I find it amusing to hear a brit say US food sucks......

They have damn good bacon.

Mez, stop eating at fast food joints etc.! And when you're in NYC, it should be easy to find plenty of foreign restaurants. Foreigners might not be cool to hang out with, but they have different food. English restaurants are hard to find though, sorry - you guys just aren't exotic enough.

I am actually jealous of you being able to hang out in NYC on weekends. Must be nice. I'd love to live in a place where I'm surrounded by hordes of people, none of whom are interested in having a conversation with me. I love going to public places to read, and kind of drawing from the social energy of the hubbub. It all gets ruined if someone tries to get in my bubble, though. :p

Actually, Bent... they kinda burnt down the white house and lots of Washington D.C.
And that would be bad ...why?

If someone tried that now it would be bad because Obama would be forced to reveal his superpowers to the citizens of DC!

Is Super O the mortal sword of Oprah... or do I have that switched around?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

"Ready Salted"

As opposed to "Salted"? Even bags of crisps sound pompous in British English.

It's because you can also get crisps that are not salted but come with little blue bags of slat inside, which you can use to apply salt to the desired level. Thus the need to say ready slated, as they're pre-slated and do not come with the option for less salt.

Also, american chocolate is painfully piss poor. Dont get me wrong, I love most american food - any country that invented teh burger is legendary in my estimation - but the chocolate, yeesh. FAIL.

Also, I wouldnt call the Revolutionary War a civil war, Jim. I'd call it a bunch of uppity terrorist insurgents being unnacountably aided by the spaniards and french.:p :p

Hey Mez, have you tried to encourage any of the younger research assistants or lab techs into going drinking or socialising. From several labs i've been in they are often more socially adjusted and/or total piss-heads. Surely if you're in New Jersey there must be at least one or two other British or Irish people where you are (or even an Irish-American?)?

That said you are dealing with medical people (or wannabe medical people which is worse), whereas I studied geology initially and then zoology and those two faculties have some serious drinking clubs. but maybe that's because our fieldwork in Ireland inevitably met our sh!t weather and everyone retired to the pub. Good times.

Hope things have picked up for the weekend.

They'll drag you down to their level, and then beat you with experience!

We are not your friends :p and "Bob the builder can he build it..Yes he can!" There is a potential for a copyright suit here, but we like Obama more than is healthy, so no one will do it.

This is confusing, I thought you two were both British.

I don't think we ever assumed the words were original - they're far too generic, lol. Don't forget about The Little Engine That Could...
