Wilford Brimley has died, and I'm mad as hell.

The whole "beetus" thing he got stuck with, and which defined him later in life, was mean and unfair

My condoleances, HD.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I don’t know which thread to post this in honestly. It brings up a lot of trauma that I am glad to put behind me, and I’m glad it is finally over for the most part.

My ex husband has finally been prosecuted with felony possession of child pornography after almost 7 years of floating around in the courts. They gave him 10 years of probation, and he needs to register as a sex offender. I believe in rehabilitation, and this keeps him in therapy, but I don’t know. Is it strict enough? I’m glad he can’t be alone with my daughter for sure.

How do you have this conversation with your child, because she’s almost 9, and has to know it isn’t normal to not get to be alone with him.

Aargh. This is depressing. I guess I chose the right thread.

Dang that's tough. I don't know what the register is like where you are but over here it can put some severe limitations on a person and restrict them in tons of ways. Might seem like he's "getting away with it" in terms of jail time, and it might feel like a light sentence (not going to start on the black kids with weed sentencing Vs much more serious crimes...) but afaik, one breach of conditions and he's out.

Here, we can turn up at someone's house (someone on the register that is) and turn the place upside down looking for anything that might connect them to the internet or perhaps stuff that looks like children are staying there/preparations for children staying there etc - depending on their offence/conditions etc.

Any beach and that's it. Some have gone from fairly short term conditions to a lifetime on the register. It's something that is taken very seriously.

Source: am a cop and have done a stint on the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team. It was both horrifying and quite rewarding.

I perhaps know more than most about this kind of thing so if you want someone to chat to please PM whenever. I might not have all the answers (especially as I think you're in the US?) but I'll always listen. :)

Biting your tongue is the worst. Especially when you tag it hard, right at the back, on the bottom side. It's beyond annoying and is going to huuuuuuurt tomorrow morning when I awake. It's going to be like "oh hello, remember me? you bit me, now feel even more pain!" FML! Do the hip TikTok kids still use "FML" btw?

I think this is way, way beyond our level and seeing a therapist to help specifically with this would pay off immensely in terms of figuring out how to communicate with your daughter all of this.

I think she knows something is up, because kids pick up on things. All the love and safety to you both.

So sorry to hear this Bliss. You just don't need that shit in your life. I think Phib is right about counselling but it depends if you can access it. If not then there has to be some kind of online support group with advice on age appropriate ways to discuss this stuff?

That’s really a good idea on the online support group. Thanks!

Jesus, what a shitty situation Bliss. I don’t think I have any good advice, just make sure your kid knows you love her and that you’re there for her no matter what.

You can always vent/rant to us.

I had a brush with death on Tuesday. Similar to this time last year I had a haemorrhage and almost bled to death. I got to A&E in good time but due to covid I wasn't allowed anyone inside with me. I waved Mr PigDog off home and then deteriorated quite quickly and woke up wearing an oxygen mask and heart monitor surrounded by a crash team asking me if I knew my name or where I was. I couldn't speak but I remember thinking "This got serious quickly."

Anyhoo. I was allowed home the next day with just surgery and blood loss to recover from. They think they sorted the issue this time. I got quite remarkable care especially as I was on my own the whole time. Go NHS but I am not planning on having my life in your hands again for quite some time.

Oh no! I'm very very happy you're recovering and got to the hospital in time.

Is there any explanation to why it happened again? Scary that your body can just fail like this.

Just be grateful you weren't born female, Apt.

I can recommend losing a huge amount of blood during a heatwave. Everyone else is melting and I'm ever so cool.
