OK, seems we're still waiting for some to end their fights, so I'll start my voting/comments, and will update this post as the new ones appear. There's also a few finished fights I have to re-read to vote.

Note: to avoid being influenced/confused, I didn't read any of the other comments and votes on this thread so far, so sorry if some of it is rehashed.

Illy - Melza: Illy
Morgoth - Bauchelin: Morgoth
Sin - Alt: Alt
D'rek - STd: STd.

---

Illy - Melza: An interesting read, with a light feeling, like my fight with Tapper I appreciated that. Illy had some good jokes in there, if his tennis joke is original, he should start some stand-up comedy :) . The Shrimperor is a bit like Duke, mostly a character with little story. Melza's general idea is much better and more interesting, and I'm curious to see how it develops. Still, I felt that, of the last two posts, there was too little actual fighting in Melza's, most of it was taken by more story. Then again, in the state Illy left her character after his 3rd post, I don't know if she could have avoided that. Still, by a very little margin, I vote Illy.

---

Morgoth - Beauchelin: Lots of good fighting and violence there, a satisfying read. For the first two posts, I prefered Beauchelin's, because it was a good mix of character and DeathMatch, while Morgoth's was purely character, like a second intro post. However, for the rest, Morgoth had an excellent fighting post, but why why Beauchelin's so short? It was good, but it seems he just ran out of steam, so for this I vote Morgoth.

---

Alt - Sin: That was quite of an interesting fight too. Two very interesting characters, although alt's remains my favorite of all those playing now. I like the way he continued his description, and his arrival in the ring. Shin's had a very distinctive style, it is often hard to catch what is happening but that's the whole point of his Spider-boy. I'll give my vote for Alt because of a technicality, which is the long paragraph in Shin's post made from the POV of alt's character. It took me out of the "discussion" between the two fighters, which are the alternating posts.
---

D'rek - Sir Thursday: Well, I couldn't judge before, and after re-reads I still can't. This is the best fight of round 1 so far IMO. Both players have interesting writing and stories, and they play with each other perfectly, you can see how they incorporate elements of each other's posts. I also like how the fight is playing with each other's strengths and weaknesses. I honestly don't know who to chose, but since I have to I'll go with STd because of the unique 1st person narrative and because of the amusing fact he's rooting against his own fighter.

Hehe - technically I'm not playing anymore, but thanks for the vote :)

Gutted! But I can't complain being beaten by that character. I can still vote in subsequent rounds though, right?

I want to share where my idea was going, because I liked it! I had planned an epic struggle between Steven Erikson and David Eddings for Fantassy's immortal soul and thus that of the entire genre (mainly because I have just discovered I'm not actually very good at writing a scrap). Eddings was going to re-animate David Gemmell and Robert Jorden to be on his side :)

And commiserations to my fellow losers! I think Alt and BtheE suffered from very unlucky draws against some outright tournament favourites. Illy obviously cheated though :D

I am an outright favourite? I am flattered :)

Also, JA/Tapper, can I have the first post of our match?

I'm more than oki with that, seeing how I started the first round (by my own request). However, JA just needs the one vote, so you better suck up to him :p

JA has a poster of my gorgeous self on his bedroom wall. I doubt he'll say no to me

If I go through I don't mind either. Plus, I already have an idea for the last paragraph :p

DiBs v Cause (DrinksinBars)

DiBs' writing was excellent, particularly the second post. He described plenty of action and did it beautifully, plus I thought he handled the duality of the split personality very well. While Cause's writing style was goodl, I didn't really feel like he developed the character of his fighter very much - partially, I suppose, because he had an external narrator, so I suppose I should be somewhat forgiving on that front. It also seemed like Cause didn't really add much to what actually happened in the fight. So DiBs it is.

Sir Thursday
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Well, mine's finished, but it's a bit over the word count, and i'm not really sure where I can take stuff out.

I'll submit if people don't mind, or I can try and get it down a bit, whcih may take a while.

For now however, i'll post it. If there is a problem with the count being too high, just say and i'll re do and post another instead.

Oh god.

If I win, I get Illy?

How the hell am I meant to fight him with a serious character?

of course you should vote too. You're part of the game, and half the fun is the voting process. IT would be kind of mean to exclude you just because you won the preliminaries.

Are you implying my character is not... serious?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

OK, voting:

Illy vs Mez:

Both were very good I think. I found both very funny, and think both had good ideas behind them. Both were well written, and I find it hard to judge between them.
I'm going to give my vote to Mez in the end because I preferred the idea of her character.

DiBs vs Cause:

Again, both very good.
Really enjoyed Cause's . Hard to put my finger on why why, but there's just something about his character/writing that I really enjoy. Really liked the external narrator.
The split personality of DiBs character was fantastic as well.
In the end, gonna vote Cause

Tapper vs. JA:

Both were funny aswell, and the fight was very balanced. Really liked Tapper's idea, but I think i'm gonna vote JA, just because his made me laugh more.

Morgoth vs BtE:

Morgoth gets my vote.
The first post made me laugh, and the second was well written.
BtEs was very good aswell, but just seemed to lack some of the detail in Morgoths.

ST vs D'rek:

Enjoyed both, and thought the multiple characters were well done by both.
Preffered D'rek overall. I think the way ST decided to tell the story disadvantaged him. Also, D'rek said "potsherd"

Shinrei vs. Alt:

This fight was amazing. I think it was great how both had the other characters commenting on the fight, which really brought it to life in some ways.
My vote is going to Shinrei.
A hard decision, but his character is just eerie. His first post and the exchange at the end of his second were what did it for me, really.

everyone should vote, but the voting phase ends next friday, if we have all clear winners before that then excellent, if not the votes will be tallied at that point and the tourney begins quarter finals.
