I go to NYC every weekend and fill my stomach and my mind with all sorts of stuff, but the week nights are just killing me.

@ Shin - Basic foodstuffs here are all over salted or sugared. I want real cheese and I want bread that doesn't taste sweet! You are all philistines!!!!

I think I just had a bad week. I like travelling but only for a couple of weeks at a time. It's good to go somewhere, pick the best bits and then go home

And "basic foodstuffs" to me means raw meats, vegetables, fruits, flour, cooking oil etc etc. Those things are neither salted or sugared to my knowledge.....

Find a "Whole Foods" and they usually have a great cheese selection from all over the world. There are some great US cheeses, but they are not usually mass produced for grocery stores - you gotta find a specialty shop. I know that it is different from british cheddar, but most wisconsin cheddars are outstanding if you can find anything aged beyond 3 years (again, not mass produced).
