Okay, something that I'm confused about in Kill The Moon. When Clara is broadcasting to the Earth, she talks about killing the creature or letting it hatch. However, I don't think that she actually explained that the moon was a fucking egg at any point. I'd imagine most humans are asking themselves, "Wot fookin creature are ya talkin' about, crazy lady?"

EDIT: Also, her voting system leaves the half of the Earth facing away from the moon without any say.

I could watch a whole episode of Jenna Coleman running down a tunnel in slow-motion with explosions going off behind her.

I really like GrumpyDoc. The last 2, while different, were both "Wow, I love humanity!" and always willing to step in and save everyone. The fact that Capaldi is more unpredictable and just doesn't get humans is pretty fun. He will change (he has to after the verbal lashing he got!) but I'm enjoying something a bit different.

That's precisely where I come from with it too. And in essence, if you were two thousands years old, somewhat prescient with a brilliant brain, I think Capaldi's Doctor's reaction (whilst more grumpy and less "nice") is much more realistic to how such a being would react to comparitively small and stupid humans.

I'm pretty sure the implication is that we gust donut see the part of the broadcast where she speicfies the problem.

And yeah her voting system is flawed, but I guess on the fly it's the best she comes up with.

With the exception that he likes saving no one over the years more than humans. I'm not saying he carrot be grumpy, but the compassion is not present currently. I'm convinced it will be, but for the time being he's TOO alien and cold to be the Doctor who has spent 11 incarnations saving humans.

Hell yeah. She's ordinarily a very fetching young lass, but in tonight's episode (Orient Express) - YOWZA!!! :) :smoke: :p

EDIT: late to the party about last week's episode (Kill the Moon), but that right there was some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen in Dr Who.
Peter Capaldi is awesome, but that plot was just absolute utter drivel. :p

Sombra, DOCTOR WHO has never been about correct science. The plot is fine. Giant space dragon egg? Since we've never seen/investigated a giant psace dragon egg, I'm perfectly fine with the handwavium of how one works.

Last nights ep MUMMY ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS is easily my second fave of the season so far after LISTEN. Wonderful throughout, and the Doctor is FINALLY beginning to act more like the heroic Doctor we know. LOVED. LOVED. LOVED it.

Fair point. We'll see how they develop him in time I suppose - I'm not sure where last night's episode left me in terms of that.

I was a bit "meh" about last night. The feeling of claustrophobia created by them all being trapped in one carriage (for the second half) with the Foretold was pretty neat, but Clara's whole leaving/not leaving was just far too wishy-washy and lacked any impact for me really.

"Can I talk about planets now?" was a personal favourite giggle moment.

When was the last time the show killed off a companion? Really dead, fixed point in time dead, etc.
I think Clara has had a brainstorm on how to 'fix' the doctor. And I suspect that it's not going to work out well for her.

Yeah the change of heart seemed to be more than just "actually I might miss this if I stop doing it." I think she has a plan.

Got to agree with Sombra - she ROCKED that dress!

Also I thought the mummy effects were excellent, and the fact that the Doctor took it upon himself to be the next victim was a great touch. Some compassion showing through at last as QT said.

Gus sounds a lot like Max from the Titanic Christmas special. Too lazy to look up the dates.

Judging by reactions here, I'd guess that Capaldi is the most polarizing of the Doctors?

I really liked this episode.

This episode felt A LOT like Classic Doctor Who to me, just with updated score and modern effects. Right down to the Doctor offering Jelly Babies to a passenger, and the sarcophagus that isn't a sarcophagus...this could have been a 4th Doctor story.

Wow, two weeks in a row with solid eps! FLATLINE was another cracker! Writer Jaime Mathieson (who weorte last weeks ep too) is an utterly amazing DW writer. He understand exactly how to do them up right. Proper creepy villains in this with the Boneless, and some great character stuff from Clara, Riggsy, and the janitor guy. Capaldi has been winning for me for two straight eps now. Also, there is some dark stuff going on with Clara and it gets heavier with each ep.

Yeah that was good, though the "Adams Family" bit threw me right out just cos it looked so ridiculous... It was great to see Clara take on the "lead role" with her managing to think like the Doctor and utilise her own strengths and intelligence for when she could no longer communicate with him.

{confirmation bias}

I could very well be seeing a pattern where one doesn't exist. But...

She's becoming more like him.

Go back to Deep Breath and the short speech, "I'm the Doctor. I've lived over two thousand years and not all of them were good. I've made many mistakes. And it's about time I did something about that."

Davros telling Ten, "The man who abhors violence, never carrying a gun. But this is the truth Doctor; you take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons. Behold your children of time transformed into murderers."

{/confirmation bias}

Excellent episode. Only 3 more to go though. :)

And again a very 'classic Who' feel to the whole thing - one off (hopefully) monsters of the week. Few deaths. Quite grim.

Good stuff.

Someone I know was commenting that with the whole S4 Davros speech about the Doctor turning compaions into weapons, and then the theme this season with Twelve being AGAINST soldiers...I think he's finally realized that he's slowly not only turning Clara into a cold soldier-y weapon, but a OFFICER in fact (one who is very Hurt Locker-getting off on the excitement of it)...much closer in fact to the Twelve we intially saw in Ep 1 or 2...and now after he's softened a bit he's noticing it in Clara and it bothers him. My two cents.

Also, I liked that Clara popped the sonic out like Eleven used to do...Twelve doesn't pop it out ever.

So Missy is hearkening back to THE BELLS OF ST. JOHN when she put Clara in touch with Eleven the first time...she's got a plan...which is very Madame Kovarian of her...but what? We've already done the "train someone to kill the Doctor" in River...so what will they do to Clara?

@ Gnaw, technically there are FOUR episodes left including the Christmas special! :)

It's hearkening back to the 'Am I a good man' question in the early eps. She performed well as being the Doctor by being pragmatic-to-the-point-of-callousness with the 'on balance' thing. And seeing that, from an outsider's perspective, shook him - he's still not sure if being a good Doctor means being a good person. As well as, I suspect, making him sad that, like others have said, she's becoming more like him. Being 'the Doctor' took her innocence.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.
