I freely admit to being a Buffy and Angel fan back in the day. BUFFY was, in its time, and expecially after its only-ok first season, some of the most novel and fun sf tv out there and ANGEL, except for the mess that was its last two seasons, was a lot of fun. So Joss Whedon had established his bona fides for my purposes, if he wanted to make tv, i would try it.

Then came Firefly. And i was not impressed. Too slow. Too angsty. Too dusty. I tried. I watched more eps than i didn't. But Firefly didn't work for me, tho i did think the movie was okay as a wrap-up of the series.

So i hear Joss is putting together a new series. And he's got Eliza Dushku in on it. Eliza was a fun part of the B/A series when she showed up, so okay, interesting enuf. Then the DOLLHOUSE set-up gets circulated. Mindwiped pretty people get sent on missions as sex slaves and assassins. Okay Joss. You have my interest. Now wow me.

Three eps in... the wow MAY be there. It may not. I haven't decided yet. The first ep with the kidnap plot was okay. Set up the premise. Some action. Ep two was great fun. More action. Eliza can actually act. Set up MORE plot. Ep three was middle of the road...i liked how things turned out but getting there dragged at points.

Anyrate, with Fringe on hiatus til April i have some free tv time and am prepared to give this a shot.

Your thoughts?

- Abyss, notes " 'The Dush'/'that guy who plays Halo on BSG' is hawtness and i must watch her/him all the time!" does not amount to 'thought'...

The guy that is on BSG is the hawtness and I must watch this show...

Not really, I really like some of Whedon's earlier works, and imo Firefly was fantastic so I had to give this show a shot. The idea behind it is interesting and I thought the first few episodes were ok, but I don't really think the "wow" is there.

http://www.penny-arc...omic/2009/2/27/, this comic and the writing they do about it sort of sums up how I feel about this show. I want to watch it because Whedon does some good work, but if it isn't there than it just isn't there.

I'm a big Firefly fan, but never watched any Buffy. As such, I wouldn't really call myself a Whedon worshipper, but do I trust him to be careful with internal consistency and the like. From what I've seen so far, I think it definitely has the potential to be great. There are lots of things hinted at being just around the corner, and to say that the initial episodes are supposed to be light on the overarching plot, they've crammed quite a bit in there. I hadn't seen any of the trailers etc., so when the twist came in that second episode I was pretty Wowed. And they managed to set Echo's handler up as a character I feel sympathetic for, which is always a good hook to get me to come back and watch.

I've seen a spoiler about who the actor playing Alpha is, which made me really want to keep watching. On the other hand, giving it away would perhaps ruin the surprise (I believe Whedon wants it to be one), so I'll keep it to myself.

I'm enjoying the show. Elisha leaves me a bit numb in terms of her acting ability, but besides that I've enjoyed the three episodes so far and will keep watching.

Also, I <3 Helo. :D

Buffy was great, in it's time.

I only recently saw Firefly, but at least I saw it all in the right order. I really liked it after I got over the whole western theme, but 'Byss is right the film Serenity seemed rushed and changed the characters, and didn't wrap it up well.

I'll have to keep an eye out for Dollhouse, sounds interesting..
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

When BUFFY wrapped i would have declared myself a jossite and sworn i would have watched anything he produced. Then ANGEL spiralled down into drek (admittedly Whedon wasn't actively involved at the time) and FIREFLY failed to impress me. But while i am far from a browncoat type fanatic, i like Joss as a personality, i think he gets the genre and hey, he wrote a neat run of X-Men comics so i must needs give him some respect and chance at my thinkymeatz time.

I could get to really like DOLLHOUSE or i could lose interest. It's at that point that reminds me of first season ALIAS - this show could be awesome or it could be silly and i'm waiting to see which (ALIAS, of course, went on to be the awesomest thing on tv for the latter chunk of its first and all of its second season, and then the less said the better). And also whether FOX just cancels DH and slots in AMERICAN IDOL'S GREATEST TRYOUT EMBARASSMENTS STARRING WILLIAM HUNG. There are a lot of places the show could go, positive or negative. Whether it gets the chance is also up for debate.

