Who would like to see the star wars universe expand within the framework of a decently budgeted TV series? I would because I am a Jedi and it would further my religion
, no seriously.

Only if it was done sort of like Firefly or something. I just hated the way the prequels made the universe smaller if anything, by having all the same characters... as kids. * shudders at thought of a small greedo..*
Something set around Episode 4 would be ok - none of that clone stuff, or jedi in battlefronts, just a 'jedi as a mindset/religion' theme, to try and balance the awfulness of the prequels. It could include some of the bounty hunters seen in Empire strikes back.
I still think a single, well made prequel could see the other 3 overshadowed. It won't happen of course! - but a film with Anakin as a brash, burly fighter pilot who gets lured to the dark side because he wants power and control (not because he's emotionally blackmailed) would be so good. Someone who could be believable as the man in the suit, with a close friend he ends up betraying.
There's so much material, but it always seems that the wrong stuff gets used. I like the idea of the jedi as yoda describes them in Empire - mind over matter. (It would also be cool if lightsabers reflected the intent behind the wielder -white or pale blue for 'good' intention/will. Anakin's lightsaber could start to change colour as he starts to turn...
No Gungans/Trade federation/muppets/podracing/midichlorians/braids. And none of that 'single' apprentice crap. How about the Sith as a group or cult, of which the Emperor is just a part?
The empire's rise could just be a backdrop for a film with an actual script and acting. And Vader being a badass because he likes it.
Traveller, still mourning what could have been....

I remember seeing a clip of the show on one of these star wars programs on TV and it looked awful.
I like the idea of more action in the universe and will happily forget the prequels, but I read some books and comics a while ago and they chronicled the events after the emporer was killed. Cheekily labelled episodes 7,8,9 it was a pretty good read and covered ides like how they managed to capture and beat all the old admirals amongst other things. some more information regarding the hidden culture of the sith and all that. Some new evil jedi hermit who takes over one of the fleets.
That would be good too and good enough for 3 seasons at least.

If they ever did it, everyone knows it would be crap. I see potential if they based it around some of the bounty hunters, but let's face it - would they? It would all be clones and jedi and sith with unlikely facial ornamentation...

you never know, we might get lucky. Might be one of them cyclical things as with the trek movies. the money is there both in terms of investment and also revenue, so...Its nice to see you haven't lost your positive outlook on life Bwoodus

Their comes a time when you have to let go. Star wars was awesome, space knights with energy swords wielding the force fighting for justice and peace for all. But the bigger the extended universe the crapper it becomes. I enjoyed the originals. I enjoyed the fighting from the prequels and try to ignore the story. Though episode 3 is just unforgivable in every respect. The new animated move is terrible. The book seem like trash though admittedly I have never read them. I did like those two minute animated clip series. Anything new will jsut lead to us becoming more dissapointed.

Well...Lucas will suffer the hellfire for the abominations, but would he really be interested in lowering himself to TV? Think about it he is the lord and master of the big screen and to regress does not seem to be in his makeup. The problems with episodes 1-3 all stem from the fact he's a complete fuckhead and I'm sure the exclusion of his talents in a series would only improve its chances of being what we've always wanted. The directors of BSG would be right up my street, and turning Luke into a girl is not too far a stretch
.
Lets face it, the impact Episodes 1-3 has on our souls is as a blight, its left a shitty taste on our tongues and the only remedy is for some new material that transcends even the originals...*sighs*

There is a series coming out soon to now-ish. It's animated, based off of the animated movie that recently came out.

seen first four episodes, would perhpas be ok, and i mean ok, but the fact is lucas ruins it by adding in his attempt at humour, and its a fucking pisspoor attempt. flat out spoils everything about the show.

You should probably check out the Dark Horse comics. I've only glanced at them but they seem to be the sort of thing you're looking for - Jedi-Sith conflict, big splosions, etc etc.
I tend to fall on the side that really kind of wishes the fims had been left at the original 3. I was initially excited about the prequels but oh, how wrong that went. So wrong, so very wrong. Some of the books are good, most aren't. Haven't seen any of the cartoon stuff but not esp tempted.
- Abyss, just wanted Darth Maul to WIN, dammit, is that so much to ask...?

I have. Finally. It's taken some real concerted effort on George Lucas's part, but he's pissed me off so much that I'm just not interested anymore.
All the stuff about the clone wars, and Anakin as a jedi knight were all so much better when just hinted about in the original movies. Now I can picture a scene of Darth Vader being called 'a funny little boy.'
I hope that hellfire really is waiting for him.

Ugh I bet this series will be on bloody cartoon network or something..
I grew up with the origional Star Wars, watched the movies a million times, played the flight games like x-wing and tie fighter so much I still know the weak spots in an imperial cruiser and the velocity of an A-wing when you max engine power. However I hardly remember the 3 new star war movies and I don't think I want to..
I used to ask my dad, why did george lucas start at the fourth movie? And my dad used to tell, why, because the first three weren't very good so he decided to make the best ones.
Turned out he was right.

Wow, Kinda brings back the whole romance of 4-6 without letting the 'others' come into the picture. When I was very young Admiral Thrawn used to make me shit bricks, for some reason he was scarier than Vader. As I got older Vader became more menacing, and nowadays on some days I want to be like Vader...funny how things turn out.

I could be wrong here, but i read that the star wars tv show is not going to focus on the jedi at all, that it's going to be set between the 3rd and 4th movies, and that it is being modeled on firefly and BSG.
In a world gone mad, we will not spank the monkey, but the monkey will spank us.
