Went up to the cottage to relax and enjoy Muskoka for the long weekend and Canada's 150th...only to be absolutely fucked completely over by the amount of rain we've had this year. Which meant the blackflies and mosquitos were still VERY present (usually by the time of year they have lessened and aren't too much of a bother with some bug spray on)...and when I say present, I mean: Going outside to do ANYTHING (even if it was just to get something from the car to bring into the cottage) meant you were a verifiable FEAST for thousands of the little stinging bastards.

So we went to the cottage...to stay inside for 3 days and play boardgames and watch TV.

SIGH.

Sounds like my SO's parents garden. They have a lot of fruit trees, but going out is basically setting out an all-you-can-eat buffet for the mosquitoes.

I have always felt that the outside was overratedPosted Image

LOL. It just sucks because we usually spend relaxing time down at the beach by the lake during the day...but with the bugs being so bad, and the huge rains...the beach is a no go...and is kind of non-existent right now anyways (the water level is higher than I've ever seen it. Usually the path down from the cottage ends and there is about 15-feet of beach to enjoy and sit on....and the water is currently lapping at the bottom of the path instead...the beach is underwater).

Just feels like a waste of a weekend. Even tho the company was nice and the boardgames were fun.

Yeah I see how that would ruin a holiday. I suppose the cabin was not on the lake? Rain on lakes and rivers is actually quite nice to see if you are not getting drenched. I remember a river tour when it started to rain and we literally saw the curtain of water advance gradually over the river.

It is on the lake (there is a wooden walkway and then a path down to the lake) right below the cottage on the property. We thought we'd avoid the bugs down there because the water and wind might help us....but no avail. Still super buggy down there.

Ah well. It was nice to get out of the city for a few days anyways. I should not complain so much.

My friends are having a bad week.

First, there's my friend in the States who is feeling suicidal.

Then one of my oldest friend's dad died today.

And I just got a message from a friend saying she has been admitted to a psych hospital. I spoke to her and things are not good. She's done some major damage to her life.

I don't even...

That's a real cluster of bad news. I know you're doing what you can for the first friend, and likely the second, but none of these are "solvable" problems, particularly from the outside, which is a tough thing for a friend to have to swallow.

I've got nothing quite so rough to report, but I did somehow pull a muscle in my jaw around the right hinge and now every time I sneeze it feels like a cherry bomb going off in the side of my face.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

When I was younger I fell from a height and landed on my face and it dislocated the right side of my jaw. I was really lucky because they wanted to wait for the swelling to go down before doing surgery and by some stroke of luck as the swelling went away my jaw actually set itself back in place so no surgery ended up happening.

Every so often I will over extended my jaw (like taking too big a bite from ana apple) or sneeze or yawn and I get the same sensation you described. I was told it was a pinched nerve so hopefully you don't have that and it'll go away soon.

Maybe avoid allergens as best as you can in the meantime? I hear gasmask are making a fashion comeback. :)

Two of my good friends at work who were married split up today, which sucks. I have no idea what happened yet but the husband changed their facebook cover to the This is Fine dog so I'm figuring the worst
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Hornets nest burn out went wrong. Fuckers are more numerous then I thought. Lots of running took place.

Artilary shell blew up in the tube 10 feet away, more running took place.

Artilary shell at my neighbors did the same thing. I watched as they ran.

Artillery...shells?

BK, did you join the army?

This is good advice, except I'm smack in the middle of dry season and have to weedwack hella foxtails and pull tumbleweeds and other nuisance plants and then trash em, and those really get me sneezing. I don't have a gasmask though I usually do wear a simple work mask, but this year I didn't buy any. Also they're not that great and sneezing inside one is actually pretty gross.

I sneezed inside my breather during a body find once at CFA cadet camp. It wasn't pretty bad and I had to just put up with it until I made my way out of the building doing a proper full sweep the whole way. Posted Image

Not sure if I'm mentioned it before but I have parasomnias - predominately night terrors and sleep paralysis - and they have been on full overdrive lately. So I'm exhausted both physically and mentally. I'm just so incredibly tired in every sense of the word. And parasomnias don't only happen when you are asleep, they can happen when you start to wind down or if you are really tired. So I'm having waking nightmares, kinda like hallucinations, my limbs constantly stop responding to my brain, and my body is constantly having bouts of adrenaline running through its system because my flight/fight response is responding to imaginary threats and then there's the crash from the high and then repeat so my body is in under so much stress that I'm having a range of physical health issues like migraines and sharp pains and blurred vision and my stomach has given itself a new ulcer and I'm just a hair away from probably having to go to hospital to be put under just so my body can have a break and start to regain strength etc.

And I have a friend's dad's funeral to go to on Friday which is the worst possible thing I could do right now and the mental/emotional drain from trying to support my friends is immense. I mean, I don't do emotions or feelings when I'm at my best so trying to deal with them now and be sensitive to their situations and feelings whilst having no fucking clue how to navigate almost any of this is really extraordinarily draining.

And naturally this all feeds my ptsd and ocd and hyper-vigilance so I'm pretty much holding together, mentally and physically, by shear willpower alone.

And you know, trying to be present and deliver a fun and engaging environment for a four year old whilst ensuring a variety of learning opportunities throughout each day...but it's fine. Everything is fine.

It took me out of left field a bit this morning that it's been a year since the ex and I split up. I'm not sure why it's got me off on the wrong foot other than to acknowledge that twelve months has changed pretty much everything to the point my life and me are both unrecognisable set against twelve months ago.

Maybe "groove messed with" is a little strong. It's just made me very pensive. Ah well, I am in a dressage competition at my riding school tonight so I have a focus away from it all - it's just for fun, but we're getting fully kitted up and plaiting the horses and what not, and we've had to learn the test by heart. Feels very much like the real thing!

Woke up in a completely panicked state thanks to a verrrry fun dream that changed to not so fun due to 2 words uttered from 2 people in it. After that verbal exchange I was in full flight till I woke.

It was the opposite for me last night. I was having a very, very pleasant dream, and awoke rather abruptly due to a random noise.
