Those two, and Steve Stone (who does SE's UK covers, for those who don't know, including that one up there) are probably my three favourite fantasy cover artists.

I've always loved the cover of Sunrunner's Fire by Melanie Rawn (artist: Michael Whelan)



Loads of Michael Whelan covers are classic fantasy/SF images. The covers he made for Celia Friedmann's novels are a case in point:

Macros, I so agree with you about Stormcaller ! I HATED it...what a waste of a good cover. And Locke Lamora was fantastic, the sequel was just as good too but my covers were boring, not all nice and artistic like yours.

Not only because it's a stunningly beautiful image but also for the reason that it's not a painting; it was photographed in situ.

I also like this cover for Vellum, although it looks a lot better in the paper, complete with texture (it's quite similar to the Abercrombie ones all round, though the other way round would be a fairer way of putting it:

Acacia has some interesting texturing on it as well, although not quite as pronounced as Vellum or any of Abercrombie's. That stuff always improves things.

These are the ones I wanted to post in this thread when I come home from work! I love all the little details on the Queen's masks - I used to stare at those covers for hours when I was a kid!
