Votes:
1. Illy vs Mez (Illy)
2. Dibs vs Cause (----)
3. Tapper vs JA (JA)
4. Morgoth vs Bauch (Morgoth)
5. ---
6. Temp vs Grief (----)
7. Alt vs Shin (Shin)

Comments:

1. Both were extremely original ideas, but I've gotta give it to Illy for pulling off the cultural differences so well and hilariously. Props to Mez for pulling off her writing with such a strange opponent.

2.

3. Both extremely excellent in all manner of ways. I especially like how you both write each other's characters very well, and in fact how your characters start to mimic each other throughout the fight, becoming a sort of macho-man competition between the two. Which of course culminates perfectly with the ending. Very close, but JA takes the cake.

4. For BtE, the fighting was great, but we never got to know enough about Shade and some more character backstory, motivations, that sorta thing would really have helped. Ben Doran is completely random and strange but Morg's writing is very vivid and does a great job of creating solid mental pictures, disturbing though they may be.

6.

7. Not that Alt is missing anything, per se, but Shin's got the tone of the story extremely well done with the hidden backstory hinted at by the businessmen and the description of the tentacle hairs is astounding.

Still thought I could have got at least one vote. Oh well I had fun and I'll try do better next time.

you just need to let the fight happen a little more, no need to get into so much detail. show not tell :D people are interested in conflict and motivation more than skills with a blade.

@D'rek - what do you mean about Ben Doran being completly random? I'm not taking it as an insult or anything, I'm just curious

Well when you think "ultimate fighters" a leprechaun isn't what naturally comes to mind. At least not to me. It was an unexpected character that you followed through with rather vividly.

Well, that's my seven. Damn shame, Mez, your character was pretty awesome.

Oh well. FOR THE SHRIMPEROR!
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Gutted! But I can't complain being beaten by that character. I can still vote in subsequent rounds though, right?

I want to share where my idea was going, because I liked it! I had planned an epic struggle between Steven Erikson and David Eddings for Fantassy's immortal soul and thus that of the entire genre (mainly because I have just discovered I'm not actually very good at writing a scrap). Eddings was going to re-animate David Gemmell and Robert Jorden to be on his side :D

And commiserations to my fellow losers! I think Alt and BtheE suffered from very unlucky draws against some outright tournament favourites. Illy obviously cheated though :p

Oh, cheating, yes, of course. If you'd gotten the chance, you should have reanimated George R. R. Martin as well. Oh, as far as I know you should be able to vote in later rounds, but I'd leave that to dibs to clarify. Although I am slightly worried about my next possible opponent - both Medieval Science Lady and to a lesser extent Prince Stumpy seem just a tad bit underpowered to fight my dude. Still, that's the challenge, I suppose.

Incidentally, I wonder if anyone's worked out the inspiration for my character's human form yet. There's enough clues in this thread and the entries to guess, if you're familiar enough with it.

Really sorry about the lateness, still working on my entry, but schoolwork is bad, cause exams soon.

Worried if I win :D

I'm more than oki with that, seeing how I started the first round (by my own request). However, JA just needs the one vote, so you better suck up to him :)

DiBs are you SERIOUS about the Round II draw?

If you beat Cause, I get you again..... 0-2 in my career vs. Dibs..... My little boy will have his work cut out for him. :D
You’ve never heard of the Silanda? … It’s the ship that made the Warren of Telas run in less than 12 parsecs.
