Tangential...because I just discovered it...and I still love this song...

The brunette in the video, the one in the pink and blue spandex? Laura Jayne Smith.

Matt Smith's sister. Crazyness!

That must have made it awkward for a young man when that video was fucking everywhere.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

The new pack of Audio Plays which feature David Tennant back as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble have been released....and are VERY popular...if my attempts to get on the site to retrieve my per-ordered download of the set are any indication...the site is being absolutely HAMMERED today.

So, I've listened to the first of the three new Ten/Donna Audio Drama stories TECHNOPHOBIA by Matt Fitton.

Verdict?

Amazeballs. Basically Big Finish has always managed to capture the best of Classic and NuWho. The teams are always able to come up with stories that would fit neatly into the RTD-era Doctor Who, and TECHNOPHOBIA is very much that. A clever, compelling story with a few twists and turns that isn't out of place slotted right into the Series 4 Ten and Donna adventures.

How about David Tennant and Cathrine Tate back as The Doctor and Donna? PERFECTION. Honestly, it's like they never left the roles. They are completely amazing from moment one, the old cameraderie, the banter, it's all there.

I can't express how much I enjoyed this. Though I like Steven Moffat's DW (but for different reasons), I was alwqays more partial to RTD and as a result, these audios are like somehting that was missing from my fandom.

Can't wait to listen to the other two eps...and there is a long behind the scenes portion too.

I hope they'll do more of these and I hope that they will bring in Matt Smith and possibly Amy (and Rory...if Darvill can get time away from LoT) in to do some as well, considering the success these seem to be.

If you've been missing DOCTOR WHO while it's been off the air over the last few months (and forthcoming months)...here is your fix right here!

Listened to the other two episodes.

TIME REAVERS was a fun, and interesting ep...but I WILL say that the voice modulation used for the bad guy was overly screechy and annoying and grating (and sometimes hard to understand). The story was very good, but that bit of audio annoyance took me out of it a bit. Ten and Donna were spot on again though.

The last of the three was DEATH AND THE QUEEN, which was excellent in form and execution. Another story, very much like the first one that had a few nice twists and turns but never too over the top to get in the way of Tennant and Tate shining away as these characters...plus this one had Alice Krige in a supporting role as well.

All in all a FANTASTIC set that was well worth the $25 for the download.

So, episodes 1 and 2 of the new spinoff show CLASS (which takes place at Doctor Who-famous Coal Hill School; where the first Doctor got his companions and Clara used to teach) was a great start. It's basically a mixed breeding of a grown up Sarah Jane Adventures, with Torchwood. And the Docotr has a cameo in ep 1 (Capaldi's Doctor)....and another non-present cameo where the TARDIS arrives to save two people in a flashback and it's the 9th/10th Doctor's theme which plays (in my head it was David Tennant who saved them) over the scene....I THINK Patrick Ness did this so that if he ever can get Tennant to do a cameo as his Doctor....he can. Which I'm fine with.

The leads are all solid in their own way, and there is more scares and gore than I thought there would be. It's DEFINITELY aimed at older kids and not the Sarah Jane set. More like BUFFY in tone than anything else I can think of.

Anyways, liked it a lot. Will keep watching.

In my defence, I was out at FANTASTIC BEASTS, otherwise I'd have beat ya to it.

Capaldi has confirmed he's leaving after the current season and Christmas special,

so Christmas 2017 episode will be his last

Shame, i've quite liked Capaldi. Hasn't quite hit the heights that Matt Smith has (IMO) but that's more to do with script than ability i'd say. When he's had good stuff to work with, he's been tremendous.
meh. Link was dead :(

I'm sad that Capaldi has not been given his proper due under Moffat and we won't see how Chibnall would have handled him.

On the bright side, new creative team and new Doctor for series 11!

So who do you fancy to replace him?

Pure wishlisting:

Patrick Stewart (not likely due to his age and the time commitment)
Benedict Cumberbatch (Ditto on time commitments i'd say)
Ben Wishaw could work (Q in Daniel Craig's Bond films)

I like Ben wishaw or Richard Aoyade, or Patterson Jospeh if they can get him off TIMELESS.

I want Tilda Swinton. Or Idris Elba.

But it isn't likely to be a big name. Generally the BBC have liked to surprise us, and in any case they have budget issues a bit.

Hayley Atwell would be a superb Dr Who.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

No, she'd be awful. I don't get why people like her.

If the have to choose a woman, I'd accept ONLY Olivia Coleman.

Haley Atwell's great, but I don't really see her as Doctor Who.
