I quoted from the special rules (I think it is F6 o something).

Unless a player's PM states differently, there's a fixed order of resolution of actions: Guard, Find, Heal, Recruit, Kill.
So, he would kill a newly inaugurated recruit and lose his powers, cause MA's recruit has no special timing, nor has his own kill.

I had to look back to see if I made the right ruling, too
It's a nasty little trap, but then, the Julii had a perfect starting package. Recruiter, back-up recruiter who could survive through cannabalization, and a pocket healer/killer.
Sleek, effective, everything in one, no dead weight. They deserved a nasty little limitation like this. Getting Ampelas as a bonus was just gravy
