Ok first draft of the initial scene. Needs some work, so feel free to make minor or wholesale changes...

Salem, Massachusetts, 19th of January 2009.
Well who knew that President Bush as his final decree in office would be to stage a Midwinter Halloween? Nothing like boosting the morale of the nation and increasing spending by buying candy and giving it away to people in masks!

Naturally you can’t miss an opportunity like this so you put on your best Halloween costumes and hit the town with your neighbors and friends. You save your favorite place till last, Mr and Mrs Smith were always such great fans of Halloween and really got into the spirit of it, you had heard they’d moved out and new people had moved in, but you go check it out anyway.

And you are not disappointed! They’ve really gotten into the spirit of things like you hoped, the big old house looked suitably spooky with the high metal fence, overgrown lawn and almost no street lights around. The bars they have over the windows to protect them from the last winter storm really give it a sinister look.

They have even decorated the place for visitors; many people have carved pumpkins out, but not these people. There are a couple pretty realistic looking skulls on either side of the front porch, they even feel real, gotta love the effort they put into it. The only downside is it looks like someone spilt tomato sauce or something all on the front steps and didn’t clean it up. Nasty red stain like that could be hell to clean if it sets in.

The doors are open but no one seems to be around, but helpfully there is a table you can see further into the house laid out with sweet sweet chocolate. I guess if they didn’t want you to have any then they wouldn’t have it out like that, so you all nip into to get a bit.

Its not until your all inside filling your bags with treats when there is the click of a switch and all the lights go out. A second later an ominous boom fills the room, coming from the Front Door, followed by a sharp click as a key turns in the lock.

At least no one has screamed yet, thats got to be a good sign, you pull out torches and quicky do a head count. Strange, it seems like there is more of you now than before... A few murmurings and another count confirms it, there are more here now. This is bad, really bad.

Your just glad, someone brought a rope.

My suggestion on balance:

3 killers + 1 symp (2 killers 2 symps would also work)
2 Necromancers + 1 Creature
15 innocents , 1 night Vig, 1 Medium, 2 Witches, 1 Guard OR a pair of Twins, 2 Finders.

One question: how many names per night can the Necromancers send to the mods? only one gives less than 1/10 chances to recruit in night 1, which I think is little. So, 2, 3? Or a variable number, like 1/5th of the number of living players, rounded down?

edit: note also the "witch" role. If you don't like this variation, change it to what we had discussed before.

Haha I like them nice flavour.

For the witch I am not concerned either way. Your way certainly makes it easier on the Witch and night a lot quicker. I'm happy with either to be honest. Although there is more uncertainity if they have to pick only one :harhar: But yeah maybe just cover the whole night.

For the Necromancers I guess we need to figure out what is a good number. I'd probably go around 1/6th or so, or just one each, and let them discuss it.
Mainly because there is normally always an obvious kill each night, and the Creature will probably target it so they have a reasonable shot at picking one up.
1/6th will give them 3 till we hit 18 players left. Then 2 till 12 players. Then 1 from then on. Which is also not that bad number wise as well.

Only thing is, do we need a Healer as well? And pair the Finders? Perhaps have 3 Finders. One set paired, and one on their own.

Also note, we have 23 players, I had left Ment off the list. 23!

Ok starting the draw now. Names drawn out of a hat!

Killer 1: Stalker
Killer 2: Dibs
Symp Hypnotist: Twist
Symp Executioner: Vengeance

Necromancer 1: Morgoth45
Necromancer 2: Yellow
Creature: Baudin

Witch: Hinter
Witch: Mentallist
Vig: Tehol Bendict
Medium: Morgoth
Hypnotist: Peril
Psychic: The Dude
Psychic Paired: Kurt M
Psychic Paired: Master Blue
Executioner: Bent

EDIT:
Setup comments,
All roles drawn. Interesting mix of new and old players.

Evil teams look reasonable balanced for 23 players. Paired up they can survive an unlucky first up loss. Necromancer have less chance of recruiting, but get an added kill. The Killers have 2 roled symps to look after them. They won't know each other but the killers will have an idea on how the cult is going if someone they killed didn't die. And the Necromancers want to keep the killers around for a bit so they can get the extra recruit.

On the innos.
Two witches to make up for no healers of course if they both get targeted for kills and lose their BP's they're in trouble. But I guess thats better than nothing.
3 Finders with 2 finds between them, to balance between having the CF from the Medium lost early, but if he isn't lost early they still have to pick between Cult and Killer so the chances are a little lower in the large mix of players.
Then a Guard and a Vig to help out, and an Executioner for spice.

Morgoth has the most interesting role, he's got the question to ask so will know how team inno stand I imagine. The longer he stays alive the better team innos chances of winning. If he dies early it'll be down to Finders.

I have to admit I'm not 100% certain with the balance in this game, so I'll let you to your call.

The Witch is a kind of healer, she automatically heals herself every night, and can automatically heal everyone once in the game. That's already more thanmost healers :)

I agree with 1/6th for the Necromancer, it's a good number. I also like the idea of a good and a symp hypnotist.

I think 2 finders is enough, although having 3 and pairing 2 would also work. If we pair the finders we need to adjust the role description to make it possible.

So, I would draw one more inno witch, and 1-2 more Psychics, and I think we're good to go :harhar:

Ok good to go, I really like the setup, I reckon all teams are in with a decent shot to win and hopefully should be a great game.

