First off, I am a geezer compared to most of you and this list certainly reflects it. Plus I have been exploring 50s-60s jazz lately, so this is going to look very schizo.
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti, IV
It's a tie. It has to be a tie. And the album in between was none too shabby either. Oh, and I saw them in '77. It was like standing in the face of an angry god.
John Coltrane - Love Supreme
This is the epitome of heart and soul, of thought and inspiration. He left us far too soon but we will always have this.
Rush - A Farewell to Kings
This whole era of Rush is a place I return to again and again but this is the keeper. Two of their greatest epics and three furious rockers.
Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
Raunchy, dirty, filthy beasts that let just a little light shine through.
The Who - Who's Next
Sheer unmitigated power and lyrical brilliance.
The Kinks - The Kink Kronikles
Proof that Ray Davies is one of the best songwriters in rock
Bruce Springsteen - Live at Hammersmith Odeon, London '75
Because I couldn't settle on any studio disc and this is just a force of nature
Stevie Ray Vaughan - In Step
The greatest white bluesman and this is where he lays it all on the line
Muddy Waters - Hard Again
No blues got deeper than Muddy
Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream
I would list this for the crushing wonder that is Even Less but Wilson never lets up even after that height.
Charles Mingus Sextet with Eric Dolpy - Live at Cornell '64
There are mysteries here it will take me a lifetime to fathom and improvisation that is breath-taking
Jacqueline du Pré - Elgar Cello Concerto
Three instruments that fascinate me to no end: a heavily distorted electric guitar, a standing acoustic bass, and the cello - the most melancholy instrument on earth. And this, this is the height of melancholy. Elgar wrote the piece after WWI and recovering from illness. There is a dual theme of sadness and redemption that permeates this music, and du Pré just freaking nails it.

Nightwish- a defining moment in metal.
Yes! Most people I know hate that album. "Too operatic - not metal at all!" Personally, it's my second favourite album by them. Passion and the Opera, Gethsemane and Sleeping Sun are just masterpieces. A shame Ghost Love Score isn't on it, but you can't have everything.
Mine are, in no particular order:
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins
Just brilliant. Smashing Pumpkins are an island - completely original and unable to be imitated. Their best album, followed closely by Siamese Dream.
Black Holes And Revelations - Muse
Just like Smashing Pumpkins, breathtakingly original, and with stunning vocals by Matt Bellamy.
The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden
A metal staple. Defined 80s heavy metal, and set the benchmark for most of the 80s (until glam rock became popular, and doomed heavy metal to relative obscurity).
Appetite For Destruction - Guns 'n' Roses
When most people think of 80s music, songs like Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine and Paradise City start playing in their head. A timeless rock classic.
Slippery When Wet - Bon Jovi
The ultimate anthemic rock album.
Nightfall in Middle-Earth - Blind Guardian
A retelling of the Silmarillion in song. Sounds quite odd, but works really well, and captures the atmosphere brilliantly, I think, with epic choruses a la Freddie Mercury and his voice-layering. When Sorrow Sang, a song about Beren and Luthien, is it's crowning moment. This choice is my inner nerd showing, i guess.

High Voltage - AC/DC
This album introduced me to hard rock, and made me instantly fall in love with the genre.
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Just genius. The "Beatles of heavy metal", to quote Rolling Stone.
Once - Nightwish
Simply for the fact that Nemo and Ghost Love Score are on here. Ghost Love Score is the definition of "epic". Tarja Turunen is a brilliant vocalist - shame she left the band.
Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
I don't even need to explain why this is awesome.
Favourite song of all time is ...And Then There Was Silence by Blind Guardian. 14 minutes just dripping with awesome. It's the battle of Troy in song btw haha.

I am sorry, but this list is invalidated by the last entry. It would have to be All the World's a Stage or Rush in Rio, or the bootleg Rush in the Black Forest, a soundboard that has the complete Cygnus X-1/Hemispheres.

