Itkovian's final scene, personally. More so than Brukhalian's

I understood that brukhalian was walking into the trap because without his death their was no betrayal to punish. It made no sense to me but thats what I read.

This didn't make me gasp so much as pause and think about it.
HOC
"Monok Ochem paused, then cocked its head. 'Trull Senegar, you have not yet begun your tale, yet you already weep'
The Tiste Edur studied the bonecaster for a long moment, as the tears ran down his gaunt cheeks. 'I weep, Monok Ochem, because he(Onrack) cannot."
Just thinking about not being cut off from that side of life for all eternity is a very disturing thing for me. This passage is also the one that connvinced me that Trull was one of the deepest characters that I've read about in a long time. All too often fantasy characters are of the same cloth. Very few seem to be able to do what Trull can. Which is, most heroic character want to die for an idea or cause, but Trull lives on to fight and to do what is right at great personal and cultural cost. I am very interested to see how his story line plays out.

agreed, erikson's writing of trull is amazing. i may even say he's my favourite character of the books so far.

yea trull, and, at least for me, brys were both excellant characters because they were so...well...simple, but they considered everything. they didnt just do it, they thought about it, and reading through their thoughts was incredible.

I personally wouldn't call Brys or Trull simple. I think that they are moral. I supose in the world today that it is much easier to just follow along with what the majority say and think ( ie. I live in the Good ole US of A and right now I am very ashamed of my country for the way we are handling pretty much everything that we touch. But there are plenty of people here who think that what we are doing to the Iraqis, the environment, and I'm pretty sure little puppies is justified and right.) i think that Trull and Brys both show a moral strength that is beyond such considerations. Either being standing up to your people, who you love fiercely and unconditionally, or protecting your king and country while trying to balance your familial ties as with Brys. But then it is eay to admire people who stand up for their beliefs.
I'm really not trying to be confrontational. Sorry if I am.

lol, theres confrontation and theres discussion. forums are for discussion
the odds of everyone agreeing on everything are very slim, and in that scenario a forum would be very boring.
simple wasent really the best word, but rather (excepting their weapon skills) trull is JUST an edur, and brys is JUST a letharii (in terms of thoughts/opinions)

At the time I first read GoTM everything about SE's world was so damn cool!
Didn't really have any "WOW" moments in HoC ...

Spoiler
Lastly, of the many things I'm eagerly awaiting in future books, these have to be pretty close to the top:- A reunion between Silchas Ruin and Anomander Rake
- Their discovery of Andarist's death
- A confrontation (or ten) between Silchas and/or Rake and Scabandari Bloodeye.
- A massive Tiste Battle Royale - Andii vs Edur vs Liosan at the gates of Minas Tirith.

But could you imagine? Rake and Ruin leading the Andii, Scabandari leading the Edur, Osserc leading the Liosan, Dragons filling the sky *drool* ... maybe throw in Menandore, Sukuhl Enkadu, Sheltatha Lore, Envy and Spite, just to add a feminine touch
And then the winners take on the Jaghut and T'lan Imass in Round 2, with the K'Chain Chemalle and Forkrul Assail waiting in Round 3 :eek3:
OK someone stop me before I wet myself again ...

nice, but one thing, envy isnt tiste is she? nor is spite i dont think. another thing, jaghut and imass would be a walkover for someone like rake or osserc, and so would kerching chemales.... id like to see how a tiste would hold up against an assail tho

Envy isn't Tiste, but being Draconus' daughter, and having had a history with Rake I figured why not.
I think an Imass army would give the Tiste something to think about, especially with Silverfox and a handful of Bonecasters. The Jaghut? Well ... depends on which Jaghut are present
As for the K'chain Che'Malle

come on now, an army of tiste andii doesnt mean an army of rakes
the imass, jaghut, and kaychan were all powerful powerful peoples. (besides, the kaychan could just drop in troops with their sky keeps!!!)
theres a very interesting scene in MT, but since i dunno how to put in those spoiler things i wont type it out, hehe. suffice it say that the forkrul assail are cool.

i have read the proogue to mt, um i have been mistaken, i thought this would be one on ones, eg the best of the tiste against best of kaching chemmy etc.... i think in that case the riste would kick arse, but in an all on all, imass would probably beat tiste... if everyone had equal numbers, from what i understand, the kaching chemmy would win

well of course the kaychan would win, can anyone guess why? (skykeeps are so cool!!)

Enaglio nailed it for me (i was having a hard time deciding)
THAT did make me gasp. it's amazing how easy it is to become emotionally involved in Erikson's characters! makes it so hard to pick a favorite character or favorite scene.

All the jade giant stuff Heboric was dreaming about.
The book lay on my chest for a good five minutes while my whole outlook of the novels expanded and went in every direction imaginable. I'm still totally dazzled by this.

A Haunting Poem
I Scream
