I had a narrow scrape with briefly dating a woman who would gaslight me all the time in the interests of eventually isolating me. Only lasted two months, but she honestly tried to cut my ties with anyone that wasn't family by lying to me repeatedly in a way that left me mad at them and not suspicious of her.

It's like the hypothetical frog in a slowly heating pan of water. Do it slowly enough, you can boil that frog without it moving.

It's an awful and abusive tactic that's often accompanied by physical isolation - a move far away or the removal of means of transportation. Years were probably spent isolating your friend.

Hope your friend gets therapy. It's needed and extremely helpful in both a resumption of a better life and preventing a return to the abusive relationship.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Gloss paint

Gloss paint and 6 doorframes that still need it to be precise, not counting touching up skirting boards and some thin bits on the doors

Been putting it off for a good 6 months now so we made a determined effort yesterday and got one coat on 3 doors. Enthusiasm has once again departed

I swear next time we change a door it is getting straight emulsion and maybe some varnish over the top

A close friend of mine was hit by a car while on his motorcycle today. He's in the ICU with a broken arm, shattered knee, and major damage to his pelvis.

On the plus side, there was no damage to his brain or heart, and the docs say he will walk again.

Fuck today.

Broken pelvis can cause all sorts of lifelong problems if it becomes destabilised. Hope all turns out well.

Never take your pelvis foregranted. I've got really bad Pelvic Girdle Pain and can find very few movements that aren't agony. Back to living on the sofa.

Mother and her partner have finally left. My mum was relatively well behaved but I am really struggling not to give in to the hate I feel for her partner. He's such a dimwitted prick and has infuriating old fashioned sensibilities. She has the worst taste in men but would rather be with an arse than on her own. There's a storm coming on that front and I'm not sure what angle to take for the least damage.

It probably doesn't help to know, but my wife has been suffering from the exact same thing now for weeks. Some days she has trouble just moving. The OBgyn referred her to a physio person for excecises, but it largely doesn't help. It's the only part of the pregnancy that has really got her down.

Oh no. I got the exercises, ice packs, a support band and a support pillow but none have helped. The midwife and physio say I might be stuck with it to the end which at least is only 1 - 5 weeks away. I'm going to the physio again next week. Someone I met at antenatal class had it earlier on in her pregnancy and it cleared up so there is some hope for your wife yet. I'm having a scan and diabetes test tomorrow as the baby is a giant so hoping they decide I should have him early and get it over with.

Good luck with your scan! Hope all goes well. My sister in law (pregnant with twins) unfortunately got diagnosed with the pregnancy diabetes...so now she has to do all the diabetes stuff, and watch everything she need to eat. Thankfully it should go away after the birth, but right now she's suffering and annoyed by it.

That's disgusting!

I cycled to work this morning in the cold and rain. Now I'm all warm in work, but the radiators are not working which means I have to put them wet clothes on later.

Newbie at work has been trained on certain tasks (like our inbound post) and still turns to me when I get in and says 'I have no idea what I'm doing with this'.

I showed her the process last week. And she was trained on it before. Facedesk imminent...

Some people are quicker at picking up new skills or new routines than others depending on the task and learning technique. Might want to write up a step by step process for her that she can refer to when in doubt.

Having a binder with standard operating procedures usually helps.

Maybe so, but with the inbound post, it's been shown several times and it's the simplest thing. Open envelope, log post onto system, send to relevant staff member. Job done. NEWBIE Y DIS SO HARD 4 U

Yeah I was less than happy. granted, it was a 12 years old bike, with messed up gear shifts and over-rigged brakes. my parents have been telling (and offering) me know buy a new bike for a few years now. I was really stunned more than anything that someone would go through the trouble of snapping the lock for what's essentially old junk. Guess I kept it in too good a shape.

Was this in Mississauga, or Toronto? I know that in the Tdot, they do this because they basically sell them to illegal bike junkers (like the one that used to be on Queen street (was raided and closed years ago) and they will take anything, because they can take the good parts, and scrap the rest.

But yeah, it's friggin awful. Sorry you had to deal with that crap man.

Sauga, @ Hershey Sportszone. Not the first time I left it there. Just got off the phone with the cop who took down my info- he was pretty surprised (his words: "that's pretty brazen"), cuz it happened sometime b/w 5-6 PM, so not like it was dark outside or anything.

Edit: I know Tdot is not good for bikes- last week I saw a guy booking in on a stolen bike across St. Clair West, with the owner chasing and yelling... but I didn't expect that @ Hershey- like I said, it wasn't the first time I left it there.

Crappy. And especially at the sportzone, you'd figure no one would touch anything at such a well-traversed location.
