Yeah really looking forward to finding out how she gets from there to being the new companion? I also think Amy/Rory relationship issues will be a factor in there needing to be a new companion. Unless one of them dies but I truly hope that doesn't happen!

fixed for accuracy.

And re Oswin - could be a Dalek infiltration model that reprograms itself?

And also - re wiping the Doctor from the Dalek group memory - between that and staging his own death last series, guess Moffat really is committing to the idea of the Doctor trying to step back into myth.
meh. Link was dead :(

I reckon, given the strong theme memory has played in Moffatt's run so far, and that on top of the mind-wipe, the word 'remember' was used very pointedly twice - 'make them remember you' to Amy at the start and Oswin's last line - that we could see it playing a part in this season, and that everyone forgetting him could be a bad thing for the Doctor.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Im getting a kick out of all the Torchwood ref there have been in Eccelstons and (early) Tennant shows so far. I havent heard one TW ref in what Im taking as Season 5 from 2010 7-8 epi in.

I think smith's Doctor has only mentioned Torchwood once ever...

It was an invention of RTD when he ran the show, so it's much more present in his seasons.

Mind you, Jack Harkness was meant to be in A Good Man Goes To War, but the filming schedule clashed with Torchwood: Miracle Day.

I'll tell you what I liked about Asylum, thinking back on it - Moffatt remembering that you don't have to make things complicated to be clever. Rather than the ideas explosion that's been increasingly characterising his run to date, there were a few simple but very strong ones holding up the episode...

The Movie Poster approach seems to be working, or at least did for this episode.

The Oswin story threw me off, but
Spoiler

Good to see it back.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Actually the way I see it, it's really easy to save her. Just find her before the Starliner goes down on the Asylum planet....

wait...

fuck...without her help The Doctor, Rory and Amy would never get rescued...

shit.

I guess he's going to have to find her WAY earlier in her timeline knowing her eventual fate?

Or....or....she somehow escaped the Asylum planet before it blew?

I don't want her to live another River Song life where the Doctor knows her fate and we all know where and when she dies...that would be cheap...so I hope she escaped the planet somehow...and found a way back to being human.

Are we sure it's Oswin who's the new companion? I mean, as far as I can tell it's the same actress, but does it neccessarily have to be the same part? I think I saw that the new companion's name was Clara?
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Re: Clara, this name could be misdirection in the early buzz, as Moffat WAS (after all) able to hide her debut from rabid DW fans.

I'm pretty sure she will either be Oswin, or some facet thereof (downloaded before Dalek-ism, saved beforehand or after, consciousness revived into a new body)

the other part being that they released an early bit of dialogue a while back of what the new companion first said when she met the Doctor and it was "Now come rescue me and show me the stars"...which Oswin said in ASYLUM. So I think it's safe to say it's her.

Though there is a rumor that the companion will be a present day relative of Oswin...hmmm...

Oswin made me go and find out who the actress was. And then to my relief I discovered she will be the new assistant. I was not unhappy at all.

I can def see a difference in Smiths version compared to Ecc/Ten.

Yeah.

read it somewhere else, but thought this summed it up quite well:

Tennant's Doctor took time to convince everyone in the room he was the smartest one in the room,
Smith's Doctor simply knows it, and doesn't feel the need to prove it.

Nothing I'm sure I've just never watched it. I didn't have enough interest or BBC at the time for that matter once it quit playing on Sy Fy sometime during S3. How many companions were after Rose? I know their was an older lady after.
