Thank you, to all of you. I did go to the hospital and I am happy I did so, despite how awful it felt seeing him there, tired and dying. I grew up with him as my closest neighbour. When Sarah left me I spent a long night sitting in his living room drinking cognac and listening to him rant about what a complete twat that woman was (others in my family tried to be kinder, more understanding towards her. That was not his way :p ).

He was awake for a little while and I managed to get out something like a goodbye. And then I sat there for some time while he slept. I read your messages and it made me feel a little better. Now he's in a coma and we're all just waiting.

Something is making the elbow tense up again.

Could be the cold.

Could be the fact that for 2 days in a row I need to carry my 19-inch laptop to work a handle it there (because reasons), and for the first time in my life it actually feels heavy.

Could be the fact I'm too busy to even bother to pretend to wear the sling means my arm is getting less rest and is more tired.

Whatever it is, it feels like there's some thick but elastic mat-type thing partially stuck in the joint, so that it's compressing both inside and outside like something partially caught between gears of a mechanism.

And since I've never had an injury like this before, I don't know how much pain is "normal", and where stuff will be harmful. But conventional logic is suggesting if there's still swelling (and I look like there still is), then trying to force the joint when it feels li smth is stuck there could be a bad idea. So I'm reduced to "guarding" - IE, not doing anything that'll cause pain-even though I KNOW that's terrible behaviour.

On top of this, I now don't know what to do for New Years'. There was a cottage trip in the works, but winter cottage trips involve bein useful around the cottage, b/c everyone has to pitch in. And I don't know how much I can do with my elbow still messed up, and I'd feel totally out of place not doing anything.

/venting.

Is it just me or does the concept for this show finally, irrefutably cross "the line"?

http://www.news.com....4e6de6e0fd3449f

I mean, we've all seen dubious shit before, and it's gone rapidly downhill in the last few years thanks to the success of moral black holes like the Kardashians, Jersey Shore etc. But is this a new low? Can anyone find anything worse already out there?

Or is this just a publicity stunt?

You could move that topic to the discussion board and we could have a discussion on it.

I can't see any real issue with the concept. As is stated in the article:

Quote

Russian millionaire Yevgeny Pyatkovsky, 35, is the brains behind the extreme contest — but says the show won’t take responsibility for what happens to the contestants.

“We will refuse any claim of participants even if they were to be killed or raped,” he said.

“We will have nothing to do with this. This will be spelt out in a document to be signed by the participant before the start of the show.”

But while the show’s own rules are that absolutely anything goes, Russian criminal laws will still apply if contestants do end up turning savage.

Contestants are told if there is proof of criminality, “the police will come and take you away.”

It's just spin for publicity. It's no more extreme than the contestants in a Big Brother show getting into a fight and potentially stabbing somebody in the throat with a tea spoon.

Now a more interesthing theoretical question would be, what if it was state sanctioned murder games? Or what if somebody sailed a ship into international waters and wanted to stream fights of hobos beating each other to death? Would that be illegal?

Internation waters mean laws don't really apply. Unless you violating some maritime law safety codes or smth.

BUT, you'd need to prove that

1) in the jurisdiction where the hobos are from they provided conse willingly, no duress, and all advertising and representation ad to local customs.

2) the jurisdiction where you're hosting the streaming server does not consider said content illegal, and everything is clear on on end

3) all taxes from the viewing revenues are done properly.

Those'd be the things I'd look at, but this isn't exactly my area of expertise...

Except, people thought of that.

If the ship is being sailed under the flag of a sovereign nation, then said nation has jurisdiction over the ship and therefore their laws still apply.
If the ship is not bound to that, then there is Universal Jurisdiction, i.e. The reason pirates can't simply do what they want past the 200 mile mark - any nation has jurisdiction to intervene in the case of certain crimes committed outside of territorial waters, regardless of where or who was involved.

Also, if you've ever seen a map of territorial waters, there are very few places left which are international - and pretty much all of them are the open ocean where stopping to have a hobo fighting ring will depend a *lot* on the conditions. XD

So, two days of 8-10 hour meetings and seminars. The ridiculously low backed chairs destroyed my back, a guy sitting beside me gave me a throat infection and my stomach is making some critical remarks about the food.

I want to go to bed

Had extra work dropped on me with a next week deadline (so now I have 2 things due instead of one).

My elbow actually started to just plain hurt this morning, regardless of how I hold it. Stabbing joint pain is less than fun.

There's a charity pool tournament tomorrow which is a fairly regular Uki community event I've been attending- because I se lots of people I know there, and because it's a fun event, and I like playing pool.

I foresee all kinds of BS regarding me going tomorrow from my loving and concerned parents, since I'm injured which means I'm expected for the most part to be a recluse to avoid any possibility of further injury.

But mostly, i'm feeling quite burned out and ready for the holidays. Thankfully I get 4.5 days off for Xmass, 5 for NYE, and then an extra 3 day weekend for orthodox Christmas. Now I just need need survive 4 days next week.

I think some vengeful god is after you. Don't make the rookie mistake of getting into bed normally, crawl under and hide before he catches you.

Also, you have my sympathies during one of those days.

@Ment: I'm no doctor but it seems like you need to use your sling thing before something unwanted happens to your elbow.

I'm wearing the sling-when I'm in commute especially. But if I need to type/write/do stuff with my hands (which is pretty much all the time I'm not asleep), it's more of a hindrance than help.

Anyhow, the stabbing morning pain is gone. But gods of work hate me.
