I've decided that the best swordsman has to be, hands down...

I never thought Wolverine was all that awesome. I was a big Storm, Collosus, and Gambit fan, but no one held a candle to Collusus' little sister Magik.
Probably why I am not a Rake fanboy.

Hey I was the coolest kid at the comic book conventions. The best thing about Magik as I am sure all you know is that she carried a sword.....she would totally own wolverine....c'mon a sword.

blasphemy. Wolverine has faced swords before. Whoever this upstart 'Magik' (gay name btw) is, he would eviscerate her if he was so inclined. It is known.

Your obviously not enough of a nerd to know the truth. So sad. If you weren't so ordinary she would take her soulsword and exterminate you on the backswing through wolverine. It will be ok.
Which reminds me a sword that destroys magical beings would not be a bad idea in Malaz universe.
ps Other than Akyronis why doesnt anyone have a staff? SE and ICE have something against staves? Hetan needs to ask this on the next round of questions. Its imperative

Kiska has a staff, yes?
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Going a bit offtopic here, but I remember bits and pieces of the new mutants slipping into the danish x-men comics. That girl, english name is apparently Magik, was hella strong. Like "cut her way through swaths of demons and then chop down skyscraper size super demon lords before lunch" strong. She was sort of mix between that DC character Raven and Dassem Ultor. Died though last I heard, then Collosus got her back and she died again or something like that. Anyway the point is Wolverine would still kick her ass
And Magneto would kick wolverines ass, so the answer is that mages beat swordfighters

Magneto > Wolverine > Colossus.
Just so you know.
But since we're talking about mutants here -- Nightcrawler would totally be an awesome Claw.

oh my , I fail at being a nerd. If only it were true. 'If you weren't so ordinary...' - making it personal - curious. I'm almost motivated to research your 'Magik' and explain why s/he would lose every time against wolverine but, to be honest, I can't be bothered. You make an enemy of Wolverine and I can just leave you to your devices. Excellent. In the final analysis, from my perspective, you are trying to trade your own credibility for GRRM's - admirable and loyal but no less silly for all that. You chose poorly, my friend

Well the most obvious mage that has a staff like object is SHADOWTHRONE surely? Since we constantly hear about the tapping of his cane when he appears corporeally somewhere.

A cane isn't a staff. One's a shadowstuff constructed walking aid and the other is arguably a weapon or a magic wielding instrument. The whole wizard-with-staf thing was pretty much beaten into the ground by gandalf and maybe D&D back in the day. Butcher's Dresden still carries one altho the hockey stick variation was perhaps the only good thing that came from the TV show of that series.
Trull worked his spear much like a staff, only he had a pointy part at the end to stick into people. Of course there's Mat over in WoT but even he switched to a spear at some point. Point being (heehee, see what i did there) sooner or later a big peice of wood is going to be trumped by a sharp piece of metal in most circumstances. And unless they are old and decrepit or have a damn good reason for it, mages don't need big sticks and SE's mages would rather have armour and/or be able to run like hell without tripping over the big stick.
- Abyss, notes "magic wielding instrument" sounds vaguely dirty...

Nothing I said was any more personal than being called a nerd. Nor was anything more than tongue in cheek because I do not mind being called a nerd. Research all you want Wolverine fanboys are a dime a dozen and are at the low end IMO. (again tongue in cheek) Its like a gathering of goth kids thinking they are all unique when all they are doing is conforming to the norm. Be original pick someone other than Wolverine and then stand firm in your conviction.
Any nerds trying to persuade me to change sides to Wolverine can come and get some!
and since I always try to keep things on topic regardless of the post....

I will bring it back on topic for you Apt. (and you have gained imaginary rep for even remembering who Magik was...she was brought back recently...but I have no idea since I have not read a comic in a few years.)
What if the staff came from Phyrillis <sp?> the Jaghut Azath mix? I would put my money on that staff being damn good versus a swordfighter. We do not have any knowledge of legendary axe weilders or how well they compare to the swordfighters. Barathol comes to mind but he never ends up fighting a swordmaster. So spear versus sword has been done a bunch because of Trull. Axe no. Staff no. Knives yes. SE and ICE have to squeeze more variety in (again tongue in cheek. just in case someone doesnt get the tone of the post i am trying to convey.)

Have you guys ever read Weapon X? Wolverine has been around since the beginning of time, the right hand of god, he can not die. Sure you can kill him but he will just be reincarnated somewhere else right after he dies with no recollection of his past. Read Weapon X by Marc Cerasini, and its marvel press so its legit.

So he is like Toc the Younger then.
Some religions ie the Wickans have every great leader being reincarnated. So at best I will give Wolverine Coltaine like rep as far as swording goes.
I have decided to make my job keeping the thread on point.

I am totally lost, I know a lot of these names you guys are throwing around...but where the heck did you read about them? Rell, Skinner, etc...
I have read this series 2 times now and they only ever mention Skinner three or four times...am I missing a book?
