Snotface is at work at Booval McDonalds and they won't let them close early and go home, even though the emergency services basically told everyone who wasn't essential services to stay home.

She is on til midnight, lives in Brassall and doesn't know if she will make it home. She asked before she started at 5pm if this was necessary and was told to stop being silly etc. Drove through water over the road to get to work and from what I've seen on TV it's not guaranteed that she'll get home.

I loathe multinational corporations - all profit before people. It was a direction from emergency services FFS! It should be LAW that unless you are essential services, you MUST stay off the roads etc. I really don't give a shit that some stupid fat fucks won't get their lardburgers tonight.

I would have pointed out that the company has a duty of care that extends to their employees travel home. If anything happens they're actually liable. They have to ensure she gets home safely or to a safe alternative.

Good point, I had forgotten about that. Thanks.

I'm angry that she was called "silly" and "stupid" when she raised concerns to her managers and higher-ups. None of THEM are at work. Half the kids on her shift sensibly called in sick.

In a delicious dose of irony, up here in Townsville we could have used a fair bit of that rain as our dam is at <15%. We have had less wind than a a baked beans dinner party and I think it rained yesterday for all of 10 minutes, enough to make it godawful steamy. Yep, a tropical city is on level 3 water restrictions. WTF?

Indeed it would have shown them. And how.

I shall take a leaf from your country's book and write a sternly-worded letter to my local Member of Parliament.

Very stern.

EDIT: update
Sanity finally prevails as parents come in and pick their kids up from work. The local state emergency service comes in and asks wtf they're still doing there.
Snotface STILL has to take a video of their back carpark flooding and send it to show how bad it is.
The Bundamba bridge on Brisbane road - just down from her work - goes under.
And fat fucks are STILL wandering in as they're closing wanting their fucking cheeseburgers. Fucktards.
So she's home now thank goodness.

Good thing she's home safely. What in the world is wrong with those managers and the idiots who want cheeseburgers during a flood.

That is a shit poor owner and restaurant manager. When I was an assistant manager we shut our restaurant several times because of storm or street conditions. Nobody wanted to be responsible for other people getting in accidents getting to and from work. Since McDonalds restaurants are all owned franchises the franchise owners or Store Managers can make the call. For them to not make the call when roads are being washed out is fucking bullshit. They could 100% be held liable if anything happened coming or going from work.
How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.

Hard to tell across the country, but the very high proportion of people where I work who voted remain have been quiet about it of late. Maybe the realisation that all the trifling things they voted remain for have been long since eclipsed by real, actual (and costly) changes has finally hit home.

Or maybe they're so dumb that they're still happy they 'won' and just don't comprehend the magnitude of their own stupidity.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Not completely accurate. Some McDonalds are franchises and some are corporate here in Australia. But I agree with everything else you said.

As the others have said it's difficult to tell for sure, but I'm inclined to believe that if a 2nd referendum were held then remain would win, as Tiste said. I doubt it would be by a large margin but I think a significant enough portion of leave voters voted with a genuine belief in false promises - the backtracking of which started almost immediately - or on a basis of complete misinformation - as certain facts have shed light on - and lack of understanding. The leave campaign was built almost entirely on a platform of lies the foundation of which was and is the perpetuation of the idea that, where the EU are concerned, we can have our cake and eat it too, all the benefits with none of the drawbacks - real or imagined - because they need us more than we need them. This has been exposed - and is continuing to be so - for the nationalistic nonsense that it is, but while plenty of people can see this still others cannot or it simply doesn't matter for them. Either they still view this issue, wrongly, as one of sovereignty - by and large the same sort of people that showed their complete misunderstanding of the term when they attacked parliament for exercising said sovereignty - or they are part of a cross-section of society for whom immigrants and immigration are the source of all ills, and leaving the EU is somehow the miracle panacea - I like to call them the 'I'm-not-racist-but' brigade, for the most part. Which isn't to say that the leave campaign are entirely to blame for our current situation, the remain campaign was so pathetically run it would be laughable if it wasn't so depressing, and Corbyn's 'support' was so limp that a wet noodle would be offended by the comparison!

Article 50 has been triggered barely a day and Amber Rudd is already having to deny that Theresa May and the British government are attempting to blackmail the EU, as Theresa May's letter triggering the article suggests that intelligence - counter-terrorism and the like - could be withheld if a favourable trade deal isn't given. Yeah that's the way to start negotiations, we've already turned around and spit in the faces of the EU, now blackmail. This makes me angry and sad in equal measure.

Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;

It is the same here. But my experience is that unless it is a flagship store then it is just a matter of time until it is a franchise. Also Corp is more likely to pull the trigger on shut it down then a cheap ass fucking franchise owner.

My store went from corp owned to franchise owned and it was an unpleasant experience. I left for unrelated reasons about 3 months after.

So, just a few days ago I was all happy about getting a bonus from work because I wanted to get a new computer; I was actually planning on shopping for it this weekend.
Last night my brother texts me and says our father wants to know if I can lend him some money to pay the taxes on his house / farm in the country. Now of course I say yes because a- I had the money and b- my father has helped me out so much over the course of my life that saying no just because I wanted a new shiny toy would have been petty as hell. Still, I'm bummed because not only is the amount he needs wiping out my bonus but it's also wiping out the small tax refund that I got this year.

My brother says "don't worry, he said he'll pay you back within a month" and I almost choked on my laughter because I've loaned money in the past and have never gotten a penny back...and we're talking in the thousands now, not hundreds. I love my family and I'll do whatever I can to help out but man, this one was a bummer. At least I hadn't actually gotten the computer yet, hah.

Oh, and we're supposed to get more snow tonight into tomorrow. Mother nature hates me. :(

Eating pavlova and drinking whiskey at the same time may seem like a brilliant idea but it isn't. It really really isn't.

Ugh, after spending more than a week in the lovely Florida sunshine (and 30degree weather)...being back in this oppressive, Canadian weather is draining my will.

On the bright side your chances of being run over by a senior citizen, shot, deported, or eaten by a crocodile decreased significantly.

Rip is at his second lot of acrobatics/dance/music/drama classes today and he totally ditched ud.

We expected to have to stay, at least for a little bit, but he was all "I liked having you and Daddy there last week but it was kind of awkward. Me can do this by myself. You can go now."

I...I think I'm the one having trouble with this. I want to sneak up and check how he is doing but I can't because I want to support his independence and if he saw me it would undermine the faith he believes I have (and do have) in him.

Parenting can be complicated sometimes. :(
