Immaculate Rakean conception FTW!

A serious question for once -

Concernig Rake's parentage, I know MD is his Ma, but who actually is his Da?

Her first born are said to have no children. Though its speculated her first children all became elder gods.
Is burn one of her children? If so, then surely it follows so is every other sentinent planet....

As for Rakes father, I don't think anyone knows, I mean, check GotM, even K'rul thinks he's old, and K'rul is very old, so he's probably around as old as K'rul, though maybe a little younger, if the gods were lurking as elemental forces yet, can we count personalities as truly the same person after they evolve into the embodiment of elemental forces, gain sentinence I suppose.

Can we say that, since X was an elder god, that still counts as X being old, even though they weren't conscious, but just a force?

Mother Dark is his mother. Father Light is almost certainly his father, but fell behind on his tiste support payments.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Wait... so Rake's immaculate conception (no Father) isn't the jist of the matter anymore? I know Udinaas implies in RG that Rake, Silchas, and Andarist took action because they found out who their "father' was, but I thought that had more to do with the Andii as a whole, not MD's actual 3 sons.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

This thread makes absolutely no logical sense, some of the posts deserve to be deleted forever but when does anything get what it deserves...

It's nearly impossible to discuss Dasstor without mentioning how awesome he is at swording, and this inevitably leads to much brouhaha about him being the Ultimate One in the business, an assertion that no self-respecting Rake fanboy can agree with, which leads to this sword mess here.

If at least more was known about him, then his awesomeness wouldn't be limited to pretty much only swording.

But we do know about him. As someone (Dancer? Abyss) already said, we knew about him from page one of the book one. Already there was some badass aura around him:

Paran: "'The First Sword of Empire. Dassem Ultor. We heard it in the capital before we left. He's dead. Is it true? Is Dassem dead?

YOu get the feeling he's someone extremely important and highly skilled. I was looking forward to learn more about him...

OKAY PEOPLE, LISTEN UP!

Had a talk with CBV since I sensed he wasn't happy with all the sword and rake spam going on.

This thread is about Dassem and why he is so swordsome... sorry, awesome. Not an invitation to troll the thread.

So if you wish to continue the Rake vs Swordtor... sorry, Dassem Ultor debate take it up in a new thread or I will be deleting posts as spam.

SO THERE, YOU MAY CONTINUE!

I DON'T KNOW WHY I'M POSTING IN CAPS!

QUOTE Sure i admit Rake gave him the opportunity, it was part of his plan afetr all. but i still think that Das is the better swrdsman, does that mean that if it was to the death then he would have won, i'm not sure, Rake is more magically powerful, so the only person to answer that would be SE.
The Drum, a question for you. How is it that Dassem, being the superior swordsman you think he is, didn't manage to make Rake budge even an inch back? Surely he could have managed that much? And remember, Dassem fought with killing Rake in mind, while the latter didn't want to kill Dassem.

I definately believe Rake wanted to get inside Dragnipur. How he knew what was occuring in there is anyone's guess, but, his plan to "right an ancient and terrible wrong" recquired him to die like that. His stance was suggestive of that at the killing blow. As for Dassem being a better swordsman, I'm not sure, I don't think so, Rake is ancient and he is a very, very powerful Ascendent. Don't forget I think Rake was severly weakend by his imprisonment (burden) of Hood and the fact that he did not want to kill Dassem. But on a good day, if they both wanted to kill eachother, I'd like to think Rake was well above Dassem. Three Hundred thousand years experience, Seventh of the Seguleh, Soletaken Eleint and anyone who can bear the weight of Dragnipur has got to be above many a host, Dassem included . . . come on, enough said.

Oh, yeah, Dassem was pissed cause he beleived Rake would be trapped in the Nightmare that is Dragnipur, he had no idea of Rake's intentions, so he now believe's still, I think, that Rake may indeed still be trapped in there, hauling that Wagon of Burden. I don't think he knows what Rake actually did in Dragnipur, and so he is hell sad cause he beleives he has sent Rake to, well, interminable hell.

It seems like dassem is a beast, can we agree upon that? He is intense with the sword and a military genuis. I agree with what you say he created the malazan military. Dassem is just plain beast, and I'm pretty sure he ascended. Does it actually give any hard evidence to this fact? Does anyone know?

All the times he is referred to as Dessembrae. In the duel with rake the streets were lined with members of his cult and there is a specific line about them 'standing in front of their god' or something.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.

It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.
