I'm firmly of the belief that Star Wars would be dull as fuck without Jedi.

And that George Lucas used to be Midas, but now he Midas's evil opposite. He is a cock, who needs to listen to the advice of other people, instead of his art department all the time.

Prequels, here is how they should have been done:

1. Get rid of Episode I altogether. Maybe keep in Maul for one of the later ones.

2. Make Episode II into Episode I. Less whiney with the Anakin character, less cheeeeesy love story.

3. Clone Wars cartoon series from Cartoon network is Episode II. That was the best Star Wars since 1983 or something, and Lucas had almost nothing to do with it.

4. Keep Episode III, but make it have a real reason to turn to the darkside - as Traveller said, have the guy turn to the darkside because of greed and powerlust, not because he's stupid.

No Jar-Jar, no midiclorians, no ten year old moppet kid. No Greg Proops. No fucking muppets.
Don't fuck with the Culture.

Yes to all that. That bit where Vader realises he's in a big dark suit of armour with a skull-like face; he should have been saying 'yessss!' not 'nooooo!'

Maul should have been there with Vader, killing off jedi in decent duels. Notches on the lightsaber handle and all that.

Episode 1 sucked but for Maul. The bit where he confronts the two jedi, and waits while they pause to take their cloaks off; just great. Not a cheesey 2 min montage of them all getting shot in the back. (Um, how is that even possible for a jedi?! They can feel changes, and predict intention.)

Traveller clearly has not let go as much as he likes to admit... :sabre:
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Darth Maul is probably almost as good as Vader in terms of sheer menace and coolness. I approve :(

W.r.t. those Cartoon network cartoons, the 3rd movie* should have made the General as tough as he was in the cartoon and given him a better platform and more parts...

There is shitloads the bearded fuckhead could have done** to improve his magnum shitus. Grah!

Jedis can never let go, traveller :)

Who would like to see the star wars universe expand within the framework of a decently budgeted TV series? I would because I am a Jedi and it would further my religion  , no seriously.

I would see it if lucas died first and it wasn't made by him.

Dibs post from last year just made me a very happy boy.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I remember a couple of years ago there were rumours that Lucas was working on making a 100 episode series, where the whole storyline from episode 1 to 100 would be pre-set and basically it would kick so much ass. I believe it was proposed when they were still riding on the attention they had around the release of episode 3. I'm guessing it's dead now.

Every weekend if I remember it or have the time, I sit and watch the Clone Wars cartoons. They are so fucking awesome and I wish they would go on for ever, I love that show more than I do the rest of the series of films. The acting is about as good, the effects better and at least the story makes, somewhat, sense now and it portraits the most delicious and interesting part of the Star Wars mythology between episode 2 and 3.

Every time we have this discussion I have to defend the new episodes. Personally I like Episodes 1-3 more than 4-6. Much like how I prefer Indiana Jones 4 over the rest of the series. I honestly do not understand all the hate of the new stuff and the devotion to the old stuff. If you sit down and watch all the film in a row, you'll see that, yes, the old films have a different feel of nostalgia and that special 70s/80s movie feel to them, but the truth is that the acting was HORRIBLE, you think Hayden Christensen was bad, take a look at fucking Mark Hamill. The effects are ridiculous, cool then, terrible now. The action scenes are laughable, stormtroopers are a joke, the light saber fights are the equivelant of handicapped people fighting with broom handles. And the story, seriously, it's pure 70s cheese. Yeah, the story is great for its time, but honestly, everything is done better in the newer episodes. EVERYTHING! (awaits the angry retorts of the fanboys). If I should rate them in order of favorites it would probably be episode 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

I would like new films, but I think the technology has also progressed far enough that I think Star Wars would work as a TV-series. Heroes and Battlestar gallactica shows that you can have great effects and cool space battles, even on TV.

The hitman should practice by killing off all Tairy fans, all Twitards and then Apt before pitting his skills against the megafortress of evil that is Skywalker Ranch.