Picking 10 albums is a bit tricky, but I'll try and narrow it down. These are in no particular order:
A Perfect Circle - "Thirteenth Step"
Absolutely fan-fucking-tastic album. Personally I'm more a fan of Maynard's work with APC than Tool, and it's a shame they're on hiatus.
Pink Floyd - "The Wall"
Shouldn't need much explanation.
Nightwish - "Once"
The epitome of epic.
Lacuna Coil - "In A Reverie"
This was one of my first forays into metal, and will always be a fav. Their second last release, Comalies, comes close to beating this one out though.
Radiohead - "OK Computer"
It may already have been mentioned, but it does make my list.
Nightwish - "Oceanborn"
These guys are quite possibly my favourite band for a reason. I like how many of the songs aren't such a clean quality compared to later releases, and you really hear the range of Tarja's voice.
System of a Down - "Toxicity"
Their best work by FAR. I hope they'll get back together one day.
Metric - "Old World Underground, Where Are You Now"
I've only recently (last 6 months) become a huge fan of Metric. Emily Haines is a superb vocalist and it's easy to see why they're becoming quite popular in Canada.
Matthew Good Band - "Beautiful Midnight"
The list needed some Canadian content.
The band may not be at the top of my favourites list, but I truly enjoy all the songs here unlike some of the cds released by bands I much prefer.
Dream Theater - "Awake"

This list leaves off many of my favourite artists, but it's because there's always a song or two I'm not a huge fan of on their albums. Honourable mentions must go to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I love their music, but don't know enough about this or that album to add it to the list.

Exit stage left is there for personal reasons (a great time in my life when it came out) as far as the BEST live rush (bootleg or commercial) Snakes and Arrows live far surpassed all. Are you on TRF?

Are those all Rush albums, Bubba?
Rush is cool because they heavily influenced Coheed and Cambria. Otherwise, not a huge fan of Geddy Lee's voice - kick ass musicians though...
Incidentally, I could NEVER pick my ten favorite albums. So hard to decide, as my tastes have changed and evolved so much; and I have so much love for so many different bands, from so many different points in my life, that it would invariably lead to constant amendments on my part as I thought of other deserving candidates.

Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys
- I adore the harmonics of the Beach Boys. God Only Knows, Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B. I could listen to this every day.
Sergeant Peppers & Abbey Road - Beatles
- A day in the life, sergeant peppers, when I'm 64, with a little help, Something, Octopus' Garden, Here Comes the Sun, & the Medley. I mean, seriously, its the Beatles.
Melancholie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins
- It has to be by far my favorite alternative album ever. 33, Tonight, Tonight, Bullets with Butterfly Wings, etc. etct. Fantastic album.
The Wall - Pink Floyd
- The best of Pink. Easily.
Nevermind- Nirvana
- Changed the face of rock 'n roll in the 1990's. Fantastic from start to finish.
Thriller - Michael Jackson
- Thriller, Billy Jean, & Beat It = awesome
Under the Table and Dreaming - Dave Matthews Band
- Warehouse, Typical Situation, Dancing Nancies, Pay For What You Get, The Best of What's Around, Ants Marching, & Lover Lay Down. DMB at its most romantic and creative.
The Chronic - Dr. Dre
- Ain't nothin but a G thang baby... this album set the U.S. on fire and made gangsta-rap huge in the U.S.
Bringin Down the Horse - The Wallflowers
- Their first cd, and you can listen to it straight through. The songs meld beautifully together for smooth and cool album.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Imposible to make a list since since it will always be to heavely influence be what you loved most in your teens and early 20ies. It just sticks with you no matter if you hear something better later on, you will still drag these albums out when in a mood.
Since i have never been big fan of any band/group/singer especially i never really heard many full albums, since it was way to often i only liked 1 song from it.
There has only few exceptions to this and few others that came close. These are the only 2 albums where i wouldnt skip any numbers and wouldnt mix them for any reason, they are ment to be heard in the sequence they are recorded.
The Final Cut by Pink Floyd.
Bad out of Hell by Meat Loaf.
Others that i think have made some great music includes "Queen" , "U2" , "Santana" and many more.
Not much i wont listen to but i sure hope that Rap music fades out soon or they start shooting each other up again.

Let's see...limiting it to one album per band:
TOOL - Ænima - mindblowing...n'uff said.
Black Sabbath - Masters of Reality - every song is a classic
Skinny Puppy - VIVI Sect VI - amazing album, amazing show
NIN - Pretty Hate Machine - changed the way I listened to music
Motörhead - Ace of Spades - the ultimate fusion of rock, punk and metal
Autechre - Tri Repetae ++ - ambient drum and bass electronica at its best
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger - I never get tired of listening to this album
Front 242 - Front by Front - just 'cuz I love those crazy Belgians!
Dethklok - The Dethalbum - don't laugh...a parody of a death metal band that is better than a lot of real death metal bands out there!
Massive Attack - Mezzanine - dark, moody...cool
I'm sure half of these would change, depending on my day/mood/chemically altered state
