for my money, anomander is the best with a sword. he is only beaten when he allows it. he is good enough, in fact, to actually manipulate dassem to the point of doing what he does in the fashion that rake desires. where does conan the barbarian fit into this mix? if he can take krom, surely wolverine wouldnt stand a chance, bub.

Just a thought but did Rake need Dassem not because of who he is, but because of what he carried i.e. the sword grief. Darist said in HoC that "The sword demands a singular will in its wielder. With such a will, it cannot be defeated." Rake would have known this since he made the sword. Hence he would know that in Dassem's hands, he could not be defeated.

Well, nobody really knows. Rake didn't need Dassem to kill him. Nay, Rake could've scratched himself with Dragnipur and ended up with the same fate. So, the fight was utterly pointless. But I'd rather not get into another 30 pages worth of "Dassem/Rake is better than Rake/Dassem," arguments.

If it were up to me though, I'd tear the bastard off of Mother Dark's teat and make them fight again. No invested weapons(well, maybe unbreakability and never needing to hone the edge, I guess), and no magery. THEN we'd see who the better man was.

Still think Duiker is one of the hardest men we've met. Dudeman had to be over 100 years old(he did consort with Dancer and Kellanved way back when), and he was still making heaps of 7C's soldiers. That old dust fart earned a spot in my heart, from DG and on. ;_;

I do hope Dust of Dreams has some relevant sword confrontations. Tool and Brys seem like likely candidates to show off their prowess. (not saying they fight each other just they may take someone on) Icarium seems likely...

Does it seem likely Skinner will show up? I think most of the rest of the list are accounted for elsewhere... Unless they are setting up some sort of Dassem - Icarium fight. (not really a whole lot left for Dassem to prove... no need for him to cut down average characters)

Silchas Ruin should be in it, Icarium, Kallor/Skinner perhaps, Brys perhaps Dassem but Id say he might not reappear until book 10.

Earlier on (that's like last year or January) it was mentioned that Karsa is 8 feet tall, and apparently confirmed by SE, but I can't find any description in the books that support it.

When Kalam meets him, he gauges him at over 7 feet tall. If it had been 8, wouldn't he have said so? Unless Kalam can't count past that of course.

Samar Dev mentions that though Icarium was not as tall as Karsa, he somehow managed to look him in the eye without seeming to look up, or something like that. Me thinks 7-foot Icarium would have a hard time doing that if Karsa is really 8 feet. That's like a head or more taller.

Remember that bunch of Edur led by Trull's brother in that ship? The ones Karsa butchered? He's said to be a head taller than them. Either they are all at least 7 feet (very unlikely), or Karsa is not 8 feet.

His sword is almost as long as he's tall, and a near 8-foot sword, with a monster behind it, would break pretty much any opponent.

Edur, Andii and Lison are 7 feet tall, so are Jaghut. Can't remember FA's height but I think they are between 7 and 9 feet tall.

I was one of the people constantly bringing up the Karsa height question, we had half a dozen threads on the subject and they all claimed that he was somewhat taller than 7 feet. He's around 8 feet but not 9 feet.

Personally, this really annoys me as many of his feats, especially the early ones in HOC just doesn't make sense, no matter how dense his bodymass is and whether he has a warren or not. He and his horse can jump a city wall, he's heavy/strong enough to knock down a city gate/tower, he can run through masonry, he can wrestle the Deragoth, etc.

He's called a giant for christs sake! I want him to be between 9 and 12 feet at least, but apparently that's not Eriksons idea of the Teblor people.

Lets begin debatting Ereko's size next

No matter what SE says about this issue, I imagine Karsa to be at least 12 feet tall. His shoulders are about 5 feet wide, I'd say. Maybe more, but I feel like Bairoth's shoulders were probably as big as an average sized human (5'9" or so, if Bairoth was about 10 - 11 ft, since he is shorter than Karsa. Delum I'd give 12' 3/4" to 13 feet tall, but narrower than both, but not much less than Karsa.

I'd say Ereko was taller than Karsa, but not by too much. Maybe on par with Delum, who was tall for a Teblor. Maybe closer to 13 feet than Delum Thord is.

How tall did SE describe Calm/Serenity from HoC? I am thinking he was a little vague on it, during her description. And, are those the only two Assail we've seen so far?

Who thinks we'll be introduced to another badass Swordslinger in the next few? Finally met Blues and Skinner, we've got Brys on his way back. Possibly Trull(rumor started by me). We had Rell for only a small amount of time, which is depressing. And all the other badasses we've seen. The 2nd, Mok, Tool, so on and so forth.

Did anyone else think Gruntle was a badass with his double cutlass action? I dont remember anyone walking away from a confrontation with him. Even before he became Trake's Mortal Sword.

I think it was Samar Dev who described Karsa as being half again as tall as human.....not the exact quote but something to that effect and as broad.

He probably looks like the hulk minus the anger now a days.
