been refered to as an accomplished fighter several times, and he is surprisingly strong, his grip like iron and all that.

He's also smokes, drinks, does drugs and have long bouts of depression. There's no woman in his life and he almost destroys himself when Watson marries, so it's not that far fetched all things told

Oh, my bad. Didn't see that part about Guy Ritchie directing....but it doesn't excite me any. His films mostly blow, with a couple exceptions.

I always saw watson as nothing more than a literary device. In explaining his genius to watson in a usually condescending manner watson acts as a shield between the reader and homes.