And now i'm totally intrigued about who is playing Alpha - damn you Thursday!!!!

- Abyss, will not google... will not... will not...

ETA: Okay, i'm weak, i looked.

- Abyss, weak. So very weak.

He wrote Alien Resurrection.

Just saying.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Alright, Episode 4 got alot better, In my opinion.

You can see that the hsow is slowly building up. I just hope it doesn't take to long, as it would be a shame for it to get cancelled because of some shit first episodes.

I like how they haven't thrown Alpha into the mix yet. I can't wait to find out who it is. I have a feeling it's going to be one of the men out of Firefly, But not Nathan, for sure.

Yeah, Nathan's got his own show starting today called Castle. I'm going to give it a shot because of him, but I've never been a huge fan of cop dramas (even if this one seems to be set up slightly differently).

Yeah I am going to try Castle out as well, because of Fillion.

I see some people saying that it is getting better, not sure if I should watch 3/4 now if I have free time. I had planned on not watching more after 2, but if it is getting better I may have to give Joss one more chance.

Ep. 3 wasn't all that great, but Ep. 4 was a definite increase in quality, IMO. Some slightly more interesting stuff going on :).

@ Vizz- I'd hold off on watching eps 3/4 if you didn't like it so far. Nothing much to write home about to be honest.

I'm a huge Firefly fan, and I enjoyed Buffy, and even Angel whenever i saw it. So i was really hoping for another Whedon series.
But while i can see the beginnings of an interesting premise in this series, I can't see Eliza Dushku being able to carry off the lead role based on what i've seen so far. She can do kick ass, but it's in the quieter moments that she seems really wooden.
And I can't get over the fact the in the same series, you have the actress who would probably be a better lead, Amy Acker (who plays the doctor with the scarred face).

The idea of Alpha, and what he wants could be cool. And I like how they've done Echo's handler so far. But they seem to be wasting the part of the FBI agent, but that might change if/when he actually picks up the trail of the Dollhouse and starts to get close.

Like I said, I'm predisposed to liking Joss' work, but I'm not really hopeful of this lasting a full season at this point.

I can't quite make up my mind whether i liked the heist ep last week. The overall plot points were interesting but the hesit story - despite the fun bait-and-switch start, just seemed hacked together to let other stuff happen. Tho i did like how they used Sierra with the same personality implant.

- Abyss, still in.

I'm hoping Ballard turns out to be Alpha but doesn't know it.

Or that Alpha's been downloading himself into people and there are like six of him.

Or that the show doesn't get cancelled before we find out...

Well, after 5 so-so episodes, the real Dollhouse finally turned up. Great, great episode. Better dialogue, reveals, intrigue, plotting, action, central theme to explore, it had it all. I'm going to pretend the first 5 didn't exist and just start from here :X.

I agree Sir Thursday. That was a great episode. Plenty of furthering the plot, and lots of wheels within wheels revealed. glad to see them use the FBI role better in this ep too.

I'm feeling much happier about the series after this. Fingers crossed they maintain this quality!

I think i accidentally found out who will be playing Alpha too, which could be interesting. I'm annoyed that i came across the reference by mistake though. damn my random clicking of links in IMDB!!

And on a separate note, I know we have an ongoing thread of who should play various characters if there were ever to be a malazan movie/series, well the woman that lives across the hall from mr FBI might be a good Tattersail? What do you think?

Too young and not tubby enuf. :D

But yes, this ep was excellent. From the Dollhouse as urban legend bits to the twists at the end, just really strong tv and totally more fun. I liked.

Yeah, I loved the last episode as well. For all the points you guys have mentioned.

I'm just worried that these further-the-story-arc, reveal-new-info episodes are going to be interspersed every 3-4 eps with Echo just going on lame-ass 'dates' or 'secret missions' the rest of the time.

EDIT: I think that chubby neighbor is cute as hell, and could see her as a movie version of Tattersail - not that true to her desc. in GotM, but hey, I can live with that.
