Plus, I have to go to the grocery store tonight and try to find serviceable boxes for the move and begin the long process of packing up my books, which will be quite time-consuming.

While it is kind of a waste of money, you can buy packing boxes and packing materials for moving house and they usually deliver the next day. Well, you can in the UK so I'm sure you can in Canadia and it isn't too expensive either. I used them for my last move instead of grubbing around shops begging for anything and it was wonderful! The convenience far outweighed the cost. I recycled them afterwards so my conscience was clear too ^_^

Seconding this... any half decent UHaul or Dymon Self Storage near you will have perfect sized boxes for books for less than a dollar each AND you can return any you don't use. Plus cheap tape and markers. SO MUCH better than grubbing for boxes.

I'm having a miserable fuck of a day. I can't explain it either. I hate that.

Nothing is serving to cheer me up at all....

Warren Ellis' tweets from last year: http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=11259

Oh that cheered me up a bit. Thanks Abyss.

Does Warren Ellis cure everything?

Oh this is BRILLIANT! I always assumed it would be much more expensive to do this (hence grubbing around in grocery stores)...but at $2 a box (Uhaul near my place) this CANNOT be beat!

I've also decided to buy ABSOLUTE SANDMAN Vol. 2 tonight as a cheer up.

You guys have already made my day much better.

Thanks. No seriously, thanks!

See above re cash, jewels. I'll fwd Mez' her cut.

And i'm sure you know this already, but when it comes to masses of books, more and smaller boxes is the way to go. Resist the temptation to pack them all into a small number of bigger boxes. Your spine will thank you.

No! You look up proper deadlift technique and you make the book-porting into a Strongman event. Like a literary Atlas Stones thing! Even better if the top book is Atlas Shrugged and you shrug, it falls off and accidentally falls into the hobo fire barrel and serves Ayn Rand right for writing such gadawful tripe.

Speaking as someone who usually has to lift with his back because his knees can and have given way before, you should be burnt at the stake for that suggestion.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I just had an image of your knees busting out like blasting caps.

but yeah, more often than not I lift with my back too...luckily my sister in law is a chiropractor. Still, I should certainly not lift that way.

BA is tedious in extreme - Manchester to London all is good and then extra hour of tedium as Sao Paulo flight delayed by extra hour and connection to Santiago now decidedly iffy

The boyfriend woke me up at 5 am (he's in the UK and I'm in Canada) to bitch about the fact that his neighbor has the builders in and he can't sleep. I refrained from pointing out the irony of waking me up to complain about lack of sleep, never mind the fact that I get up at 6:15 to go to work. So that wasn't a great way to start the week...and then just to wrap the day up nicely I got shampoo in my eye when showering earlier. Not the suds either, but the actual shampoo, pre-lathered. Hurts like fuck every time I blink. Maybe I should just stop washing? ^_^

People still shower? Anytime my smell begins to escape, I add another layer of clothing... or a hat!

An expected busy day and I had an awful night of trying to sleep but only managing to get sweatier and sweatier (and I wasn't even doing anything fun for it - 28 degrees at 2am is NOT acceptable!)

Now I have Matador's mum and her fiance coming over - which is always fun times for me, the horrible wench that stole her son away.
And my friend Lala, is in hospital with extreme abdomenal pain and her deadbeat ex 'can't' mind their kids so I'm watching them as well - which I don't mind helping but having two kids under 5 to mind unexpectantly on a bloody hot day when I haven't prepared anything for them to do is kinda like Hell....on a bad day

^_^

Oh it's great - one of the kids got bitten by a turtle, the other is shouting at Dora that it's 'house not cassa!!!' And i have sand and cheeseburger all over my couch :S And now the boy is crying cos i won't let him play with my millenium falcon. Apparently despite all my efforts he refuses to grasp the concept of 'collector item' and insists that it is a toy and toys are made to be played with - child logic is hard to counter.

I HATE when that happens. At my local coffee place they have gone through no less than 3 awesome barrista's in the last few years. Now I don't begrudge these awesome folk getting better jobs than hawking coffee...but still, you are an artist!

Books are your friend.
Also, alcohol.

Sigh... it's going to be a busy day. Three coffees at least.
