you have to remember he has quietly become one hell of an actor. his roll is mysterious skin shows he is not just the kid from 3rd rock from the sun or angels in the outfield anymore. i can see him easy as a young cobra comander.

It's not that he isn't a good actor. he's actually a VERY good actor. Sadly, as Star Wars has shown us, even great actors can sometimes find themselves in drek up to their finely shaped eyebrows.

I suspect this will be a movie that lives or dies by its advance buzz and first weekend. If the studio pulls a 'not released to critics', you can anticipate drek.

Saw the trailers. Yknow i would almost be optimistic if it didn't have two guys in thinly veiled Halo ripoff armour dodging missiles with backflips. Joe doesn't do power-armor. No.

...RESOLUTE can be found on the Youtubes and it is totally fun. Cobra Commander tells his peeps he isn't taking any more crap. Snake Eyes stabs people into halves. Scarlett shoots people in the headmeats. And a much fan beloved character is belovedly killed in the first ep, thank god.

Go find it. Watch the Snake Eyes v Storm Shadow fight at least six times. Then come back and thank me for improving your childhood.

Okay watched the whole thing.

I don't know what to think really. I know it's written for children but catering for the taste of an older audience, but some of this writting was just plain sloppy or made no sense.

It has the patented cartoon firefights where trained soldiers stand in the middle of the room firing automatic riffles at another group of trained soldiers, none of them taking cover and none of them hitting a damn thing after firig clip after clip. Nobody ever thinks to use a grenade (Except Zartan )

Cobra uses bazillions of dollars and man hours building all these super science death machines but they can't afford to buy some proper defense? Why weren't the sattelites balloons manned or using lasers or something? How about hiring a few more soldiers? You're supposed to be a damn army and all you have to offer is two squads and a couple of super villains per secret hideout?

The Death Ray thingies made no sense. How is it in any way sane to dismantle the first one with its own nuclear reactor? You saw the big fucking powerlines when they entered the site. Why not just fucking cut them? Stupid red head. And how was she supposed to make it out of there before the nuclear warheads went off in less than 6 minutes? It took them twenty minutes just to get in there.

And finally, Duke uses the deathray on American soil, destroying the entire city of Spirngfield and surrounding population, just to kill Cobra Commander? Yeah, that makes lots of sense.

Generally, I expected something a bit more complicated out of Ellis than this, but yeah, its for kids...

I enjoyed all the bang bang and splodey stuff of course.

Can't wait for the movie.

Apt was referring to RESOLUTE, an animated film that Warren Ellis was contracted to write before GIJOE: TROC live action movie started development, but only now released.

There is no 'continuity' between the two or any other gi joe series.

@Apt - of course its illogical and silly and has plot holes you could sail a somewhat on-fire aircraft carrier thru. But it's silly good fun. And there were at least three uses of grenades. Snake Eyes and Gung Ho and/or Roadblock use them at some point.

My only REAL nitpick was using the guy called 'Tunnel Rat' to blow up a satellite in the upper atmosphere and even acknowledging that wasn't his specialty - when even the characters are pointing out the illogic of the move, something is wrong.. There were like 12 other characters that would have made more sense, but they just had to write in a young hispanic dude... or something.

People were nitpicking on the strangest things.

I find it amazing that people can still remember everyones names and skills. I mean, it's like 15 years since I collected Action Force/GI Joe toys and I can only remember the center characters like Snake Eyes, Scarlet, Duke, Serpentor, Zartan, etc. All those smaller characters are completely forgotten for me.

While you're watching keep in mind that you could buy every one of these characters with all the hardware you see them use.

Back in the 80s and 90s Action Force figures was the best action figures you could get. Nothing could compete with their versatile design.

Then came that crappy COPS imitation of Action Force and the parents stopped buying Action Force figures for the kids because even though it was crap COPS looked like GI Joe but it was much cheaper.

What amazes me is that people actually throw a hissy fit over that particular joe. he wore a football jersey ffs! his name was 'Bazooka' because he carried a... wait for it.... 'bazooka'. A one man shoulder fired LASER bazooka, to be clear. Obviously these are peeps who watched the original animated series a little too much and got carried away during that ep where he kept shooting a robot sea serpent in the face with his shoulder mounted laser cannon. underwater. no, really. ....whatever, these are probably the same people who thought having Sgt. Slaughter as a joe AND a wwf wrestler was just the bestest thing ever... it's amazing that i actually played sports as a child...
