don't get things mixed up - the fulltime motion picture was made as a reaction to firefly evolving into a cult series, years after the show got cut. and frankly, if you put a show like that after friday's sports event, it's SUCH a surprise attendance was low, really! from where I stand, the movie didn't do the characters justice, and you can't just put the whole setting into 2hrs and expect anyone to catch on properly. even worse that they destroyed any chance for continuation with the serenity crew.

maybe, but more happened in those 2 hrs to actually move, at least the River/Reaver/conspiracy plot along, than in all 14 eps combined. You can't blame scheduling for a show not getting enuf love.

see, to me, the characters are some of the best to ever grace the TV screen, and after only 14 episodes, that's quite something. great humor, interesting plots, gray-and-gray morality, well-written characters, an original setting, all of that is in there.

Great chracters require great character development. In 14 eps we got mild progression in the Mal/SpaceHo romance. no progression in the cute engineer girl/stuck up dr unrequited lurv, Zoe and Wash making suggestive comments, Book acting enigmatic, a Baldwin bro being a dick and River perpetually hinting that she was something really impressive.... or put another way, nothing changed between the first few eps and the last few. Say what you will about Buffy, where she was in the premiere of S1 was very different from where she was at the end of it.

I give you the setting. Joss set up an interesting futurverse, but what gray-and-gray? Other than shooting a horse, the nastiest thing Mal ever did was trick his crew into deserting him so he could go down with the ship. And on the other hand you had Great Big Uncaring Authoritarian Establishment.

it's somewhat apparent you'd like this to be an action flick. ...

No. I wanted it to MOVE. Not in drips and drabs, but in actual steps that showe something was HAPPENING. Maybe you were truly madly stunned when Mal beat Elitist Royal Dick in the swordfight for Spaceho's honour, but it did nothing for the story. Jane had a whole frikkin town dedicated to him, but the following week was still a dick. River was basically Summer Glau acting trippy for 14 eps. Come on! Have Mal declare that the ruling class are a bunch of idiots and kick up the revolution. Have Jane be someone other than the same dick Baldwin's been playing since the X-Files only with better lines. Have River do... something, ANYTHING, before the dead last episode. I don't need 'splosions. One of the best episodes of genre tv ever was, imnsho, a BABYLON 5 ep that took place entirely in an empty room with a lead character being interrogated.

(also, buffy and angel are just not interesting at all beyond SMG's tits)

Buffy and characters never ended a season in the same place they started it. You had interesting side and ongoing plots that advanced. It had entirely unexpected random events like a major characters going evil, leaving, dying (sometimes almost randomly), getting major power-ups or downs...
But to each their own. we could debate this until the next failed Joss project and not convince anyone.

- Abyss, ...will add that Zoe is the only character ever to look hot in bad beige pants, i give you that.

I finally saw the first episode of this (ITV4 are now showing it and I have it on series record!) I like it. I like the concept and the ideas. I also think there is a lot of potential but I'm not going to read this thread too much as I know I am way behind. :(

I only recently saw Firefly, but at least I saw it all in the rightorder. I really liked it after I got over the whole western theme, but'Byss is right the film Serenity seemed rushed and changed thecharacters, and didn't wrap it up well.

I think I saw a different series than Abyss did. Also, the original scheduling for Firefly was truly abysmal. The network execs that inherited the project really had no faith in the series and only paid lip service to getting it to succeed.

The last episode of Dollhouse was seriously twisted. Such base amorality is common enough on cable but it's still pretty ballsy of them to go this dark on American network TV.

Actually i thought the last ep of DOLLHOUSE was pretty good. Note that there was almost no Echo in the story.

Ah well, i suspect the writing is on the pretty candle lit heavily guarded wall for this show.

- Abyss, surprised that Sierra can actually act.

All over the internuts today... cancelled, canceled, cancelled.

Fox claims they'll run the rest of the eps Dec-Jan but i wouldn't be shocked if they held some back to boost DVD sales.

I could be wrong but i think the last 13 eps are already in the can, so no closure unless someone gives Joss the dollars to reshoot.

I'll watch the rest but i can't say i'm shattered.

- Abyss, ...pleased that at least he won't have that eeriely meme'esque theme song stuck in his head for much longer...

Not going to be losing any sleep here either. Having watched every episode so far, I still do not get the point. At all. Really - the hell is this show about?

Holy crap! Has anyone watched the latest episode? I just did, and, as my boyfriend just said, "Joss Whedon, you magnificent bastard."
