When Pearl and Yostora Yil (sp?) were traveling the imperial warren they come across a crucified dragon. Has the one who committed this act been identified in the series? It seems like this would have been quite the task to carry out this deed. We know that elder gods have the power to kill dragons as evident with

Then again a soletaken is not an Eleint.

Nobody knows, but Erikson has claimed it's an essential part of the story's plot.

You also have to note that it's not "just" a dragon, it's an Ottataral Dragon. A being that is anathema to magic and the warrens. By all rights it shouldn't exist, but it may be a form of answer to the other dragons taking on aspects of the warrens. Meaning it adresses this situation and is supposed to create balance.

We still don't know though.

Someone awesome made an awesome thread about this wherein that person (who is/was awesome) linked a bunch of things and made smart and logical and awesome assumptions making an awesome explanation. And it was awesome.

But the bit I can remember from that is that it seems rather likely the Otataral dragon was crucified by Soletaken Eleint, based mostly on the dragon tracks left behind (and identified by Pearl) and by the sign left behind with the names of those who crucified it (the general idea being that feral dragons don't often leave sign-posts with their names on them around).

Uhm what sign? I don't remember that.

I think I remember it hanging on wood which we connect to a race not mentioned yet in the series as of DG.

It had a list of names including Draconus and K'rul, it's the first time we find out those two are Eleint Soletaken. The notice was written either near the dragon or in Kurald Liosanland, just before Pearl and Lostara had to run screaming away from the fires.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I think Draconus is a strong suspect, solely because he is

a ) linked to the Eleint
b ) not a nice person

Crap, I'm getting the list of who sealed SD with who crucified the otataral dragon mixed up.

As for who did it, it's probably the Eleint Soletaken, and Draconus is likely top of that group.

It sounds more probable that the Ottataral dragon is connected with K'rulls shaping of the warrens and certain dragons taking on the aspects of the warrens.

Some also speculate that the dragons exists because of something that happened in the elder times. More on that in MT.

The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"

I always thought it was the result of the dragons 'loosing their veins' or whatever they did in response to Scabby messing around, then got stuck on a stick when Killy and Mael picked on Scabby to death.

Could that be Kilmandaros? I kind of always took Killy to be sort of a big elder god simpleton, going around bopping people on the head. She seemed to be of lower intelligence/childlike, and she is the one who killed ole' one eye.

if the CG is elient/soletaken that could make sense, as that dragon was "chained" in the land that cg fell onto (imperial warren now). Though i know of no reason to believe the CG is soletaken/elient
