That actually sounded, to me, like some kind of prelude to what could happen to the doctor himself in the future. He talked about all the people who had died because of him and to an extent, I kind of agree. But it also seemed to me that if he did deserve punishment then might we not argue that he had been guilty of exactly what he accused the other guy of?

Indeed, I think that's what made it so interesting, and probably why the Doctor got so mad...it all hits so close to home...even though he did it so it wouldn't destroy reality, sealing the Time War and locking it out of time, essentially dooming two entire races to eternal hell is a very heavy thing to rest on you and does (in effect) make something of a War Criminal out of the Doctor, no matter how altruistic his intents are. The same is true of Jax on this episode, his experiments were to stop a long, grueling conflict. The same can be said of the original Kaled inhabitants of Skaro (pre-Daleks) who basically became Nazi's to stop a biological and nuclear war that was tearing their planet to shreds. It all just rang incredibly close to home for the Doctor on that front and during that one scene I just kept thinking "Time War, Time war, time war" in my head as the Doctor read Jax the riot act.

No, that was some Brooke guy, I think, I can't remember the name exactly, but it was definitely not Browder.

I'm REALLY curious what the darkening of the title sequences on each successive episode means...I thought I was nutters to have noticed it at first, but when you view them side by side it's clearly on purpose.

What think we?

I think that it is for shadowing. Just like at the end of the each of the episodes the doctor keeps asking the Ponds to come along on another adventure and they always want to go home. I think that he knows that they are going to die soon.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Indeed. That whole "People are going to notice we aren't aging" thing.

I'm just wondering if it's solely meant to foreshadow the Ponds leaving (which would make sense given the rate at which the titles are darkening AKA the Ponds exit in Ep 5 would be wholly black with white titles)

It was queen Nefertiti, not cleopatra.

Oh, and it wasn't a private space agency, but the Indian Space Agency.

i loved the visuals on Mercy,

thought the script was a bit cliche though.

But Smith did an excellent job with it regardless.

weakest ep so far for me, purely for its cliches.... with a bit more imagination i think it could have been outstanding. But still probably a solid 7/8 out of 10 at that.

Think this next episode is going to start one of the series-long arcs. Haven't seem anything obvious yet (example "The Silence" was something that was mentioned/shown almost from the get-go in whatever season that was.) Looking forward to ep. 4!

I wouldn't have thought so, given that 1) they've repeatedly claimed they wouldn't this season and 2) it looks like it's largely about focusing on the Ponds, in their second-last episode (so soon!)

Correction: Moffat said the season long arcs would not take precedence in each episodes, and if they are in there, then they would be secondary to the standalone nature of each story.

Case in point, we've already seen a few nuggets of season arcs for 7: Oswin and how either she or her descendant returns to be a companion, the further disappearing of the Doctor's reputation across the galaxy as people are made to forget him, how that will tie into the fall of the Eleventh ect. (which I believe will be the main Arc plot strands that features in each ep), the darkening of the titles sequences each week is leading to something.

So I actually think that this season will have stuff like Bad wolf or Vote Saxon or the Medusa Cascade in the background or scattered in dialogue (not hinging on the standalone episodes) like RTD era. It makes me believe that Moffat listened to us fans when we said we liked that!

Anyways, super jazzed for Saturday!

Fair enough - that does make sense and you're a better informed man than I on Moffat's utterances.

I'm still not convinced that the Fall of the Eleventh will be this season though.

QT: the Fall of the 11th.. Is this Smiths last yr as the Dr?

No, not yet. I think he'll either do one more full series (the 8th of NuWho) or a year of specials (like Tennant did), but I think he's defo in the waning years of his time as the character.

The Fall of the 11th most likely won't be his actual demise. At least not IMHO. And PG might be right in saying it won't happen this season...but personally I think the Fields of Trenzalore and the Fall of the 11th stuff will be during the 50th Anniversary next Christmas the tail end of S7.

