Uh....well its yes and no. There are AC taxis, but extremely expensive ones, mainly Uber and uber type services, definitely not affordable for me. Maybe occasionally for a really long trip.

Buses... in the last two years AC buses have been introduced, but in limited numbers, on a limited number of routes, And the fares are 3-5 times that of the non AC buses. Not very helpful for me as there are none on my most frequently travelled routes.

The best public transport is the metro network. Its limited in terms of places you can go but they are expanding it and it has lots of AC trains. Thats what I try to use the most. Cheap, fast and because its underground, even non AC trains are cool.

And as for my sanity - I question it on a daily basis.

That sounds simply horrible.

Thing is, I never really considered it to be too bad until I actually started looking at weather in other places. I would really love to live somewhere where the maximum temp is 30.

And Amph, I believe this hot and humid combination is quite prevalent in the Himalayan foothills? Terai etc?

Also with this hot a summer, there had better be a strong monsoon, or we are going to have massive droughts. Of course strong monsoon will also have floods...

We sometimes manage to get up to the much longed for 30. And then everybody grumbles about it being 'too hot for them'.

And then it rains and drops back down to 12, causing more grumbling.

UK weather is actually really good compared to other countries. I remember the humid wet heat in the rainforest in Belize - in the city it must be unbearable.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Terai doesn't have nearly as much flooding as Bangladesh and Bengal though. That's the one major difference.

I love the UK weather. It is moderate enough that anything at either end feels like a huge treat - snow or sun. And we get to have different wardrobes for each part of the year and it feels so liberating when the evenings get light but cosy when it is cold and dark in winter. I do wonder how different life would be if I lived somewhere that you could lead an outdoor life though. A few friends moved to Oz and are always posting FB pics of beaches nand surfing and stuff. I'd probably still be really lazy but have less to blame on the rain.

I don't know how people cope in the Tropics. Andorian you have my commiserations. I do chuckle at the irony of the fact that all of our uncomfortable temperature solutions involve the consumption of vast quantities of energy which only contributes further to global warming.

Believe me the sun is overrated. Some of the best days I have had has been when its been really cloudy and overcast with a brisk moist wind. We would go for long walks, visit the city lakes - stay out and have fun.

I really love your description of English evenings. Thats the type of environment I can imagine myself writing and being creative in.

Indian weather isn't all bad. Right now we are having a Kalbaishakhi - a Nor'wester storm so called because it comes from the north west. Cold high winds, heavy rain, thunder. This brings the temperature down for a couple of days. This is supposed to happen once a week or more. But we haven't had any for a month which brought on this abnormal heat.

I really wish our scientists, businessmen and policymakers would get their shit together. We get so much sun all the time. We have huge tracts of barren land in the west. With some really large scale solar plants, we could probably power the entire country and begin to shut down these polluting thermal power plants. But that is a distant dream.

We don't get roasted, we don't get frozen, and although it's incomparable to farming, my veg is loving it - beans, corn, tomatoes, peas, pumpkins etc have been getting 3-4 days of sun followed by 2 of rain. They think it's great.

The only Uk weather that bugs me is wind - which we get a lot of where I live. It's noisy and annoying and it trashes everything.

Ooooh Mr Hungover Grumpypants.

I suppose it does depend which bit you live in. I've lived in the North West and South West of England and it rained a lot but now I'm in the East/South East of the country the reduction in the amount of rain and increase in temperature is very obvious.

Actually we have no rain forecast till Wednesday Mac, at least in Essex.

That rain you hate? Couple it with the sun we've been getting these last couple of weeks and literally every plant has gone from barely starting to produce leaves to full lush green growth. The lawn needs mowing every week else it becomes a jungle. The fields are full of crops, pigs are wallowing in mud, what exactly are you farming that doesn't love water and sun?

Oh suns lovely.
We just never see it. Those lovely torrential down pours we had from jan to may?
They were so much fun, and knocked at least 1/1.5 ton to the acre off the crops yield.
Wonderful stuff rain.

Uk weather is shite

We don't keep a lot of medications in the house. Mostly it's just paracetamol, asthma inhalers and anti-histamines. However, I have a tub of alprazolam (benzodiazepine derivative) tablets that I am suppose to take 'as needed for panic'. In the six months that I have had the tub I have only used them twice (I prefer mindfulness to medication when it comes to managing anxiety). The tub has a childproof lid, is kept in a lock-box, the key to which is kept up on my bookshelf, and the lock-box is kept in my bedside drawer, one you have to lift up before pulling out to open. Despite this, I found Ripley in my bedroom yesterday afternoon surrounded by tablets. In the time it took me to turn on the tv, switch inputs, open Netflix and put on his afternoon tv show, he had gone into my room, gotten the key off my bookcase, opened my drawer, unlocked the lock-box, and unscrewed the childproof lid. Posted Image

When I asked if he had put any of the tablets in his mouth he said 'Just one. It was yucky!' So, I called 000 and picked up all the tablets I could find only to be 22 tablets short of what should have been there. Posted Image

We went to the hospital and they monitored him for several hours. He showed no signs of having ingested the tablets and he is absolutely fine. I, on the other hand, am a total wreck. I keep thinking about what could have happened. Plus, it's doing my head in trying to figure out how he managed to get to the tablets in the first place and what happened to the missing ones. Matador and I have looked everywhere and we can't find them. My ensuite door was open so I'm wondering if he put some down the floor drain (I've caught him putting cotton tips down it before). I didn't even want the tablets in the house in the first place. Gah! Posted Image

At least you know he'll be a very successful bankrobber in a couple of decades.

He is already showing promise with his pickpocketing skills. Posted Image

Pets are all good, combination locks have been bought and installed - all in all, what could have been an absolute nightmare turned out okay. We've re-evaluated all of our other childproofing as well so this shouldn't (knock on wood) happen again.

Stupid work crap means I may have to go away for up to a couple of months. Admittedly this is the worst case scenario, but it looks like I'll probably miss the wedding of some good friends in early June :D

But I hear the bridesmaids are really hot!
