So far my hunt for a new job has failed spectacularly. 7 applications and not a single response. Sigh...

When I was job hunting I applied for at least 10 a day (if there were 10 suitable ones available). Takes a lot of resume sending to get a job if you aren't looking in a specialist field!

I know, and I only did start on Tuesday. Getting a job isn't the issue though. I could get a job working as a barista or something like that no problem, but since for most of the job vacancies I see the pay is shitty and I can't work much during the week, I won't really be able to support myself that way. And those 7 were places I would really love to work at, like JB or EB. So it's a little disappointing that I didn't get anything. But the job hunt starts in earnest tomorrow.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Mate hang on in there. It is extremely frustrating... I have been unemployed for 9 months and only just got a job. I'm sure a charismatic young go-getter like yourself won't have to wait that long for yours! I hope and pray something comes along to you soon. Keep your chin up old chap.

Yeah, just stick at it. Job hunting really evolves over the period you are looking, I think. I reckon you start applying for stuff you really want and are either lucky or realise that your CV isn't right for it yet. Then you adapt your expectations and keep adapting until you find an area that is interested in you! The trick is staying motivated and trying to make the opportunities that do arise work the way you want them to. I don't believe all the fairytales of people who get their dream career and create a great career path for themselves. It is reverse engineered by the time they tell it anyway! I can make my career moves look like choices but the truth is, I can only get jobs that want me, that are available when I am looking and are in roughly the right place.

Right. Being born Norwegian was the fucking lottery ticket, wasn't it? I did go a few months without a job, but I had absolutely no problems getting short term hire through an agency (Adecco). '

I was playing Rome: Total War again today. Ahh, the nostalgia. There I was, happily slaughtering Romans, running over barbarians in my chariots, amassing ridiculous fortunes and dominating the world all in equal measures. It was a fun time. Then a movie comes on TV that I want to watch (Charlie Wilson's War). So I figured I'd exit the game and go watch that instead. My computer must have felt jealous, because as soon as I exited R:TW, it decides to chuck a massive hissy fit. Now all the colours on my computer are fucked up, the resolution is all shit, and since I am only computer literate to a certain degree (read: not very), I have no idea how to fix it. Damn you, Vista! If you weren't an operating system I'd punch you in your stupid face for being so crappy.

My mom's constant 'can't you do this? And that? And I also need this and that done..', which has been going on for two weeks now, namely the entire time I didn't have uni but had to do stuff for uni at home, and it's going into the third week of 'Can't you do.. yadda yadda'
Not that I wouldn't run errands for her, BUT it takes me mostly twice the time it would take her, because first I have to go over..
So, to not get into an argument I'm like 'Fine, I'll come over.' So I go over.. and she's not even there!
And half the day is gone and I still haven't done anything, because, well, mom wants something for dinner, and who's a nice person and cooks something..?
I'm sure as hell am not going with her to yoga this evening, just because she can ride along for free with my train ticket. I hate it there. Dumb b.. all over the place who think they're all clever and stuff because they drag themselves to do yoga once a week..

Worked last night, got home after 11pm, didn't get to sleep until after 2am, woke up at 4am to help my girlfriend unload her store's early morning delivery of cat litter and dog food and now have drank too much coffee to sleep. Can't think, so now I surf the forums.
Also, I really have to pee, but don't want to get up.

Chronic lack of time and a bunch of things to do. And all those people with loads of free time on their hands and nothing to do, who still expect me to organize my schedule according to theirs.
Oh, and now that I'm already posting here, I want to use this opportunity to send out a friendly message to all the people out there who are attending a congress/symposium/conference somewhere around the world right now:
Dear doctors/radiologists/engineers/diplomats/whoever, we don't mind having you in our city - actually, we are very proud that we have established ourselves as a top-destination for the conference tourism, and we loooooove the money you're bringing. You are welcome. Really. We love you! We would just appreciate it very much if you had a tiiiiiny little bit more respect for the people living here. (Oh, yes, I know that sounds shocking and that you probably failed to noticed it - but yes, there actually ARE people living and working here - this city does NOT consist only of a conference centre and a few fancy hotels that your companies/insitutions/organizations are paying for...) Please, learn to read those nice red signs on the escalators that say "keep to the right" - clogging all the subway exits does NOT make us locals happy. You'll have enough time to stand side by side and chat while drinking your coffe, you don't have to do it on the escalators. And a propos coffee - there are soooo many places for you to get your coffee in the morning, you don't have to push by hundreds into this one tiny 3x3 coffee-to-go shop and make miles long queues that make us late for work. I don't have the time to wait for hours just to grab some food on my way to the office - and you're getting your coffee for free at the conference anyway. Please, take off those pretty backpacks and notebook cases with logos of your conferences while in the streetcar or on the train - I'm sick of them bumping against my forehead/shoulders/back every time you turn around. Start behaving as human beings and start treating US as human beings, and we'll love you even more. Thank you very much for your attention.
/A veeeeery polite and friendly rant over. Who says that anger management classes don't work...

The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues.