I'm suddenly desperately confused. As I say, you know far more than me so maybe I missed something, but what indication is there that the 50th anniversary stuff will be part of season 7? Isn't the rest of it going to air early in 2013 and another series, or possibly some specials, going to be what's on in the second half of the year? It'd be kind of weird to spread out the broadcasting of the remaining nine episodes (Christmas special included) over more than a year.

S7 contains the 5 eps up to the ANGELS one, the Christmas ep, and 7 more eps next year (one after the other ending likely in Spring), the 50th will follow in November or December of 2013 (as far as I know)...It won't technically be Series 8 (from what I've heard, as Moffat has specifically talked about Series 7 and the 50th as one big long section of DW) but that doesn't mean that the storyline from the end of S7 won't tie into the 50th...in fact I'm pretty sure that the last few eps will cliffhanger into the 50th...and that's kind of why I think that the Fields of Trenzalore and the Fall of the 11th will happen in S7.

anyways, yeah Moffat has been cryptic about the 50th, but he's never talked about Series 8 and the 50th, it's always Series 7 and the 50th. I think proper Series 8 will be a separate entity from the 50th, airing in 2014.

Fair enough. That makes sense, because (1) if Tennant leaving was worthy of a special special on its own, then the 50th certainly is, and (2) given the fairly slow production time caused by Moffatt's Sherlock commitments, there probably wouldn't be time for a full season to be produced between the end of whenever this finishes and the next, unless they were to start making it while there were still episodes airing, something I find unlikely.

Anyway, the episode just now... it was okay. The threat is vastly anticlimactic, but the Pond stuff has me vastly hyped for next week.

:) :p :p  :twoguns: :twoguns: :p :(

Tonight's ep THE POWER OF THREE.

It was a slow start (which I believe was the point), and once it got going it was decent enough...BUT...I was never frightened by the cubes, nor worried that anyone of the main cast was going to get into trouble VIA them. I'm weirded out that Rory's Dad seemingly has nothing else to do but sit and watch the cube for 365 days or whatever...as that just seems...excessive...and if everyone was going to see them come alive anyways, what was the point of setting Rory's dad to that whole 20 minute plot strand where he watches one...bad writing?

And we are given the DOCTOR WHO universe version of the Inhibitors. An alien sect bent on stopping the human "plague" from spreading to the stars. Right. So question. If these Chaka creatures operate outside of time as they mention...why not bring the cube invasion in the past when humanity could do nothing about them and the subsequent the heart attacks?

I liked the Chaka guy, he was properly villainous but ends up with almost a custodial role as a hologram? Weak. Super weak even.

Now, the Ponds relationship with the Doctor explored. Um did anyone else watch this episode and think to themselves "Wow, Amy and Rory are a bit selfish?" I mean here they have freely chosen to go with the Doctor in the past in the name of adventure, but when he needs them and the like they "have their own lives and jobs" ect.? It just seemed weird to me. Again, bad writing? They acted un-Pondish in that regard.

LOVED the nod to Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart. As for the inclusion of UNIT though...A. UNIT without Red beret's is NOT, I repeat NOT UNIT and B. They had the dodgiest dialogue of the whole ep, and were treated rather poorly. I digress...fanboy snarkery. (Note: Best representation of UNIT in NuWho....easily THE PLANET OF THE DEAD and Malcom!)

All in all one of the weaker eps of the series so far for me. Actually, no, it's easily THE WEAKEST this Series. It was still entertaining once it properly got going. But it never made too much sense, or avoided gaping plot holes.

Basically the first 20-25 minutes seemed like much filler.

It also wraps up fairly simply with a quick wave of the screwdriver and fixing of everyone's cardiac arrest...a little too easy.

The good stuff was Stewarts daughter, the Doctor's chat with Amy by the Thames, and Brians little speech at the end about how they should go with the Doctor. I also liked the Doctor's speech to Brian about what happened to his past companions.

Next week's ANGELS Ep should be a cracker though!
