One of my friends was diagnosed with cancer. He's got maybe two years. This was a couple weeks ago.


Today, one of my friends confided in me that her dad apparently has cancer.


What the fuck, world?

Ugh. Shift finished at midnight. For whatever reason was still awake at 2. For whatever reason didn't sleep too well. Woke up at half 7 & I think thats it now. Am shattered need coffee. Like, injected straight into my veins coffee.

I thought I had just left this essay to the last minute. Apparently it was actually due yesterday.

Currently looking through the penalties for late submission and they don't seem too bad at least.

Something really petty, but a friend of mine posted a really, ugh, lets say pro atheism message on Facebook that basically said she was smarter and somehow more mentally strong for being a atheist and people you are religious are somehow more stupid/weaker. And nothing bad has ever been done in the name of atheism. Just so no thinks I'm throwing around religious privilege here, I identify as agnostic I guess, I really don't care who or what is running the universe. Anyways I politely told her of Stalin's great purges and how entire populations of people find strength through the Church (and I'm sure other places of worship) and saying those people are somehow morally weak or stupid for doing so is doing them a great disservice (specifically thinking of the African-American community). I didn't get mad or use coarse language like I usually would. Annnnnnnd she deleted my comment. Then she deleted the post. Then posted another pro-atheist post...and deleted it. Then deleted every post talking about atheism (some that great insight into moral responsibility, really interesting stuff) for like two months back.

Did I just make a person have a moral crisis? And I won't find out because she hasn't returned my text or Facebook message. DAMN!

People who promote atheism are usually significantly worse than most religious people. Theres the smug religious holier than thou types that think their belief makes them better than you but the majority of people are simply sharing a religion that they have gained strength from,usually in the form of a community. Promoting atheism usually takes the form of atheists smugly looking down on the 'backwards' followers of religion or condescendingly trying to wean them off religion claiming they dont need it.

Anyway thread- Work is a nightmare atm

that's because you don't need religion. you say it creates community, I'll say it creates great divides. you say it gives people strength, I'll say it makes people complacent and oblivious to real solutions.
tradition is all nice and dandy, mythologies are bloody awesome, but when roughly 60% of the planet's most powerful nation vote on the assumption that the world will end within their lifetimes, there's a slight problem.
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.