From here: Do you want to edit the roles for the pyschics can be paired and post them up? We should post up the first scene as well cos the roles mention some of the scene. They'll be left confused otherwise. I am warming to my scene, poorly written but a work of inspired genius, ideas wise I say :harhar:
Anything you want me to add to it or change before we reveal all to the players?

Its 4am so i'm off to bed, tomorrow, I'll send out the roles to the alts, and then send the alt passwords out to the players and we should be good to go!
What timezone is Finland in? GMT+3 or so? I"ll try and pick a time which we both can be around for. And that one of us will be around to cover the end of the day.

Lot of work in setting these up I tell ya... appreciate all the help.

I'm GMT + 2, and I agree this should be fun :harhar:

I'll post the scene and roles, you can take care of the alts and passwords. Tell me if there's anything else you want me to do.

Yes, lots of work, but the worst is done. From now on it's vote count and scenes, with lots of copy/paste of PMs in this thread.

As a rule I post all the PMs I get, and delete them as I post them from the PS inbox, like this there's no confusion between us.

Ok we are go. All PMs have been sent out and roles assigned etc. I've said Game start at around 8am GMT Monday. Thats your 10am and my 4pm.

We are going to have a gap of no Mod for about 6 or so hours when we're both asleep. But should be ok otherwise, work is quiet for me.

Eager people, I've just sent the PMs out damn them and they're already responding.

From The Man Who Galain

Galain said:

Roleless innocent? Hmmm.

Scary.

I guess this means I won't be able to coast by on my role.

At least I have that list of roles for fake role claims.

Griefllan

Thyrllan said:

Aww

RI.

Well, at least im the only one who knows it, so i'll just pretend to be something else. This game looks like it will be good

Bentsahn finding out he's inno executioner

Rashan said:

Fucking sweet! Yhanks. See you tomorrow.

And now altalas

Ampelas said:

Awh, I wanted to be a necromancer. Oh well. At least there's candy here.

Mockra:

Quote

lovely
close enough to RI, I suppose.

And now Dibsan looking to enjoy the killer role.

Liosan said:

my omh my its been a long long time since i played evil, and i have built up a lot of grudges too but only two of us, and 20 something players, this should prove difficult.

but rewarding

And now Morgobahn. He brings up a good point which I might clarify on thread. They can lie in answer to the question asked. Otherwise he can just ask, 'Whose your partner' and get both killers/necros.

Kessobahn said:

So you're basically asking me to play nice and quiet to survive and thus give my team the benefit of a cf? Fuck that .. Still, cool role. Am I allowed to ask questions like: "what are the alts that you know in your faction", or "What is the alt of your partner?" and so on ..

also, can the player just decide not to enter SH at all to avoid answering my question?

And now Vengy happy to be a symp. Dibs and Veng on the same team will be exciting.

Meanas said:

Oh my sweet jesus....Finally I am a symp....

Tomorrow is a holiday here in the states. So I won't be on as much as I normally would...sigh...

Some more reaction to roles.
The Dude happy to be a finder. Looking forward to seeing how he goes. He's normally pretty impressive when he holds his nerve.

Shadow said:

ooohhh finder. Guess that means I need to stay alive. Usually pretty good at that as I play low key. Awesome. (watch I am a first night kill ) Initial thoughts, will try to find killer more as if I get converted I keep my role and play for necromancers. And I inherently hate killers. Anyway, looks like it should be fun! lets start

And from one of our Necrocmaners morgorth45

Fener said:

AWESOME! Its good to be bad.

At least he's thinking about his role, as he's asked this:

Fener said:

Since you didn't specify, I have to ask. Can the Necros become unkillable by putting themselves on the list each night?

I don't see why not. They become "unkillable" indeed but divide by three their recruiting capacity - and that's only until there's less than 18 players left, after that is save yourself or try to recruit.

Their call.

Yeah that was my thinking on the Necros as well.

From our other killer getting an early start on things, this one going out to Liosan as well I think, the traditional strategy I'd have to say.
Naturally Dibs will go loud and Stalker quiet.
Stalkerahn

Emurlahn said:

Heya,

I know the game hasn't started yet, but I wanted to get some strategy ideas out there quickly. This is supposed to be a noob friendly game, so I'd expect a lot of low posters in the line of how I usually play. If that is the case, it will make it guessing for them to find us so I think one of us should be a higher poster and one should lurk. Kinda a divide and kill approach. Let me know what you are thinking.

Also cheers JA. I'll try to wreak havoc and get revenge for you heh.

And now from Tapptose

Omtose said:

RI, nice... I've got a busy week so this definately is for the best.

I'm curious how much the threat of a cult will hold high-profile players back and screw with the killer's decision-making... trying to draw a kill is after all in favor of the necrophiliacs. Might well have a profound impact. That being said, I like the roles and presence of a cult.

As to my own goals... I'll try to be a tiny bit too obvious in my play for survival, thus hopefully attracting some attention from the nasties.
Of course, the plan is the first thing I usually don't live up to

Yeah damn board was down again. I'll be around for the next 3 or so hours, after that feel free to jump in and take over. We'll have a gap after you go to bed, but it shouldn't be a big deal. Only trouble is the late start almost enters the Modless zone, I'll have to make the sacrifice and get up at 7:30am my time...

Also, Gavin, if you have someone asking you for the spoiler heaven password, ask them first if they're willing to play too.

It would be good to have a backup in a game with so many players, until at least everyone has posted at least once. After that we enter modkill territory, we can let spectators in.
