1. Analyze the ever-shifting political alliances on Wu
2. Determine whether or not you know all of the plots and subplots beyond all doubt
3. Review the author's propensity to obfuscate
4. Determine the expected "hold time" of an Azath House resident, placed there by a lying, conniving, deceitful god for reasons we are not aware of
5. Research the LD50 of Paralt Spider Venom
6. Write an essay offering an opinion (if available) regarding the likely candidate(s) for the assasin's assasination, and the reasons held by each candidate including motive and accessibility
7. Include references please for your factual assumptions, and opinions for items 4, 5, and 6

Thank you.

OHA

I have absolutely nothing to add to this discussion except to say, how the eff do you know what LD50 means? I thought I was the only person nerdy enough to know that, considering I write Hazard Protection Plans and give training on CBRN and TIC/TIM hazards.
A wretched soul, bruised with adversity, We bid be quiet when we hear it cry;
But were we burdened with like weight of pain,
As much or more we should ourselves complain.

Suggestion: author cop-out. Esslemont needs a reason for Vorcan's daughter to get out of the picture. She vanishes into a warren (probably her own, whichever one she is conversant with), chased by knives and magic. That magic need not be very strong, the knives need not be thrown by an assassin. It's just an excuse for Esslemont to remove her from the battlefield. The knives are referred to as heavy to explain why she doesn't simply swat them aside; regardless, her job is done, so she leaves.

On another note, there is nothing in the story to say that the soldiers know that it is indeed Laseen that was killed. In fact, it says the exact opposite on the page before. and I qoute "The soldiers paid her hardly any attention at all. They obviously thought her just another cadre mage, or Claw. She'd even approached a common Malazan sergeant for a cloth and been given a dirty rag..." From this it can be noted that no one except Possum, Taya, and Cowl knew who she was, and they were just defending the murder of a Claw in the middle of their camp.

Quote was found on Page 661 American Paperback, 2nd paragraph in chapter IV.
