It's a valid interpretation considering it's a retaliation or kneejerk reaction. Also "Watch out, Jesus is following you" doesn't have the same ring to it.

Arguably the Malazan characters have at least as much existence as I would argue the Judeo-Christian deity has (and all the others for that matter); inasmuch as a couple of guys have written books about them. They could be said to exist as concepts in the imaginations of SE, ICE and us lot. For non-readers and/or people who have never heard of them they have no existence whatsoever.
The big "but" here is that this existence is not ascribed to have any bearing on the universe at large beyond some of what we say and do (and SE, ICE and their publisher's bank balances

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Beyond what christians say and do and the churches bank balance the same can be said about the bible. It's just that christians can say and do some dangerous things, like "I don't worry about global warming because I know that the rapture is coming real soon".

Or the equally sensible "Three words - Evolution is a lie".
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Jesus loves you is a conceptual metaphor that makes people feel calm and happy. There is no god is a sensationalist scare campaign with debatable political consequences.
I was under the impression that the point being discussed was something along the lines of false advertising or some such. Why else would we debate whether or not 'there is no God' is fact or otherwise? Your point is another discussion entirely.
'Jesus loves you' is a propaganda slogan, and it pisses me off every time I see it, because of the bullshit campaign it represents, and the obvious political consequences. If I remember correctly from the beginnings of this thread however long ago that was, those who bought the ad spaces felt that a lot of people out there might be like us and immensely relieved to see their beliefs becoming more 'normal'.

Well we were talking about triple G's beliefs as he resurrected the thread. His correction of Morgoth was clearly wrong tho and not worth discussing.
The crux was whether "there is no god" implies more "belief" than "there is probably no god".

No, MY crux was that "there is no god" implies factual knowledge; "I don't believe there's a god" implies belief (or lack thereof) in the absence of factual evidence.

Ya but since there's quite obviously no available evidence for god, "there is no god" implies that the strength of your conviction indicates a belief, whereas "there is probably no god" implies that you have examined the available evidence and drawn the logical conclusion. Morgoth only ever bothers to post when he's right.

The genius of this post is
1) He's right
2) He's catty
3) He's probably drunk.

Yep, and that's that cold iron beats hot iron.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
