I'm just reading through RotCG for the first time and I've been noticing some similarities between ICE's characters and SE's.
For example, Traveller and Ereko can't help but remind me of Icarium and Mappo. Especially the seen where they meet Kyle and co for the first time. It just screams to me of the the time when I&M first met Crokus and Fiddler.
I've noticed a lot of people likening Kyle to Crokus but I first found him to be a bit more like Bottle (Seemingly harmless kid with a great power that he doesn't know too much about) and then after he leaves the CG he reminds me more of Redmask (not really knowing why he's got some powerful guardians but determined to do something major).
Meh. Maybe I'm just imagining it all, but does anyone else see the similarities?

You are not alone on seeing the Icarium/Mappo-Traveller/Ereko similarities.

Storo and his squad were like the Ninth in the BB's. Silk was the sneaky, shifty uber-mage, and Storo was the struggling leader. And so on.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

And ICE's Laseen was a carbon copy of SE's Laseen.

I reckon Urko's character was very poorly done. Nowhere near irritable enough...

Possum/Pearl? Possum seemed to become more like Pearl; he just wasn't quite as smug and irritating.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I agree with that...Pearl was in a league of his own in terms of punch-his-face-in-ness.
