Since I was told by our GP about sleep regression issues (teething, growth spurts, ect. causing sleep changes) with regards to our little one, I'm inclined to believe her. But that's probably a debate we shouldn't have since you both seem to be against that term.

The term does get thrown around a lot by 'sleep consultants' and authors trying to sell books to semi-conscious parents, but sleep regression is absolutely a thing. The questions is which thing. As with many things baby, some get it, some don't, and there are a whole mess of other things that are similar/unrelated and equally frustrating/disruptive. Also, the term gets different uses from different places/professionals, from an actual age/stage/phase to a reaction to anything else like teething, milestoning, growth, daylight savings time, astral plane shifts, small trolls trying to drink their souls until a protective cat swats them into a fan blade, etc.

Consider me disappointed that "milestoning" wasn't what it sounds like (picking up mile-marker stones from Mediaeval European roadways, and heaving them a distance for reward gold).

Somewhere around age ten the term shifts from the unconscious brain processing developmental benchmarks during sleep to that.

...depending on how hardcore you are about your kid being in the next Olympics.

Must needs also mention how disproportionately happy i was to see some of you got the troll-cat-fan ref.

Not only did that cat save that little girl's soul, it did so with the power of music. And that's after he was stabbed and jumped down a chimney. HERO.

I LITERALLY mentioned this movie randomly in a conversation the other day. Spooky.

Actually (and this is going to hurt my Film-nerd cred), I confused it with TROLL which a co-worker was talking about...and the little troll from CAT'S EYE popped into my head, but I could NOT remember the name of the film at the time for the life of me.

Whiskeyjack is missing. Somehow he managed to unzip the door on the cat enclosure.

I went out to bring the cats in for the afternoon as the temperature is rising but found only Kalam and Raraku.

He is really old and semi-senile. I'm worried he doesn't have the mental facilities to be able to find his way home...or move out of the way of cars.

Edit: Spent over an hour searching (and panicking) for him. Sat down, wrote this post, then heard a pathetic 'meow' at the front door. And there he is, looking all sheepish. Damn cat!

@Loki I'm glad you the cat. I've been in that situation before (sadly didn't find mine) and I wouldn't wish the experience on anyone.

Good thing he got home ok, that's a relief. I was a wreck when our dog got out and went walkabout. Got a phone call two days later from a woman saying she'd found her running around happy as Larry and playing at a dog park with no owner...20kms away. Damn dog! I like to imagine she re-enacted The Adventures of Milo and Otis in her travels, as she would have had to cross a highway, two main roads and several kms of bushland.

Oh man, I'm so happy to hear that he's home safe and sound. I used to always be so anxious when I was a kid and my mom would let our cat out, though thankfully nothing bad ever happened, other than his being sprayed by a skunk once. .
It's also why I haven't yet gotten a kitten or two, even though it's been a little over a year since I had to say goodbye to my old furball. My condo's front door opens right into the living room (there's no entryway / screen door / hallway) and I have visions of my cat running outside every time I have to open the door...I live on a pretty busy street too. Ugh.

Slight aside - I love those names! ;)

Thanks guys.

I grew up with a lot of animals (a ridiculous amount of cats) but Whiskeyjacl is the first pet I got when I moved out of home that was just mine. He gave my entire family ringworm when I first got him! He even brought me home a sausage and a piece of KFC chicken. ;) And we've had a lot of vet trips and the likes. He is in the far end of the life expectancy scale so I'm constantly worrying about him. Plus, it was rpugh listening to my son cry because 'Witsyjack is gone'. So I'm really glad he didn't wander and/or get lost.

Anyone who doesn't think pets are family is doing pets wrong.

(LadyMTL: We had a cat called Burn as well but we had to give her away as I was just too allergic to her. She was part persian.)

Amazon cancelled my order of Shogun!

They had some problem with stocks, so they cancelled my order, and refunded me the money.

And now the price has nearly doubled!
